I'm right there with you, have about the same commute and can't stand all the talk that goes on in the morning. I also listen to channels 80-82 and 83;), and the commercial free part is a big bonus. I have no problem shelling out $10 a month for this service since I spend more than 1 hour a day in the car.
Depends on the software they are using. Office XP Standard has prices ranging from 396-449 (quick search with google). Most PC's in school contain Word and Excel so that can add up quickly. This is assuming they are using Office XP, don't know the price of the other versions.
As far as hardware costing $800, went to Dell and they had systems starting at $599, pretty close to the software. Besides you usually upgrade hardware less than software so the hardware cost is less than the software cost over time.
OS doesn't matter as long as you have a stable enough window manager you tell them what to do and they will do it.
If Odysseus was just some dude on a ship the story would still be interesting because it is what happens that is interesting. The part of his return would be different but that is at the end.
Terminator II would be as good without the first one.
Let me get this straight because of his age he is not allowed to do something and you are saying they are not discriminating against his age. Got news for you it is discrimination. Just because there is a law doesn't negate the fact that its discrimination. And just in case you want to argue against it here's 2 definitions:
Treatment or consideration based on class or category rather than individual merit; partiality or prejudice: racial discrimination; discrimination against foreigners.
or:
unfair treatment of a person or group on the basis of prejudice
Seems like you fail too, they were profitable in the beginning but not in the end. And even though they weren't profitable in the end does not take away what happened in the beginning. Its amazing that you contradict yourself in 2 sentences. They weren't profitable from day one, and then you say it used to be profitable when it was small, wasn't that from day 1? You wouldn't happen to be a VC now would you?
Furthermore, From what I read of C#, it is not intended to run purely by VM,and that it is -always- compiled before executing to avoid Java's slowness. Just because SOME features of Java were taken (of which, Java took most from C++!), that does not mean it has the same intention.
Java took some syntax from C++, the other features are called OOP which nobody ever took from C++.
Just like they promised that XP was the most secure version of all and then they had that huge security hole? Oh yeah they know how to follow through on promises.
Considering they are talking about software no you couldn't. And the laws are being drafted as well which means you couldn't do it now even if your scenario was correct.
Could you perhaps tell me what facts of the case I got wrong?
You stated "Well that remains to be seen,.." in reference to legality of the product. It doesn't have to wait, it is not illegal in Russia where he made it.
I should have worded it differently and probably took your other statement "There's little doubt in MY mind however. " the wrong way. I get really fed up with conclusions reached by people when they don't have all the facts of the case (call it a pet peeve). Add to that lack of sleep from 3 month old baby, staying up late dealing with work and voila instant abusiveness.
So I'll retract the abusive part of my message and apologize as well, sorry about that.
Software is what I produce after getting up much too early every morning and coming home much too late at night. It involves an often entertaining but really quite exhausting effort on my part, five to seven days per week. When you make an illegal copy, what you are stealing is my time. I live in a country whose economy does not revolve around physical goods. The US economy became services-oriented a long time ago, and I expect fair compensation for my services as an engineer.
If they are stealing your time, then how much time do you equate to your PRODUCT? If you equate more than 0 time to each one then at some point the sales of your PRODUCT will total the time you put into it. At that point anyone copying it won't be stealing any time.
Your argument is flawed, you can't steal time from something that has been done in the past. Once that moment has passed it is gone.
No, what I'm referring to the model that plumbers, auto mechanics, and doctors have followed for years: payment for services rendered. Nothing disappears from a warehouse if I refuse to pay my plumber.
Again flawed argument, so in this model if one person pays for your PRODUCT then you have been paid for services rendered and don't require payment from anyone else.
The reason I bolded PRODUCT was because that is what you are supplying, not a service.
Well that remains to be seen, so perhaps I should have said the product whose legality is in question. There's little doubt in MY mind however.
Don't you mean "There's doubt in YOUR little mind?" Since you have no first hand knowledge of any of this and can't even get the story right from whats been printed I'd have to say your OPINION of the situation counts for nothing.
I use Mac OS X on my Mac and I love it. I think it is the best Unix-based OS for my needs.
Want to qualify that? Why is it the best Unix-based OS? If its just based on the rock solid command line goodness underneath I would say that all unices would meet your needs.

They don't believe that strongly in the freedom of software, if they did they wouldn't be whining about name control.

The laws for driving are in a little pamphlet called "Driver Handbook", you might have heard of it if you've ever taken a drivers license test.
Also points out why people need to understand logic as well since his problem wasn't syntax or structure related ;)
Yeah, but its the hair on their backs and that grows much faster I'm told ;)
If you can't take a macine down without losing a million dollars I'd argue that your architecture is flawed. Did your mommy help you design it?
Speaking about mommies I hope she didn't help you proofread while you were at your macine.

The speaking english is a big part, kind of hard to communicate without a common language.
There are a lot of serious issues to consider, but you're not going to get much in the way of answers on slashdot.
Pretty much sums up your post as well, nothing useful at all.
It is eat your cake and have it too. Every time you eat a piece of cake you have it just before you eat it.
He is, they are called movie goers. If he blows this one he can kiss the third one goodbye.

1-5: Lucas sucks at writing/directing
3) mostly used in the enterprise in some niche areas.
;)
4) ever hear of a program called crash bandicoot? written in lisp just as other games are. I'd call that alive.
5) isn't delphi a revamped version of pascal? kind of like pascal++
Just because you don't know how/where they are used doesn't make them dead.

Don't take this last potshot the wrong way.
If my opinion doesn't matter why did you reply?

They apparently have several: http://www.compaq.com/products/notebooks/index.htm l
Only one with a 15" display & 1GB RAM and that unit is probably thicker than a TiBook.
Since you specified wanting 1GB RAM there would only be one and not several.
Well that remains to be seen, so perhaps I should have said the product whose legality is in question. There's little doubt in MY mind however.
