    I'd like to tell you what happened is that Hong Kong has become less and less open each day due to the influence of china. They've already passed law that took away the freedom to speech and protest from us.

    The freedom in Hong Kong turns worse, that's truth. But Hong Kong is still affecting China, with idea of capitalism, freedom and Democracy.

    Depends on where you are willing to use a unstable system or not. Others release eariler, but adding more fixes later.

    If you want, you can use the not yet released potato. It's called unstable, but I believe that it is much more stable than others.

    When the PC is still sold at $1000 and above, the cost of operation system is relatively lower. Now, PC with Linux only sold for $200, it is 2/3 of the one with Win98. So we can expect that, when $100 Linux PC appear, the price of PC with Win98 is DOUBLE. If you are home users, you would choose which one?

    Someone already stated that, for Japanese and Chinese Market. Turbo-Linux is the market leader in Japan and Mainland China.

    Non-MS product is quite acceptable in Japan Market. Such as Mac and OS/2 still survive in Japan.

    The people of Blue Point said something similar to Corel. They claims that Blue Point is in beta, so they won't release the source code. They 'promise' that they 'might' release the source code in the final version.

    But it is just a promise, not legally confirm that they must release the source late.

    So, Unlike Corel. Blue Point don't want to make any correction up to now.

    Several points from their agruments which I can't stand for:

    1. They agru that the current CLE have tons of problems, they said working so hard to correct the mistakes. (CLE is majority from taiwan).

    2. They said they are working so hard, so they don't want to release it now.

    3. They said others don't understand their special situation

    Anyway, please support debian.

    You are right. The 'CLE' is the GPL complaint by taiwanese. If we are talking about distribution, two new chinese distribution from taiwan will be available very soon, powerlinux is of them, based on RedHat and CLE.

    The US government is not stupid. They know very well that the strong crypto algorithms are well known all over the world and free crypto software is widely used and can be downloaded from many non-US servers (and can also be produced by every CS major in a month).

    So why do they insist on export controls? It's plain: to slow down crypto proliferation inside the US. The major email programs still don't include seamless crypto integration.

    Even non open-source software, I found certain of them with so-called strong crypto can be downloaded from the Countries like China and Russia.

    The current policy of US government affect mostly the large-scale company like MS. So they want to take a balance, by having a new hand to open-couse.

    Even your method works, a lot of people outside US can write code, country like India can provide similiar quality with lower cost, so they don't need a US developers to ssh into a foreign machine.

    I'm so happy for the coming release of Delphi and C++ Builder for Linux. But I don't understand why Imprise take JBuilder for Linux as more important.

    If Java is really "Write Once, Run Anywhere", it is not so urgent for Java Programmer to write java under Linux.

    What linux is really lack of, is the RAD tools, especailly for in-house development. If we want the company replace all the win9x inside the Desktop, Delphi or C++ Builder should release first.

    MP3 discman can appear on the market in the next second. But wait..

    I found a VCD player which can play the MP3 file, you can buy the MP3 CD from the vendor, or play MP3 CD-R burnt from your own PC. The price is a little bit higher than a VCD player. As far as I know, no one have interest in that machine, because it is a not a famous brand, and people want portable.

    If the manufacturer want, it can make it into a portable MP3 player. But I don't think it would be successful, because CD is a media which is too big, shaking, and not portable friendly.

    Customer want something which is small and easier to be carried.

    Sony's memory stick is not too late. Please, don't tell me that CompactFlash or SmartMedia is very popular. No flash card is currently domaining the market.

    In my country, MS is doing something evil too..

    My country is having a large pc upgrade plan in all elementary and secondary schools. The ratio for students to pc would change from 1:15 to 1:2 or even more..

    Our local linux user group is try to promote Linux to those schools at the past several months.

    So, MS start a new plan. It "allows" all elementary and secondary school teachers to have a free copy of MS software (OS, Offfice, VB, etc.) to their own home, as long as those secondary schools use MS software.

    If young kids take MS software as drug, when they go to universities & colleges, they still take it.
