They'd better make sure a "clean and clearly defined interface" doesn't violate one of Overture's patents or they may have another suit on their hands...
Easy to use but not perfect.

I got the iPod and have been using it with my Dell Inspiron laptop for a while now. Very easy to use interface, and the software has improved a lot since the early preview releases. I simply drag and drop entire directories to the xplay songs directory in the iPod Drive and it copies them without a hitch. Way way faster than usb too. A few annoyances are that It doesn't copy them with the directory structure. Simply copies all the mp3s into one gigantic directory. It works through WMP well with a copy to portable device option and I believe that it supports playlists through WMP (I'm not sure since I use winamp). Another annoyance is that I believe the firmware for the system is updateable through the mac clients and xplay doesn't support that.
the wavelengths of different color lasers are different. I believe blue and green are shorter than red and therefore would create much closer spaced pits and grooves on media. It would also therefore be able to read more data from the media.
We should have some major precautions in case we do find a bacterium or some other such life form when we do begin exploring mars more thoroughly. We can't have something that could destroy mankind taking root here or being used for ill purposes. IIRC, there was something about a location being set up for extraterrestrial life in a previous slashdot posting. Hopefully this spot is set up to be highly secure.
On another note, it definitely will be strong evidence for life being universal if we find living organisms on any other body outside of earth. It allows us to determine that there are other orbit zones and climates outside of our own to support life. That would increase the number of planets outside of our solar system that we would believe could support life and thus bolster the theory that we are not alone.
Anyone have more details on how exactly a Coil laser works? I always assumed lasers that can travel a decent distance and still carry enough power to do damage would required a huge amount of power. Assuming the best power source you can think of, how many shots would you be able to get out of something that would fit in the AC-130. Even if you used a generator, wouldn't it drain way faster than you could charge? It wouldn't be as useful if you only had one shot an hour or something.
lol. I worked for Procter and Gamble Global IT for the past couple years and we've been experimenting with wireless deployment at certain locations. I wonder if it would be more cost efficient to recycle our Pringles cans toward this operation. It'd be fun to see Pringle's can antennas all over the place. Nice way to recycle.
I got a hold of one of these in high school and was very impressed by its size compared to the heavy ass suitcase portables available at the time. It had great accessories like the tape backup (audio tapes, mind you) and integrated 300 bps modem (you had to connect suction cup-like things to the phone line). You had to code some BASIC to get access to the tape and floppy drives though. Hmm...think the floppy was like 200Kbytes or something in that range. Ah, the memories...
i don't think the servers could have run a windows based system for those services... The server's haven't been updated in quite some time... hehe. In any case, they were rock solid while I was there.
I don't see why that should be so impressive. It's been around for a long time now in the form of the e-bike (www.ebike.com) The one in the article seems to have basically the same specs as the older model e-bike, which I happen to have regretfully bought. It's way too heavy for practical use and the battery and motor can't handle marginally steep inclines. The battery dies very quickly if you aren't simply on flat or downward sloping hills and given its weight, should you run out of power, pedalling is very very tiring.
I know i cant be the only person here who knows that the first rule is never trust anyone at work.
The second rule is never try to make friends with people at work.
If that have that attitude, then I think you won't get very far in the workplace. The IT field is one that is very broad. A single person does
not have the abilities to perform all the functions needed to accomplish a project of any decent size. Informal knowledge networks and friends are what are needed to get tasks completed.
The reason why so many IT projects fail is because they don't understand this concept. At least within your project group, you must create the group cohesiveness that can be the strength that blasts through all obstacles. If you can build that relationship outside your own subgroup as well, even better.
I see slashdot's role as trying to bring technology information to everyone's attention. I keep up with technology but keeping track of all the different news sites can be very time consuming. I'm glad they posted this news bite since I don't regularly visit amdzone. Mobile graphics is something I'm interested in even if you aren't. Keeping in mind the massive audience that slashdot has, I think you should be a little more open to the different articles that show up. I certainly don't think certain articles are useful to me, but know they will be helpful to many others.

Well, it looks like the new server was unable to handle the load from us. It's not responding at all...

Ok. that was just uncalled for.
