  1. Toymax 10 in 1 TV Games on Atari Announces an Official Portable 2600 System · · Score: 1

Toymax has a similar item already on and off the market. Their version plays 10 activision games like pitfall, river raid, boxing, ice hokey and more. I got mine on ebay for 6 bucks. Search for 10 in 1 games and it should come up. I have one and it is fun but it's hardly a true portable and no 2 player action makes the replay value very low. -peel

  2. Apple News on Slashdot on Root as Primary Login: Why Not? · · Score: -1, Offtopic

This is a very interesting post but I can't help but feel that it would be beter suited as an 'Ask Slashdot' article. While I am glad that /. is covering a lot more Apple stuff these days, I can't help but feel the way it is being treated by the moderators is only giving Apple a bad reputation with the /. community. I think maybe a little more thought should go into how Apple stories are handled in the future. And while I'll probably get moderated down for this I am far from a troll or a karma whore so I could care less.I just wanted to voice my opinon so the three people that will read this post will have some comments to read. -peel

  3. Longhorn on A Quick Peek at Longhorn · · Score: 3, Funny

Sources inside of Microsoft were neither able to confirm nor deny rumors that Longhorn would have a built in multitasking Baked Potato Bar. They did however offer informaton regarding the new desktop themes which include Hickory Smoked, Wild West and Country Goodness. One source was quoted as saying, " Our main goal with this next OS is to get wait times down below 30 minutes for processes of 5 or more." It would seem that this is a hugh undertaking when weekends are thrown into this equation. As of this posting Microsoft plans to release Longhorn in two flavors: Smoking and Non-Smoking. -peel

  4. Wireless video on Philips Targets Wireless TV Retransmission At Home · · Score: 2, Insightful

I, as have many others, have been doing this for years. Back in the day when most households only had one VCR, there was a little gizmo called the rabbit that allowed you to watch the VCR on multiple TV's. More recently I picked up a little device from SmartHome that allows me to send audio visual signals through walls using a 2.4 Ghz signal. VIOLA! Wireless rebroadcasting of recorded shows. I have been watching taped recordings of shows as well as dvds on more than one tv in my house for some time now, I guess because there is no computer involved it's all ok. 2.4Ghz is so 1990s. -peel

  6. /. Support Forum on Making Linux Recognize Vaio Docking Stations? · · Score: 0, Offtopic

When I want news for nerds, I go to Slashdot or Memepool or even C-Net news. When I want to research a problem on my Linux box or my Mac or whatever else, I visit the appropriate forums on the web. Be it a mailing list, a newsgroup or what have you. Plain and simple. When I go to Slashdot and find it has been turned into a support forum I question a lot of things about the site as a whole. C'mon Cliff, let's not turn /. or any of the others into tech support sites. Next time something like his interests you let's direct the person to an appropriate site and not use /. as the answer just because we can. -peel

  7. Why do you need it on Filing a Domain Name Dispute? · · Score: 1
I am from St. Louis and a kdhx listener. Personally I don't understand why you need the name anyway. Anytime I need to look up a playlist I go to kdhx.org. I would never have thought to go to kdhxfm88.org nor would I be able to remember all of the extra garbage when I know the station is just kdhx or 88.1. Not that the name doesn't make sense it's just not practical. Basicaly I don't really understand why this is an issue when you own the most important domain name for the station, and probably the one that gets the most traffic anyhow. On the other hand, I bet kdhx sure got slashdotted today. -peel

  8. Star Wars II / QuickTime / Crossover plug-in on Star Wars II (Attack of the clones) Trailer · · Score: 2, Informative
I just got done watching this trailer on my linux box. Yes it was from the Star Wars site and in QuickTime. So everyone who keeps complaining about not being able to view QT on linux.. buck up and get the crossover plug-in from codeweavers, and stop complaining. I do not work for them nor do I have any affiliation with them but I work on macs everyday at work and quicktime is a part of my life. Lack of QuickTime has always been my biggest gripe about Linux. But now it is no longer. That's just my two cents.

go get crossover plug-in, watch quicktime on linux, stop complaining, smile.

So you've eliminated all of that extrea noise that keeps you up at night only to be kept awake by the brilliance of the neon light shining from your outrageously overpriced case. I hope at least it matches the neon lights under your car.

  10. Why do questions like this get posted? on Is Mac OS X Threatening Linux? · · Score: 1

I used to love slashdot, but every day it seems more and more completely stupid questions get posted. There are many many more intelligent questions out there than "Is Linux going to survive","Does sony want to lose money by fully supporting cd-rs", or "Has anyone been able to hack a chia pet". C'mon people, everyone tries to be so smart here yet the same dumb questions continue to get asked. If you like Linux then who cares about the OSX. If you like Coke then who cares about Pepsi. Just Please spare the rest of us. And Moderators...You guys need to start doing your job and filter out the garbage.
