    ( I don't drink coke or Pepsi - I drink Mt Dew, Mello Yello or Sun Drop (A&W's citrus flavoured caffinated pop)

    People driving while texting/updating their FB/watching movies etc crash and are injured or killed and therefore not driving anymore, therefore less drivers and less traffic.
    Takes a while though, and not reccomended to be on the road in the meantime'

    On a strictly physics basis Hawaii would be the best State. Closer to the equator to get maximum boost from the spin of the earth, and you can get some altitude if you use one of the mountains. Less hurricanes too.

    The US A military tends to mostly kill non-US civilians. (Although many of them are shooting at the US military, so I think those should be fair game)
      One answer to that is to not have the US military in foreign countries , and at least Obama is doing that...

    Not sure if anyone on slashdot would get the reference to the Legend of Maui fishing up The North Island (his canoe is the South Island)

    But anyway I have seen a documentar (on either H2 or the Science channel)y that said that the islands of NZ are just the visible part of a sunken coninent called Zealandia, which explained how some of the unique native fauna like tuatara got there.

    While they killed them off at 30 in the movie (Michael York) of Logans Run it was 21 in the book.

    I remember going to that film in Napier, and there was a power failure half way through. We were sitting outside for at least half an hour. (I was chatting to my chemistry 101 lexcturer about Sci_Fi

    Still the movie wasn't as bad as the TV series that was made a couple years later which included a solar powered hovercraft, and an android called Rem (Donald Moffat)

    Which is why a VTOL rocket works better in lower gravity.

    It would be useful on a planet with say 1/6th the gravity of earth.

    Alternatively maybe we can get Congress to lower the force of gravity. (There is probably more chance that would get passed through the house than say Immigration Reform, gun control, or a balanced budget.)

    pedestrian- and bike-friendly neighborhoods.would require pedestrian- and bike-friendly weather which is not the case in many areas of this continent.
    (Although some of the effects of weather can be offset by building tunnels and covered walk/bike ways, the costs would be astronomical.

    (and many people live further from their workplace than would be possible to effectively use human powered transport.     I don't see the point of a remotely piloted passenger plane.

    UAFVG's are useful in military situations, but not for civilian use.

    (OK maybe remotely piloted C130 for chasing hurricanes, or other dangerous weather, or dropping supplies to Antarctic stations.)
