Am I the only one who sees a "pay-as-you-go-model" like this as a result of the new privacy restrictions being imposed by the EU and state of California? The model of this story is a tax, but if advertisers can't find their targets and start withdrawing ads, does anyone else think sites like FB or Instagram might use something like this? Just a question.
The real question he's asking is "With all of the technology at our disposal, why haven't we solved society's problems?".
The answer is simple; society is run by human beings and human beings are inherently flawed beings. No amount of technology, communication, luxury or education can save us. There's going to be people that are going to try to control, dominate or otherwise harm other people, and this is never going to change.
Technology and done MUCH to improve the world; look at what organ transplants and other medical breakthroughs have done. But we'll never have a utopia despite our best efforts. We need to try for such a goal but need to accept that it will never happen.
It's the pursuit and effort that counts. Incidentally, the world HAS gotten better, hasn't it? More people can choose their own destinies than previously before; racial prejudice is on the run even though it's sadly still with us. Societies are generally becoming more free; many items that were luxuries are becoming items shared by more people around the world. We obviously have problems like war, greed, limited health care, unequal education, and other problems, but can you say we haven't made great strides in the past 100 years?
Since this was a Scorsese film, I waited in line to see it. After about 20 minutes into it I was shocked at how awful it was. If the money was financed illegally, can I file a class action law suit for the movie sucking so badly?
Agree with points 4 and 5. The "Excalibur" style Lightsaber just looked plain silly. Lightsabers are already cool. Adding anything to them like that just makes them look stupid and those side beams were functionally useless.
Users at companies just want to know how to use their computers so they can finish work by 5. A little bit of background training is okay, but if you get into the whole proprietary/FOSS stuff you'll get a lot of yawns and dogs-turning-their-heads-45-degree type looks.
Think about it - if my name is Joe Smith, why would I create a website www.joesmith.com and then slander myself in my own name? Wouldn't a potential client see enough ripping of myself on www.joesmith.com,.net,.org, and see the connection? There may be one or two people out there that would fall for it, but most people are tech savvy enough to see through it.
It sounds like they've been through the ringer with this ex-husband, but it seems like it wouldn't have that big of an effect, particularly once the woman's actual work was seen for what it truly is. My guess is only a few people would follow the lie. Just a guess.
Assange is a loser. He got lucky with ONE big scoop and he acts like he's hot sh--. He banged a woman in her sleep? Somebody put this loser out of our misery.
This is too hilarious. Anonymous types sit on a high horse claiming to be not only elite hackers, but smarter than the rest of us. The fact that many of them fell for an FBI trojan is too funny. The group as a whole has had a 'holier than thou' attitude and they've appointed themselves as judge, jury and hacksecutioner, so I find it too funny that they got hacked.
When they finally get caught and eventually arrested I'll bet they'll cry in front of a judge when they face serious criminal charges. Can't wait. Maybe someone could make a crying Guy Fawkes mask?
I hate to say this, but it seems like a crock. All we've seen for the past 10-15 years are all types of technologies and methods that reduce so-called greenhouse gasses. Look at the Three Gorges Dam in China, all of the solar power, the fact that virtually all cars use 4 cylinder engines, etc. We've planted more trees, created hybrids, etc. How can emissions be beyond expectations? They should be getting lower and lower.
Something is amiss here.
"In an unrelated note, Silicon Valley tech companies announced relocating their data centers for Texas for an undisclosed reason".

You know, there's a poop emoji - who tracks you if you post that? Toilet paper companies? Laxatives? Taco Bell?
Very clever choice of words. Make sure to ignore the "M" or "I" word, lump everyone together.
Best comment on this thread!

Shouldn't the newspaper live to its "no gun" ideals and live by example? They should just protect themselves with kindness and understanding.

Skip TNG, it sucks and most people will find it cheesy (and they'd be right). Try Wrath of Khan. Seriously.
Double that! I can't believe this got on the main page.
Seriously -- headphones??? This is a \. question? My, how the mighty have fallen!

Pure and simple. They're just idiots.
