In the case of the Matrix it was the idea of sequels that sucked, not particularly the scripts. There really wasn't any more to tell.
Likewise with Star Wars Episodes 1-3. Lucas added to the drama of the Episodes 5 & 6 by having Luke be Vader's son, but doomed the prequels at the same time.
While it might have been interesting to see how Vader "betrayed and murdered" Luke's father, it was far less interesting to see Luke's father become Vader.
Well, it depends on which machines are involved in the porting. Atari 2600 games were written in assembly and due to the 2600's "roll your own" graphics system 90% of the code is I/O. Typically the "core logic" of the game could only run during vertical blanking.
"Hell, I'm sure there are *many* other directors who, for one reason or another, just managed to get lucky with a strong script, a strong cast, a good editor, a good director of photography, etc, and managed to put something together that, as a whole, exceeded their singular abilities."
Yes, Del Toro was really lucky to find a strong script for Pan's Labyrinth --- flowing from his fingertips.
It was created in the 1970s, of course there is baggage.
"They cast a line in the sand decades ago and it's time for them to give up the fight."
You do realize that Unix as we know it couldn't possibly run on the original PC, right? If there was a line in the sand it was between having a working system or a brick.
"Some people prefer a UNIX-like OS so why not give it to them? It's working for Apple isn't it?"
There are plenty of Linux distros for those people. What percentage of Mac users know or care about what kind of kernel is used?
That would really be a stupid thing for MS to do. It would simply make them another commodity dealer for UNIX.
MS's blessing and curse is all the applications that need Windows to run. It's a blessing because it has protected them from competitors, but it's a curse because it limits how they can evolve Windows.
If they really wanted to throw away their legacy advantage they'd be better off creating a brand new OS than switching from one set of legacy baggage to another.
Since being a pundit doesn't actually require any specific training or certification it's a better activity for PJ than pretending to be an expert in law.
I think US conservatives need to stop implying that liberals embrace socialism and communism. Those terms don't have any emotional impact for people under the age of 30.
Is it really true that you can't find a place where others can't overhear your conversation or is it that others can't find a place where you aren't talking?
Actually the Network Computer was quite technically feasible and not at all complex, but failed because it had no business case. It was really just an indulgence by Oracle and Sun to make them feel like they could compete with Microsoft.
"Yes, because any more buttons and the average consumer gets confused. ..."
Even my 7 year-old understands (at a very high level) what hibernate does.
You can avoid thrown chairs but nobody can outrun the reality distortion field.
You're right. Apple is much more of a Marketing company than Microsoft.
"Though who really cares about site navigation anymore?"
People who design usable websites?
"Hell, has anyone seen an ugly Mac user?"
Wow, does the reality distortion field reach that far?
Nobody ever told you the truth about Santa and the Easter Bunny either I assume.
It's usually the incompetent who feel the need to act like a jerk to distract everyone from their own performance.

Well, in the case of the Atari 2600 it was assumed that 4K was enough. Later it was extended through bank-switching cartridges.

So that's why you're giving New Line the car your parents gave you - you didn't want to be a "bottom-feeding welfare leach".

Will 3D TV support Quad Sound?

Since Ballmer isn't the face in the Borg icon, what's your point?
Since being a pundit doesn't actually require any specific training or certification it's a better activity for PJ than pretending to be an expert in law.
Well, your point seemed to be that TCP was trivial.
We don't know all the details but it seems to me that there is no reason why MS and CISCO would take a year fixing it other than a technical reason.
How comprehensive are these TCP "lab assignments" and are students allowed only RFCs as a reference?
I suspect that Hitler has been laughing in hell over all the blunders the West has made trying to avoid another him.

Texting seems to me to combine all the disadvantages of a phone call and email - immediate interruption and typing.
