This is a surprise? They did the same thing YEARS ago when AT&T decided their 3G+ network was really 4G. Same ol' same ol' from two companies known for misleading their customers.

  3. THANK YOU!! on Are Widescreen Laptops Dumb? (theverge.com) · · Score: 1

I thought I was alone on this one. I can't stand these wide-screen displays on laptops or even computer monitors. The FEW times I watch movies on them, I don't care about the "distracting black bars" at the top and bottom. MOST of the time I'm on the computer, I'm doing WORK which means READING and WRITING. I prefer working top to bottom without having to constantly keep scrolling.

If I want to watch a movie or a show on the computer, I'm more than likely to plug in an HDMI cable and watch it on my 65" television, not on my 15" laptop screen.

  12. Re:Fine as-is? on VirtualBox Development At a Standstill · · Score: 1

Actually, I haven't had any issues plugging USB 2.0 devices into USB 3.0 ports on my Ubuntu system. My Windows guest systems see those devices just fine. However, plugging in a USB 3.0 device into a USB 3.0 port doesn't work; it isn't seen by the guest system at all.

Fortunately, if your system has USB 2.0 ports, you can plug a USB 3.0 device into one of those and your guest system will see it. It just can't access it as quickly as if it were USB 3.0.

All of this is on my "Trusty" system on an HP Pavilion P7-1235. Your mileage may vary.

  13. Only one REAL issue for me on VirtualBox Development At a Standstill · · Score: 1

There is no support for USB 3.0, and more and more computers are only coming with USB 3.0 ports. Those are "invisible" to guest systems running under VirtualBox. Otherwise, it pretty much does everything I need it for (running Windows under Linux so I can run TurboTax and Garmin mapping software).

The only issue I have is that a lot of Firefox extensions won't work in Seamonkey, and their authors don't seem terribly eager to support Seamonkey either. I used it in Windows, and now that I'm in the process of migrating to Linux (Ubuntu), I'm using it there, too.

Reagan also turned the United States into the largest debtor nation in the world. We recovered under Clinton, but Bush threw that all right into the toilet.
