I VNC'd to my home pc and kicked off a "network backup" of the whole 14 episodes (Thankyou Azureus!) which enables me to continue to work... tho there's something mesmorising about watching the azureus swarm map screen and the "parts" screen... is it just me that sits and stares and the progress bars??!!
Thanks for taking the time to write that. Never heard of "R-tam" "Firefly" "River" "Serenety" etc. Guess these are characters in a tv show? If I could be bothered, I'd read up about it but I'm s'posed to be errm... working and shit lol.
Back to my dreary design doc I have to write by the end of the week. Sigh.
START QUOTE Yahoo Messenger appears to be holding firm as the third most popular instant messaging client. Market researchers say Yahoo Messenger's U.S. customer base is growing faster than that of America Online.
During September, 28 million customers used America Online's AOL Instant Messaging client in the United States, according to Jupiter Media Metrix. Microsoft's MSN Messenger service had 20.7 million unique users, and Yahoo Messenger weighed in with 14.3 million.

OK, this was very late (2:0am) and I was EXTREMELY tired - DON'T mess inside pcs at 2:00am, especially when tired...
I decided to install my shiny new Zalman Super flower cooler into the kids computer as it was in the living room and quite loud. I had to remove the memory to install the cooler, which I did without a problem. When I was re-installing the memory, I noticed that the cooler fins were fouling one of the memory sticks, in fact I had to kinda bend some of the fins out the way to get the memory in. Somehow, the fact that the memory was touching the cooler fins didn't register as being significant...
I turned on, and BANG!
OMG! I realised what a VERY stupid thing I had just done...
What did I do next?
well, I had to determine what parts had blown...
Memory? CPU? Mobo? so of course, I decided to test the easiest thing first, so....
I took the memory stick out that had been touching the fins..... and installed it into my primary computer!!! (All rational thought had obviosuly looong gone!)
I turned on my main machine - nothing. OK, I thought, that memory is bad. I'll put the original memory back in my primary machine...
Turned on, NOTHING!
At this point, the full horror of what VERY VERY VERY stupid things I had just done hit me. I looked closely at the memory I blew up, and there was an actual hole burned in it and several melted tracks...
I ended up replaced two motherboards, two cpus and 4 memory sticks - I just didn't know what parts were safe and didn't want to risk blowing anything else up. I know that I definetley killed the CPU, memory and mobo on the first computer, as each had melty-burney bits on them - in fact, there was quite an impressive hole in the cpu!
The zalman ended up in the trash too...
Upside was I got two much faster systems. It was a very expensive mistake.
I always have bluetooth off, it drains battery too quickly if it's on, and I have no need for it, even stopped using the BT headsets cuz my Nokia 6230 has a very good handsfree mode built in, the loudspeaker is loud enough, and the standard mike is sensitive enough to use hands free in the car without the need of an expensive wired handsfree or one of those stupid earslug handsfree headsets. I just use Bluetooth to sync to my PC when I get home, or to send/receive contacts to my pocketPC.
Don't you ever say "where the fsk is that document I worte 3 years ago about foo" - Google desktop provides a real nice way of doing that, that is way faster and more comprehensive than the shitty MS search toy.
I stood open-mouthed in sheer disbelief as I watched an accountant check her excel spreadsheet sums on a pocket calculator. When I asked her why, she said she didn't trust the pc. I tried to point out that essentially the calculator and the PC were using the same technology (i.e. microprocessor, memory registers and software) but she wouldn't have any of it. I then asked if she'd ever found a discrepancy. She said no, and then reached for her calculator to carry on checking. I walked back to my desk totally dumbfounded.
In the UK it is mandatory that you have at least Third party damage, Fire and Theft cover (known as TPFT cover - thats a legal requirement, not determioned by the insurance companies - and right now, the car insurance industry is going through a price war with special deals for female drivers, over 50 drivers and other "low risk" drivers, who can get a really good deal. On the other hand, 17yr old male will usually have to pay more than the cost of the car each year to insure it!
I'm curious as to what you need that skype doesn't have? Seems very comprehensive a service to me.. no 911 but that's true of all VOIP services U think
In England ALL minicabs and taxis have to be licensed by the local authority, so yes anyone CAN but they have to provide the license fee and maintain certain standards
lmao too funny dude.

Hmm torrent spy lists 12 episodes... is that for real?
Cool, don't think it made it on this side of the pond (UK) I'll see if I can torrent it...

OK if you want REAL numbers, 14.3 Million for Yahoo, 28,million for AOL, 20.7 for MSN... Not too shabby eh?
OK this was for the US and from 2001. (haven't time for a more thorough search, but Google could help you if you want more recent numbers)

What's happened to the comments? This story has been up for at least an hour and there are no comments.

call forwarding:
voicemail: here but there's a charge
Distinctive ring - some of the dual voip/pots handsets do it but it looks like only to distinguish between voip and pots
not defending skype but there is more to skype than some realise

Car insurance also cover syou for theft and fire - so you still need it
