    What's the difference?

Communism: technically the government runs everything. Very autocratic- usually one party. People are responsible to the government (not the other way around). No private ownership.

Socialism: democratic- government answers to people and human rights valued.. Some private ownership but for things that are intended for the good of the public there is public ownership (such as mass transit, healthcare, public education). Socialist states try to "even out" wealth by placing progressive taxes on higher earners and taxing poorer people less. The goal is to be as egalitarian as possible and for the common man to have ownership of his future. Society protected from abuses by industry through regulation. (such as dangerous materials banned from food)

Capitalism: usually democratic but under a pure capitalistic society the democratic vote is skewed because only the rich can afford to run and get their name out. Very little public ownership to none- most things, like education, transit, healthcare privatized. Little to no redistribution of wealth- human rights may take back seat to economic drivers in a pure capitalistic society. The goal is for people to earn more by striving to be richer because wealth brings about a higher quality of life. In theory people will work harder because they want more money to live a better life. Little or no regulation of industry to protect society from things like dangerous materials in food... as it is believed consumers will stop buying unsafe things by themselves.

Most western nations (including the US) are somewhere between capitalism and socialism- which is probably for the best. Most people wouldn't fare well in a purely capitalistic society; but some capitalistic tendencies are needed for a healthy economy.

"Women do not like confrontation or long hours"
Do you even hear yourself? This is the stuff you tell yourself, there's not a shred of evidence to demonstrate it. Specifically, I challenge you to find any half-decent studies showing a meaningful difference between women and men on their preference for confrontation or working long hours.

I'm too lazy to google it, and I'm not saying the study is accurate; but I did read one study a long time ago that looked into why women still earn less and earn fewer promotions held on to personal dynamics. Yeah, sexism plays a major role too- but when it comes to office politics, women were shown (in this one study) to be more likely to hold onto a grudge and remember a disagreement more than men. Women were 4 or 5 more times more likely to say that they have a boss or coworker who they consider a "foe or enemy" than men were. Typically if men had a disagreement at work, after a few weeks they'd forget about it. Women were less likely to forget what they considered a slight on them.

If this study were accurate (and I've no clue how accurate it is, its something I read a few years ago and I don't remember the details) - it could explain why in todays world where sexism is tolerated less and women are achieving more than men academically fewer women reach the top of corporations. They could be treating like enemies the very people who would promote them.

Again, I'm not saying I agree with the study, just throwing it out there as something I read- and it sounds plausible.

  8. Yea Forcing Diversity in to things at the expense of people that could be more qualified has never been a bad idea.

Well, and technically, because of the amendment saying you can't discriminate based on sex- you could probably get a lawyer to force an all woman board to accept a man onto their board too. There are a few corporations out there that have taken the stance of only hiring women to top positions- they should be forced to take a man on their board now by this same law.

A previous company I worked for had the fax number incorrect on a lot of their documentation that was handed out to clients, including fliers and business cards. The number listed as a fax number for the company was actually an "adult services" phone number. We never found out if that was done intentionally as a joke by someone or just a simple error. (the number was two digits off the correct fax number).

No client ever reported a problem and to my knowledge the mistake was never discovered... we almost never received a fax- and if we did it was from already established clients who had known the correct number already.
