  1. We won't need record companies... on Philips Says Compact Discs Can't be Copyprotected · · Score: 1

before long anymore... Just think. More and more people are getting online.

All a band or artist has to do, is make the music, put it online as mp3 or something similar, ask for up to half a euro (yes I'm from europe) as payment, then give someone the right to download and store it.

I know I'd be buying lotsa songs... AND I'd know that the right people were getting the money.

  2. I'd rather live in a cave... on Microchips For Human Implantation As ID · · Score: 1

than be tagged... The first bastard that tries to tag me like this gets shot.

If the goverment (I'm Dutch btw) ever tries to force this or tries to force people into this by withholding "priviliges", the time will have come for a *#^%&*(%$% revolution...

    So there :-P

Okay... granted I know hardly anything about this system. (nor do I want to know until it hits the streets)

But wouldn't you just copy the content to a PC harddisk, pop the protection bit there and copy it back? Problem solved? I mean, it said that it would still allow copying of protected files between people, so I'm assuming here you can copy it via the 'net and as such onto your harddisk...

  4. The BAEN FREE LIBRARY on Publishers vs. Libraries · · Score: 1
Not all publishers feel this way... as posted several times by, amongst others, Hemos in this slashdot post.

Also you might want to check out the Baen Free Library and read through the introductionary letter by Eric Flint, First Librarian ;-)

It's a bit long, but has excellent arguments in favor of free books online.

Offcourse, there's also the Gutenberg Project, but I don't really like that one myself...

Yupyup... very possible... in fact in The Netherlands, the so-called GigaPort project is already doing trials with 100MBit/Sec optical connections to the home for a mere cost price of around 20-30 guilders.. That works out to be roughly 15-20 US dollars.. I want one!! ;-)
