CBC Radio had a short clip on how the Toronto Library had a copy, once it learned of the bounty on it they moved the copy to their "special collections" section where you can read the magazine but not check it out. Aparently they were contacted by Intel about selling it and the Toronto Library refused.
I use DOS apps on a regular basis for work, many people cant just stop using apps because their outdated. If its all thats avalible, then you dont really have much choice. I dont have the money to pay someone out of pocket to rewrite software into 32bit when the exsisting 16bit software works 100%.
Im not a big fan of lack of 16bit support in XP-64, dual boot its going to be I guess, its kinda lame though.
I like to listen to CBC Radio, it gives me the news every 30min, plus insightfull comentary. Its really a great station, plus its public owned.
Radio isnt all bad, there just are some things radio can do that mp3 never will be able to. Music may be done better by mp3 players, but the news and comentary never will... leave that to radio.
I agree, OpenOffice saves MSOffice files so badly I dont even know why its an option. I tried OpenOffice for a few weeks, I couldnt beleive the MSOffice files it was producing, formatting was completly out to lunch, often the file wasnt even legible in MSOffice.
I prefer OSS if avalible and it works, but Im not willing to use it if it doesnt work...
I use Firefox, Thunderbird and Sunbird daily, love em. they work, very well. OpenOffice, doesnt.
I live in Kamloops, BC and pay $30 CDN for 1.5M down and could pay slightly more if I wanted faster but I dont really need it. Ive got four computers on my network and im happy with the speed. Ive allways found it amazing how much people in the USA have to pay for DSL, its dirt cheap hear and has faily good penetration, hell even Clearwater BC has highspeed, and theyve only got a population of 4,400 ! thats right, thats not a big town by any means, 4,400.
>Don't like your job? Leave... there are 500 people that want to be in your place, anyway!
Thats the problem, when there are 500 people applying for a job, it makes it kinda scary to leave your job and enter a lineup of 500 people for a new job.
you been living under a rock ? not all adware gets installed by the unser, alot gets installed through exploits in IE and windows, WITHOUT the users permission.
Nav is supposed to detect adware, but It has never ever caught a thing for me. I used to run NAV and ad-aware, then new NAV started supporting adware detection, so I dropped ad-aware. I ran NAV alone for about three months, it was awefull, the computer was overgrown with crap. installed ad-aware, cleaned the system up. been running ad-aware (ad-watch) and NAV together ever since and been very happy.
only thing is it would be nice to see ad-watch download the updates itself. kinda dumb that I gota open ad-aware up every onceinawhile and check for new updates on my own.
Weidel said in most cases, QuickTransit allows translated applications to run faster on new hardware than it did on the original platform, thanks to the speed of today's machines compared with those made a decade ago.
I would hope so... a decade ago, 1994, we would have been using 486dx66's.
They keep saying emulators are slow, but Ive used a few emu before and none Ive seen running on my intel 3.2HT run at the speed of a 486DX66.
pretty much every emu on the market is gona be running faster on new hardware then on decade old hardware, I dont think its even an issue worth pointing out. if thats what they mean by no performance hit... this is gona be some useless crap.
I dorms we had a fullsized cutout of Shaq inthe window. Wemust have got 8 or 9 complaint reports from the school saying some creepyguy was staring at girls at night through the window. so I have to say, cut outs work.
I use it everyday, work forces us to use ICQ and friends love MSN so I use both through trillian, works great.

does anyone look at prices vs looking at speed anymore? or did that go out of fasion during the IPO days?
AMD MP 1800+ (1.5Ghz) = $450cdn x 2
Tytan 760MP $660cdn
Total $1560cdn
Intel Tualatin 1.2Ghz = $360cdn x 2
SuperMicro Dual-P3 Tual. = $350cdn
Total $1070cdn
sure the AMD is faster, but it aint cheaper, I wouldnt consider it as releiable either, this is brand new technology here, intel is proven, I dont trust it.
cheap dual-processor desktops? what the hell are they talking about? cheap? intel P3 is cheaper. are they comparing it to intel P4 xeon? give me a frigg'n break, who do you know has a desktop computer they consider 'cheap' that is running dual P4 xeon's ! the xeon is the most over prices crap made to date, shortly followed by AMD MP.
install a mod chip, either neo4 now or messiah when it comes out. this will allow region free dvd, direct boot cdr (psx and ps2) and easy single swap dvdr (ps2). this will also allow you to write apps for the ps2 and burn them on cdr/dvdr and boot em, dont worry about sony copyprotection anymore:)
accually there are publicly avalible scripts that modify the system files to make them beleive they have allready dialed out, and there will be no need to dial out again, ever.
now this means that your not going to be getting your guide anymore, unless your using directtv tivo because the guide comes right in the data stream. directtv tivo only dials out to get system upgrades, not the guide. so disable dialing out.
ok. so the mechanical heart is cool. but what about the wireless battery? either this is a missprint or something even cooler, a battery with a wireless transmitter small enough to be worn on the hip, yet transmit enough 'power' to power a heart? now thats cool.
"AbioCor is entirely self-contained, save for a wireless battery pack"
Clearwater, BC, Canada has a population of 5000 and theyve got ADSL ... Thats about as small as they get. and they got it.
I highly doubt that.

This was reported on CBC Radio last week.

If I was IBM and paying an employee $550/h and this employee was plug'ing Dell insted of IBM, Id be kinda insulted.

here in kamloops, bc, canada our rates are
$39cdn/m for cable 1-2Mbps down, 512Kbps up
$39cdn/m for dsl 1.5Mbps down, 512Kbps up
$39cdn/m for wireless 1.5Mbps down, 1.5Mbps up
no waiting list for either, hell they give you irst two months free and a free webcam. no contract.
thats $25usa/m for your choice. why so expensive in the usa ?

it depends on what the site caters to. slashdot will have a higher lin artio then microsoft.com will.
averaging 30 e-commerce sites I maintain
win 82.5%
mac 4.8%
lin 12.6%
now e-commerce sites may have a higher win ratio then linux, I dont know or care. just my 2 cents.

Accually the Tivo has a hack so you can add a ne2000 ethernet card to the tivo or directtv tvio.
http://www.9thtee.com/tivonet.htm
dont worry about version 2.5 rom, upload a hack 2.5 rom and your away.
not near as nice as replayTV's but it works, allowing you to download the recorded movies from the tvio to your computer.
