We are always discriminating. If you are not disable , you are not eligible for disability benifit. If you are not man and woman, you cannot 'marry'. It's as simple as that.
I am using 'Rights' loosely. Think about adopting children. Even some of the most liberal countries make exceptions regarding children.
Definitely changing law is a big deal. Whoever says it is not is lying.
Please don't overstating the case, shall we? 10 years prison terms for interracial marriage are stupid. Similarly any prison terms or fine for homosexual marriage is stupid as well.
Ok, you got nearly all the rights, but it is called civil union. Deal?
1) "Smart people tend to clump together, and if you can find such a clump, it's probably worthwhile to join it" Not important. Like minded people tend to clump together. I'd rather join with 'wise' people.
2) "Collecting donations for a charity is an admirable thing to do, but it's not hard." Stupid. Have you ever tried?
3) "Writing novels is hard. Reading novels isn't." Read bad novel is not hard. Read good novel is hard, otherwise you'd miss the good stuff of the novel.
The worst: "One of the most dangerous illusions you get from school is the idea that doing great things requires a lot of discipline. Most subjects are taught in such a boring way that it's only by discipline that you can flog yourself through them." Wrong definition of discipline. Tell a pianist, gymnast, writer, journalist, sprinter that discipline is not important! And you quote Wittgenstein! Paul, you are very bright, but not of the same calibre with Wittgenstein!
"The libraries know this, as they've already been fighting for survival in the new world of "intellectual property" and "digital rights""
Hmm... Don't library buy all their books and only one person could borrow at a time?
Oh. And profit should be corresponding to risk, too.
Sure, if there is no risk, no profit.
And value of goods would depend on how much competitions cost and how much people willing to play. And close down my business would leave my employees with no work for the short term.
"(It sort of reminds me of how, when it comes to affirmative action, hard-right Republicans suddenly become extremely egalitarian out of concern for the poor white folks who might face discrimination.)"
'Hard-right' republicans believe in personal effort -- you get the results of the hard work you do. Of course they don't like affirmative action.
Soft-right republicans certainly concerned about fairness. Again they don't like affirmative action becuase it is not fair.
(What do you mean by affirmative action? Grade inflation for minorities, or extra help for minorities? There are differences, you know.)
Well, you have to find some way to define what labor is worth. Libetarians would argue that what labor is worth is defined by what employer would pay.
Actually I am not a libetarian. I am not stupid enough to think that luck and government help pay no part in my success in life. On the other hand I am not a Marxist, thinking that all capitalists are 'evil'.
"My point is that you are NOT taking your point to it's logical conclusion- that what you REALLY want is the right to steal from your neighbor without them saying anything about it- and that you will never have"
Not many people are taking their point to its logical conclusion -- including you.
Thanks for replying. Just like to present how some christians think about their faith.
The only point I like to add is about ID movement. I don't think it is 'God of Gaps' types of arguement. It is about what could happen without personal influence. Kind of like to investigate whether a fire is caused by a arsonist.
Oh, I am sorry to hear that you abandoned christian faith. Hopefully it is not caused by the behaviors of some christians.
Now public educuation was used to sexualized protestant kids.
You know Oberon? That's cool.
Or you are like many people and learn Pascal first? That's uncool:)

It is amazing your opponents assume so much about you.
Ok, you got nearly all the rights, but it is called civil union. Deal?
But freedom of speech law ensures that these discussions are not criminal, if they don't post pictures. So should we give up freedom of speech then?
Correction. Rind et al. has suggested.

Well, one thing you do very well -- marketing :)
Maybe I should re-read the essay, but I don't think his advice is much different from yours.
No, this essay is much better.
"The libraries know this, as they've already been fighting for survival in the new world of "intellectual property" and "digital rights"" Hmm ... Don't library buy all their books and only one person could borrow at a time?
Christianity is a deragatory term too. Same thing.
And value of goods would depend on how much competitions cost and how much people willing to play. And close down my business would leave my employees with no work for the short term.
(I by no mean think Marxist are stupid)
Well, I should place Jesus about my family too. Unluckly my parents were not Christians.
Just preach what you consider right. But do it meekly -- not everyone is knowlegable. And please don't exaggerate.

I am a gutless christian.
In theory the law in Hong Kong and China are different. Both has copyright law. How tight they are enforced are a different issue.
Not many people are taking their point to its logical conclusion -- including you.
In that case, you need to do better PR :)
I read all his papers. I think he still got some unresolved issues.
I understand, sometimes Sunday School was not taught rigorously.
Even the old testament mentions this issue (Psalm 8)
Again, this is beyond proof. Or rather it is beyond reason. So without revelation one could not know.
Now the question is the possibility and probablity of revelation, which is another cans of worm.

Oh, I am sorry to hear that you abandoned christian faith. Hopefully it is not caused by the behaviors of some christians.
But, have you been paying attention to toaism? I think you have to understand and combine both to get to your truth.
There are also historic facts.
I think many christians are not selfish and as a result are amazed and thankful that God cares about us.
