At least the company is in the hands of Chinese employees and executives. Having read the itnews.com.au article, I believe that the company is as private as the company I left a few years ago. My former company was not listed in the stock market because it was wholly-owned by one or two Japanese executives.
I did not know much about Air America and I later checked the wikipedia article. Wow, it was owned by CIA. I am pretty sure that Huawei is different as it is now #2 company (I forget in which field) and its future is as bright as Apple's future or Google's future. Although some of its employees are foreign, Huawei lift 100,000 employees out of poverty by giving them jobs with perks and benefits. Plus even its CEO admired the American capitalism and have read books on it.
I thought Ren Zhengfei was laid off as I have heard of military force reduction in the earlier years. I didn't know that "retired" is the official word for Ren Zhengfei who looked very younger than I thought. I later checked the wikipedia article and, yeah, you were right about his retirement. Didn't know that he joined the communist party. I'm happy that he joined it as the party was used to "not allowing capitalists to join."
When it comes to capitalism, I can vouch for it. When I was a toddler, each family can have only one blanket, but the winter was brutally cold in Northern China and the blanket was thin. Even my early family friend borrowed our blanket and never returned it. Nowadays, you can buy as many blankets as you want. That's capitalism.
I'd rather not to see rare earth being exported so much to other countries because of environmental pollution. I wouldn't want environmental pollution in my hometown. Communism was already dead over three decades ago. Communism requires iron-bowl system -- a cradle-to-grave support system. Now, it is harsh job survival environment, either you keep working or you will be fired for not doing a job -- not even vacation days can be used up (don't try to use up vacation days in China on job).
The wages vary geographically. In villages, the wages are low, but people are still happy cause they have low-cost living expenses too (they don't pay taxes too). In major cities, food and living costs are expensive. For example, beef in Shanghai is expensive as beef in the United States. I don't worry about bubbles in China as the Chinese people and the Chinese government are handling bubbles.
economy wasn't subsized in some ways. The government did not tax people, just tax rich people and corporations (low budget compared to US's budget). The United States did not give China Market Economy Status. Without that status, the United States continue to measure goods in China by looking at prices in other countries instead of China. That's how they declared goods as dumping.
Inflation not just hit all cities in china, but also villages too. From my visit to my hometown, I noticed that one kilogram of eggs, last year, was 4 yuans. Now it is 10 yuans. When my wife was in high school, an egg roll snack would cost 2.5 yuans. Now it is 6 yuans. I fully support Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu as she is looking out for the interests of Chinese citizens. I am proud of China for what it is - capitalistic, energetic, and full of opportunities.
I understand that any Chinese researcher would be angry if the Nature journal tell him or her not to include the political map of China. This is amounting to censorship of research articles. If she say that she refused to change the map, then the Nature journal should respect her choice. I do not want to see any researcher being subjected to restrictions on academic freedom or speech freedom. This situation reminds me of Galileo who had to face a jury of religious leaders over his publication. Researchers should write articles, not caring about what other people think. That is academic freedom.
Also show me evidence of governmental espionage through Huawei's products. I kept hearing accusations against Huawei for years due to prejudice.
2000: I accuse you for stealing!
2001: I accuse you because of the earlier accusations in 2000!
2002: I accuse you because of what the other guys say in 2001!
2003: I accuse you because you are... um a thief!
There is no stealing at all. Just a total paranoa.
Huawei was founded by a former Chinese military engineer, who was LAID OFF by the Chinese military. Since then, it is a PRIVATE company. Otherwise, how do you explain capitalism in China (or high economic growth)?
Just for one specific example, a drunk guy ran over and killed a couple of women late at night. When the police showed up, he said he was the mayor's son so what were they going to do about it. Fortunately, someone got it on video and it caused the people to protest and force him to go to jail (and for his father to apologize). But that guy's attitude is pervasive in the Chinese government's upper levels, with political power tending to pass from one generation to the next and having the ability to do almost anything and get away with it.
You are talking about Li Qiming, a drunk guy, who ran over or hit two women. One of them died and the other survived. Li Qiming is the son of a high-ranking police officer, not a mayor. That guy's attitude is not pervasive in the Chinese government's upper levels as President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabo are demanding that the Chinese government fights against corruption.
Moreover, the Chinese government required every official to state the locations of their relatives due to the fact that many corrupted officials fled to the United States, where they moved their wives and children earlier. If you want governmental transparancy, you can visit a chinese website where top leaders' biographies are revealed.
Just because we don't like corrupted officials doesn't mean we don't like the Chinese government.
Please stop bashing China. Just because this is China doesn't mean that either China or Chinese researchers don't believe the rest of the world's measurements. It is good news as Chinese researchers are joining the rest of scientific community in defending the Earth. I read the wiki article mentioned by you and it doesn't say that it is confirmed that Apophis is not going to hit the Earth. It just says that there is a possibility of the Apophis' impact. It says that statistics calculated for the apophis's impact is not reliable due to some unknown variables. I don't know how researchers calculate probabilities of asteriod's impact. So, hip hooray for Chinese researchers boosting the chance of Mankind's survival!

What is the sound of 1.33 billion people laughing their little yellow asses off?
Nope, it is 1.4 billion people laughing off. Perhaps you need to catch up with news fast.

that the common, thinking people there feel much the same when they witness their own government's bullshit.
For god's sake, Chinese people are happier with their own government than what American people are feeling with their government!
It's basically been confirmed that it's not going to hit the Earth: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/99942_Apophis#History_of_impact_estimates, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Apophis_pass_zoom.svg, but then this is China we're talking about so they probably don't believe the rest of the world's measurements.
