I also lived there-- in fact, just moved from there after 25 years. Another problem facing this chunnel is Nome is still cut off. You can only get to Nome via boat, plane, and dog sled.
Let's get real. If Russia could find the cash to do this, I don't think the State of Alaska would be paying for a rail from Denali or Fairbanks to Nome. Sure there is some use for it, but the cost is waaaay too prohibitive. There aren't enough people up there. The population of Alaska is still quite a bit less than a million souls. That's even counting the soulless Gov. Tony Knowles and his moronic Environmentaldisseds.
If it could work, I'd love for it to be put in. I love Alaska, I'm just happy to not be shovelling snow this year! Guess I'll be mowing my lawn this weekend or next, though.
These soccer mom's who can't drive and don't know how to use mirrors are a menace. So are soccer dads.
There is some protection in big rigs, but there is always going to be something bigger on the road-- hello, the eighteen-wheelers? Just say no to Big Motor Companies, and to Big Oil, let's try to conserve a little fuel here.
My 81 DeLorean is extremely safe. And Sporty. And durable-- hello, it's an 81! And it drives like an 01.
My biggest concern is these maroons in big trucks who don't look or signal before changing lanes.
I drive defensively, always watching my mirrors, always watching for blinkers. I was the same way on my a cycle, but now I've got my ultimate vehicle.
Yeah, what about those early games that let us see the future-- like Captain Comic (the first one I ever felt guilty and registered), and that funny kid who built his rocket out of a can of beans? I can't remember that one.
At least they remembered Test Drive. That was a good one. I remember taking screen shots of my record setting runs to take in to school. The only thing that game needed was my precious stainless steel car...
I've had my Kershaw about two years, and I still love it and think it is the best.
It has locking needle nose pliers, like Vice-Grips, and I find that INVALUABLE. Other great features include hacksaw and file, and locking serrated blade that can open without opening the whole tool, thus making it easier to use. And Kershaw make EXCELLENT blades. Very sharp, very durable. The best; my dad has been using a Kershaw filet blade on Alaska salmon and moose, caribou, sheep, bear for 20 years, and it is still perfect.
That said, it is longer than a Gerber, or Wave...
I have stopped carrying my since I got my Palm Pilot; I was beginning to feel like Batman with all these things hanging on my belt with that and my cell, pager. Now I just store it in my glove box so it close by, carrying it sometimes.
Exactly. I have an English degree, and have been doing engineering for broadcast and networks for nearly 8 years, including time in school. Like with any job, you have to sell yourself and prove that you know what you know.
I love reading, and writing fiction. So I took English and have my degree there. But I also love computers, so that's where I make money. Now I can't write really good C code, but I can write some cool Perl and shell scripts, and I definitely won't be writing any math intensive apps like encryption... but I don't want to, either.
Do what you love to do.
Me, I like to read, write, script, take care of my unix boxen, and drive my stainless steel car, and play with my kids!
Yeah- it spells PIS (which is what PBS often is, except for Masterpiece theatre [only half the time] and that other show about English history-- the kings and castles and wars and whatnot) but just you wait, there will be an gov't funded PIS network of ad free sites and boring content. And on-line begging for money and support.
Do we need it? heck no. Stop wasting gov't money, send it all to NASA!

And I get 20 MPG when I drive like Andretti!

No-- the Great Pretender was based on another true story. If you remember, that movie was monochrome.
