Even if they did, it wouldn't be hard to get around. Make a one off email (or use your work email if you have one) and make an account with that. Plenty of people have the same name and I'm sure a networking site like Facebook with such a massive population wouldn't notice (if one account per individual is a rule).

I'm going to go out on a whim and assume TLC didn't write their own songs (co-wrote a few tracks, maybe), like a whole lot of other pop artists in the past X years. If that is the case, and assuming that every aspect of their brand is manufactured by whichever record company they were signed to, then do they really deserve much more money for having their vocal talents and the attitude to go with it? Given the record company would have fronted the cash for the recording time, song writers, producers, promotion, video clips, etc. When it comes down to it, you can bitch about record companies all you want but sometimes (like in TLC's case) their share is justified... sorta.

Also, TLC's career spanned a decade. They would've made plenty of cash.

Sorry, but this is no different to a judge ordering you to open a safe that is inaccessible due to a combination lock so you tell the judge, "Sorry, I honestly cannot remember the combination. However, the numbers for the combination were written in the manual which came with the lock. The three numbers range anywhere from 0-40. Good luck!"

  14. Re:My guess on Eye of Tiger Composer Sues Gingrich To Stop Campaign From Using Song · · Score: 1

This isn't just a question of being able to copy other peoples ideas, but rather that media should be distributed freely in any way, shape or form without consequence after 14 years. In this case Gingrich would be able to use the song and there'd be no case for the composers as it was produced in the 80's. At the same time, he could record his own version of it and not have to pay royalties to the composers.

Personally, I don't know where I stand on the issue. I certainly don't want anything like this happening again though.

Of course it's not random. If it was then there's very good chance you have a bunch of people chosen who either don't care for it, don't even know how to use the internet let a lone post a "tweet", or would completely abuse the power. Not to mention it would be heavily moderated so that nothing even remotely offensive gets posted.

  19. Re:Boycotts on Techrights Recommends An Apple Boycott · · Score: 1

That raises another point: for a number of industries, Apple products have become the norm. Take the design industry and music industry for example, they rely on Apple products because they seem to believe whatever programs they are using work better on Macs, when that just simply can't be the case (especially when the industry standard programs are available on PCs as well). I suppose as far as the design industry goes it's understandable as Apple products are extremely well designed aesthetically and (surprise, surprise) designers would probably care about that.

But it's this kind of ethos that Apple have some how managed to cement into entire industries, and in some cases now in to schools and universities (for example, at my university you won't find a PC in a huge majority of computer labs), that is probably having the greatest affect on the public's need/want for Apple products.

Perhaps if you really want people to boycott Apple then the best place to start would be educating these industries and institutions.

  20. Re:Boycotts on Techrights Recommends An Apple Boycott · · Score: 3, Insightful

Sorry, but I know a number of people who have grown up using PCs (some of them even Apple haters), then moved on to a Mac for whatever reason (certain program they needed was only available through Apple, etc.) and now won't go back simply because their Macbook Pro makes that much more sense to them.

So really, I'm sure that in a lot of cases people aren't using Apple products just because they look cool, hipster or no.

  21. Re:Boycotts on Techrights Recommends An Apple Boycott · · Score: 1

They're certainly not effective when it's just a single tech website suggesting the boycott. I'd put money on it that there's zero chance of the message reaching the only demographic that matters: the millions upon millions of Apple users around the world who, for the most part, probably don't care enough about the tech world to take a stance (That's not to suggest that Apple users aren't tech savvy by any means, just that the Apple demographic stretches across many walks of life).

  24. Re:Blame the victim on Judge Orders Man To Delete Revenge Blog · · Score: 2, Insightful

Sexuality is a touchy (and usually extremely private) subject and not one most people are comfortable talking about. Regardless of whether the man is publishing truths or not shouldn't matter, the woman has a right to her privacy and if the male in question wants to be so immature in the way he deals with his emotions then he deserves whatever reasonable punishment that gets thrown his way.
