  1. Blue Tooth Profiles on What Do You Want In iPhone 2.0? · · Score: 1

I bought one after the price drop. I'm seriously considering going back to my Treo 650. I'm totally flabergasted that the iphone hardware supports the 2.0 Bluetooth Standard and only the Headset profile is turned on. I totally understand what people are talking about now, when they say Apple is a control freak with their Kit.

It's almost like they haven't been able to make using Bluetooth "Apple Easy" so they just don't turn it on.

What I meant was that only Macs would have the new Power-4 processor, and that apple sell OSX to run on non-apple Intel PC's as a commerical alternative to Windows. Less control, but it sure would piss off Bill...

Au contrair... This might be what allows Apple to release a x86 OSX. You have to remember that Apple sells itself as a Premium brand. If they had a chip that trounced anything available in the Intel world, they're HW sales would be safe, no matter a x86 OSX. In fact, apple could use a less HW-integrated OSX, as a hook to get the PC masses started with Apple, so they might consider an apple pc for their next computer.

  7. Any future outside of Mainframe shops? on Talk to the IBM Linux Hackers · · Score: 2, Interesting

With high-end pc servers closing the reliability and performance gap, what advantage is their to moving to Linux for S/390?

A example, widely sited, states that great cost savings can be achieved by consolidating 100's if not 1000's of pc servers. This only works, if the servers being replaced are under extremely low work loads. Many argue that a much greater savings could be achieved in consolidating serives on existing x86 systems.

The only example that've heard that makes any sense, is using linux to extend the cabilities of Mainframe OS's (i.e. using linux, to run apache to create on-line reports, replacing printouts).

The best part is He will recieve un-ending calls to re-activate AOL for free, from their re-activation call-centers. You can ask to be put on a DNC list, but the way the records are distributed, he will continue to get calls for at least a month.

I saw a stat claiming 60% plus of sys admins have Liberal Art degrees. In other words you don't have to major in CIS or CSE to get work as a sys admin. While studing philosophy and French, I always had a technical job. Since I've been out of school, I've never had a problem getting a job and I've never resented sending my monthly student loan check. Good IT experience and a BA can take you pretty far.
