hopefully the lack of linux apps will be more solved by things like kylix from borland->inprise->borlandagain

    Gundam 0080
    Gundam 0083
    Zeta Gundam
Gundam ZZ (although that one does push our limits)

There is also a whole line of shojo(girl's) manga which is by far the most popular single manga genre (i cite manga because most anime is based on manga)
On the Anime side... look at Miyazaki whihc is sometimes violent but so family oriented that Disney is producing it in english
Yes there is ALOT of porno anime... but there is alot of Porno period... look at the amount of porno that's available in the us... just in japan there are a grater abundance of anime and manga for all subject matter than there is in the us.. so there will of course be a greater amount of adult anime and manga

2nd came the 70's stuff i remember raideen and mazinga z in particular but others were more particular for speed racer
then i remember star blazers in the early 80's shortly follwed by robotech and transformers(you could also count some of the other short lived less memorable ones such as orbots)
by this point many people knew the shows but there was still not much of a consideration of "japanese anime"
it wasn't untill the late 80's early 90's when titles such as bubble gum crisis, akira, kimagure orange road and others became easily accessable in english that anime became an entity of it's own in the us
