You know what's fun? Search for "GNU" or "GPL" on MSN, and compare that with Google. The GNU website is the first hit on Google, but doesn't even appear on the first page of MSN. The first MSN result is an African safari thing... The first MSN hit for "GPL" is: "InfoWorld - SCO: IBM Cannot Enforce GPL". Insane.
Microsoft uses its omnipresence to further its monopoly by doing things like this. That's why I'm fully boycotting Microsoft. My computers run only Linux, I don't visit msnbc.com, msn.com, slate.com, etc. And I won't even watch MSNBC TV. It's a lot of work, but I think it's sending a message to the people around me. Whenever someone asks why, it gives me a chance to explain all about Microsoft's unfair (even immoral) business practices.
Thanks to Loki's instructions on how to use the Windows Quake3 CD under linux, I bought the cheaper Windows version instead of Loki's linux version. I guess their helpful instructions were in the spirit of linux, but they didn't serve to make them any money in this case.
It's a shame. I really appreciated Loki's efforts.
Well, I guess there's always Tuxracer, but pretty soon you'll have to pay for that...
Mandrake is great because it's so easy to use. It's really easy to install, and it's got a bunch of utilities that simplify tasks like changing screen resolution, etc.
It's also RPM-based, which means it's nearly 100% compatible with Red Hat, the most popular distro out there.
But if you'd rather your system's activities were more transparent, I'd recommend Red Hat or Debian.
If you're more adventurous try Slackware, but that's asking for trouble...

LRP hasn't sold out. Check out http://lrp.steinkuehler.net. The latest version is only 3 months old, and comes in CD form.
Multiwave sells custom laptops here. You can even get one without an OS so you can install Linux on it and you don't have to pay for Windows!
I buy all my computer stuff from mwave. They're very reliable.

I guess now the embedded market will have to dig its 486s out of the garbage like the rest of us...

Apparently it used to draw crowds of a few hundred students.
