When investors see how great the ROI is on privacy violations. Billions and billions in illicit earnins and millions in fines--seems like a great racket.
$150M sounds like a big headline... compared to the S&P 500 as a whole, its nothing. Apple alone did $216B in revenue their last fiscal year, let alone the other 499 companies.
While I'm not familiar with the logistics of taking over someone's plan, I regularly see people selling their accounts on eBay. So you pay $200-300 for the account which has a grandfathered unlimited plan AND you have to buy a phone. That said, I used 15GB last month on my unlimited plan (which I've had for years, I did not eBay it) and I just buy last year's phone. Of course, there is talks of Verizon throttling Unlimited customers (of course there is also an article talking about FCC involvement in throttling) so buying an Unlimited plan is not without risks!
Was my description when ordering my California plates "YOU STFU". Sadly, I ordered, paid, and never picked them up LOL--in all reality probably not what I would want on my car today, but still funny that it went through.
So this works out to roughly 15 purchases per person, per year. However subtracting out those under 16 (sh*t is this going to be available to 17 year olds?!), unlicensed drivers, suspended licenses, those incarcerated, and all those (like my mother) who would have no interest in going 90mph ever, it seems that the average number of purchases per year by those who will actually use the system would have to be pretty high to reach $1.0B... and how about the costs to implement and maintain?
