I would love to use an IDE, a great editor with debugging eatures like stack trace and step by step variable windows. that would be great. I use ultraedit for coding php, Ive use ZendIDE a java based IDE, dont like it, the editor just isnt as powerull as ultraedit.
Im running XP in my laptop, its alot faster then 2000 was. sure not as ast as win 98 or win 95, but it has ALOT more features. If I didnt feel those features were worth it, I wouldnt have installed it. there was no gun to my head.
Thanks or coming out Slashdot. MS has been blocking non ms browsers from their sites for months. I can remember almost 6 months ago going to one of microsofts developer pages regarding javascript, I had to have a login, so I entered all my user info, press submit, boomb, they say, exit opera and use IE. end of story.
lets get a little more relevant and timeley news here boys.
have you accually tried cleartype ? it made my fonts all fuzzy and hard to read, gave me a headache. I turned them off and all the fonts are crisp and clear.
I use OpenBSD on my server, its stable and server feature ritch. it is not and neither is linux, a desktop replacement.
ultraedit
securecrt
opera
IE
MS Office
are all either not supported or not as current. (and for all those dorks, yes securecrt uses ssh, unix ssh client is the same as cesurecrt, same as ultraedit is the same as notepad)
what some of these companies dont understand is that people dont want to switch apps, if they are used to MS Office, they dont want to switch to star office. until WINE gets in gear with better support, linux will NEVER replace windows as a workplace. even then it probably wont.
I have XP Professional installed, I have to say its accually their nicesest OS yet. easy to use, feature rich (built in firewall), and fast too. Its alot faster then win 2000.
I use OpenBSD for my server, its just not practical for a workstation. Windows XP is much better suited for that.
I bought a laptop, gateway 2150 from costco 6 months ago, the battery went after 3 months, they replaced it no hassle. now windows XP comes along and the sound card, sb esonique pci 64, doesnt work, gateway sais that my laptop is quote:
Slashdot uses MySQL, anyone using MySQL and a large db with lots of traffic knows MySQL is not suited for the task, thats why slashdot goes down. Im sure NYSE knows about this and will choose either oracle or another larger db on a different OS. when NYSE sais they are switching to linux they dont say what parts they are switching, all or some.
a normal car emits the emissions into the enviroment, this 'contained' unit stores them (presumably), it takes exause and scrubs the oxogen out of it and adds more to replentish it, presumably storing the emissions, not reducing them, just storing them to be later disposed of. this is a better system then our current system, but it wasnt even revelutionary in 1996, the system creates high heat, cool air is better, hot air is worse, less power with hot air. it also for your 2 ton truck, would have to be a little faster at doing its job. and btw as some people would say 'this would put the oil companies out of business' why ? it doesnt reduce fuel consumption, accually to get the same horsepower you would have to increase fuel consumption. they would love this.
note to slashdot: get some current articles, start screening the articles, find some intelligent trolls.
"The cost of the wing is around $1 million, compared with more than that just to launch a satellite"
this is where cnn shoots them self in the foot. the plain cost $1M and it cost just over $1M to launch a sat into space. the satalite itself would cost the same to produce, its just the launching cost thats cheaper, and not much cheaper though right? am I reading this wrong? come on cnn get some real reporting skills, how much more does it cost?

1st place $347us/QphH => Linux
2nd place $161us/QphH => Windows 2000
I am a *nix fan, I love my BSD (OpenBSD and FreeBSD) but this does nothing to dispel yesterdays slasdhot article from microfost on how windows is cheaper Total Cost of Ownership....

Sun buys cobalt so that the company could have a low end server, cobalt runs on linux, cobalt has a web interface, why not just add a gnome interface too? Sun has repeatedly stated that it promotes linux, I dont see why this is a big deal. Its obvious that Sun would do this. Chris Lee Mediawaveonline.com

accually I have to correct you on one thing. I have windows xp and windows 2k installed on two laptops. BOTH can be setup to use NTFS or FAT32.
windows 2000 on install asks you if you want NTFS or FAT32
windows XP on install asks you if you want NTS or FAT32
I also on another note, I find winXP alot faster then win2k
