Then again, it probably adds up. Like someone else said, distribution/shipping probably makes up for more than the majority of the sale price of such blanks. I wonder if anyone has any information at all as to how much of each blank goes to where. From the looks of it, manufacturers are making very little profit nowadays if we're working it out to under a half a buck for each disc.

The RIAA only gets rolayties on the special 'audio' cdrs(the only kind that work in the cd recorders by philips and stuff). The spindles you buy at staples aren't subject to the same royalties because PCs arent considered home audio recorders, YET....

We should research cheaper ways to make our own fuels if we even need too. Who says we are stuck with what nature gives us? Fusion is a good idea as well. My personal idea would be to hold it in a magnetic field in a vacuum, or in space, if creating such a vacuum on earth is counter productive. After all, that is how the sun works. Of course you'd still need a method for getting all the energy that fusion produces, but that's for another discussion...

I think it's a bit arrogant to believe that we have that much of an effect on the atmosphere. Cows and volcanoes produce more CH4 and C02 than most industry together. I also think we should colonize other planets, because eventually the earth will die, whether it's in 1,000 years or 1,000,000 or even 1,000,000,000.
