The burden of infringing user identification NOW lies with the copyright holders. They therefore now have to set up a massive trial download system that is constantly looking for INDIVIDUALS sharing their material.

Now...once they set such a system up, we get into a very interesting area, namely an intersection with the Ebay vs. Bidders Edge lawsuit where the judge in that case has essentially ruled that bandwidth is private property and service providers can lawfully exclude commercial users of the service that are consuming bandwidth without permission. Napster should be able to EXCLUDE the bandwidth hogging robots that the record companies are GOING TO HAVE TO SET UP.

Furthermore, I completely expect to see a song dicing system set up soon that distributes audio files around in chunks, with no one holding more than 1 "fair use slice" of each track.

Its going to be an interesting year.

    Dear Bonsai Kitty...

I've had my Bonsai Kitty for 6 weeks now and I couldn't be a more satisfied customer. I have had two dinner parties since receiving my "B-Kitty" and have proudly featured it as the centerpiece on my dinner table! It is just amazing how I have become the envy of all my friends and associates!

I do have a couple of Kitty-care tips to share but I did not see a spot on your website where I could post them, so I am just going to include them here so you can post them whenever you get around to creating your "Bonsai-Kitty Kare Korner" section.

    Tip 1. Unwelcome Nocturnal Meewing
This seems to happen more and more as your B-Kitty gets older and the best way I have found to deal with this little problem is to drape the Kitty-Jar with two heavy, thick moving blankets just around sundown. I'm pretty sure that the darkness calms the B-Kitty and lulls it into a peaceful night of slumber.

Tip 2. Fogging in the Kitty-Jar
This happens when you keep the ambient room temperature too low for your Bonsai-Kitty. I've been keeping the thermostat at about 97 degrees F. in the room where I keep my B-Kitty and I think the problem is pretty much licked now.

    Tip 3. Clawing Sounds.
These little noises may be cute but they can be distracting while discussing the latest DotCom failures over dinner. I solved this problem by applying a little petroleum jelly on the end of a slightly bent coat hanger and, inserting it throught the 1/4 inch air hole, apply a dab or two to the inside of the Kitty-Jar just under the Kitty's little foot pads! Works like a charm!

Thank you again Bonsai-Kitty for all of the delightful conversations that have been sparked by my new B-Kitty. My mother-in-law seemed very envious (and her birthday is just around the corner), so be expecting a new order from me soon!

Thanks again for a wonderful product!

    Sincerely,
    Alan K. McSwain

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures , shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

Doing so only embitters and dissillusions good people, because of the selfish nature of the act.

In situations that I have seen this occur, the primary motivating factor was one or more senior managers or VPs that were more interested in the advancement of their PERSONAL careers or wealth than the general welfare of the company or it's employees.

Sadly, there are only two solutions to your predicament:
    1) Identify and sit down personally with culprits and explain to them WHY what they are doing is unethical, then repeat your offer to help select and train a new manager.
    2) Vote with your feet.

Don't hold out much hope that number one will work, because the individuals involved would be forced to admit their own fallability and that's not easy for most individuals to do. If they are intelligent and ethical individuals, they will quickly come to see the error of their plan. But then again, why would they have come up with such a plan in the first place?

If you're a hardware newbie, then post hight res digital pics for us to examine and comment on.

Basically, if they turn out to be IDE drives, the investment in a pair of drives is reasonably small and experimentation is a good path. I'd use something like Ghost or Partition Magic (I know, PC stuff) to move the images to the larger drives.

Also, you are reasonable to proceed on the assumption that the original engineers kept an eye open to expansion and/or tollerating multiple HDD sources, which would invariably come in differing sizes and block/sector translation modes.

    Hope this helps.
