One of the most awesome things that the Eclipse people did was switch to a foundation built on OSGi after the first version.
Eclipse is a showcase that showcase the power of a modular component framework.
Sun really screwed up by failing to adopt OSGi for Java's module system.
When I think of the best technologies available to the average Java developer like myself I rank the JVM first and OSGi second.
With setup boxes now set to become ubiquitous, I want a box that integrates some OSGi-like framework that will enable me to integrate all the devices in my house.
I'm not a big supporter of gun rights here in the US but it just occurred to me that now I understand the argument that 'only people that have guns will be the criminals'.
In this case, the only people with rootkits installed on their machines will be the law abiding citizens.
PS: I assume they'll also make it illegal to remove a rootkit, so people that just care about their privacy instantly become criminals too.
Well, 'we' did not bail them out, our 'duly elected' politicians bailed them out.
Politicians... ...that are heavily dependent on campaign contributions from the companies needing the bailing out, and ...that have close personal ties to the executives from said companies, and in some cases used to run said companies
Some rules that remove the responsibility for responsible decision making from our so-called leaders would be a good thing.
I'm an American, and I worked factory jobs before, during, and AFTER getting a BS in physics.
Those jobs...
1) Gave me the motivation to finish school and keep looking for a better job.
2) Eventually helped me get a job because potential employers saw that I had good work ethic and knew how to show up and work every day.
3) Paid the bills.
I wouldn't hire someone that sat on their ass after getting out of school.
People however, *do* normally drown when their feet are cast in concrete.
No they dont.
You have to also toss them into water that's deep enough to drown them.
Ortiz was aware that Swartz suffered from depression and pursued outrageously exaggerated charges against him anyway.
She essentially knew he was wearing concrete shoes and tossed him overboard anyway...
I assemble my own home machines. I spend a little extra money on low noise hard drives and CPU fans. I use nightstands from IKea for the case. I line the inside with foil tape and I leave the back panel off. Leaving the back off gives the case *plenty* of ventilation and stays very cool. I mount all the components to the side and bottom of the case with industrial velcro. The velcro sucks up *all* vibration*. Using low noise components means I can hardly hear the machine when its on it even though the back of the case is open. If there is any other background noise at all I cannot detect if the machine is on.
Romney just won when he mentioned the president's delayed reaction to an act of terror.
Who in their right mind would vote for Obama again?
The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were delayed reactions to an act of terror. At least Obama's reactions dont cost us trillions of dollars and thousands of lives.
I'm not again alternative energy.
But these storms would have ripped solar panels off of roofs.
And you can go to youtube and see videos of wind turbines ripping themselves apart in high winds.
But power plants dont get destroyed in a storm and power lines can be put in the ground.
Why would automated test suites need to constantly test code that we know works?
They dont.
You rerun test suites after making a change because you cant be sure that the code still works.
The only reason to keep testing is because changes keep being made.
Yes, traditional joins run in a single process but AFAIK there no reason why a join could not be distributed across many processes by implementing the join with Map/Reduce. Right?
MongoDB is Webscale. MySQL is not Webscale, because it uses joins.
I see this comment a lot and I don't get it.
Somehow Map/Reduce is considered *webscale* and joins are not.
But I can implement a join with Map/Reduce so why don't the webscale databases provide join functionalty that is built on top of Map/Reduce and save us all the trouble of reinventing the wheel?
This statement from the judge was used as an axiom for making his judgment...
the transcription of pi to music is a non-copyrightable idea. The resulting pattern of notes is an expression that merges with the non-copyrightable idea of putting pi to music: assigning digits to musical notes and playing those notes in the sequence of pi is an idea that can only be expressed in a finite number of ways.
However, I doubt that the statement "assigning digits to musical notes and playing those notes in the sequence of pi is an idea that can only be expressed in a finite number of ways" is true. Certainly, the judge cannot prove that statement. Therefore I think his ruling is not logically sound.
For instance, I could take any sufficiently long sequence of digits in pi and come up with a mapping of those digits to notes to produce the song "Beat It". A corollary: the legal system in the US is complete shit.
Maybe that's true, and maybe is not, but suppose I write a program that searches pi for existing material, then can I use that material without violating copyright?
I have built both a CNC router and a 3D printer.
It is *much* harder to build a milling machine because of the mechanical stiffness that the machine requires.
Take a look at the printed parts used to build a reprap - the parts have very sophisticated shapes that are *impossible* to make on the typical sub-$1000 2.5D CNC machine.
I assembled a RepRap Prusa in a weekend but it took me 8 weekends to figure out......what software to use to drive the machine (RepSnapper)....what driver to use on the electronics (Sprinter), and how to configure and recompile it for my machine...what slicing software to use (Skeinforge), and how to configure it (properly configuring Skeinforge can be a fulltime job)....what 3d design software to use (current using OPENscad)
In order to make intelligent decisions, voters need to understand what they're controlling. If they can't do that, you've got to remove some functionality.
But the average American is not much more intelligent than a squirrel, if we dumb down that far then the country will end like Lord Of The Flies.
I'm only half kidding.

Just rich would suffice...

If you fell down in the mud and got dirty, you had to wear them the rest of the week.
It sucks that 'the help' only did the wash on weekends.

like he said, you end up doing joins in your application

Step 1: Bend your wrist to type on tablet. Step 2: Move your fingers rapidly.
While your at it you can get yourself a neck injury too, just spend half the day staring down at your iPhone or iPad.
Thanks for the tips, I will do all that...
two comments....
