Run by fat wreck chords out of San Francisco (I think.) does exactly this. Sort of.
You tune into the stream, and pop up window tells you what song is playing. In this window, you have a chance to vote on whether or not you like the song. Songs that get voted on more often get played in the rotation more often. I suppose the major missing part is to generate the playlist dynamically.
Sadly, it looks like they are closing down, however. Should be around for another month at least. According to the site, they use Icecast, PHP and apache.
As much as people tend to hate Microsoft, I wonder if the same feelings should really be towards Bill too.
I don't think he is alone in making all the decisions for the company. What about Mr. Ballmer?
I remember reading somewhere that Bill Gates and his wife donate 1 billion dollars every year to libraries and schools in Canada and the United States. That is hardly chicken feed, even for the worlds richest man. The money actually goes to his charity, but still...
and with 3 of them, we could have wireless access throughout most of our city (it wasn't that big)
To me, this seems like a much better solution. Don't worry about creating a NAN (or whatever you want to call it). Just have access to your own broadband from anywhere in the city. You and a few friends, of course.
I'd love to be able to frag online while riding a city bus, sitting in traffic, hell even sitting in the park.
I wonder if the military would like to use this sort of a system for other means?
I would imagine that the beam could be modified slightly, so that it would slowly sweep the landscape of undesirable nations. This way, whoever is the enemy of the Americans at the moment can slowly be irradiated.
It wouldn't show any immediate damage, but within 30 years, the enemy would notice that not many normal children are being born. Add to that the immense increase in cancer, and the Americans now have the greatest weapon ever invented.
By my logic (which has been flawed before), 100% of users in all provinces get bandwidth from the telcos. Even small ISP's get their bandwidth from the telcos.
Even Worldcom Canada gets bandwidth from Bell, at least in the Toronto area.
I suppose the exception would be cable users on Rogers, although Rogers is 40% owned by AT&T.
If there were some sort of AT&T/Time Warner/AOL merger, it would affect Canada much more than you think.
Did all these 20-something CEO's really live the high life?
From what I understand, even though a 25-year old was the President/CEO, he also happened to be 1 of only 5 employees. Also working as hard as the rest of them.
If someone would pay the bills, I'd gladly trade work for College. Lots more girls there too!
I wonder if they will be monitoring email too. How about usenet? Will this be an across the board scan for "illegal content?"
I am curious how they can only scan for certain things. How the heck does this even work? Keep a log of what people connect to, and then check it out later?
Would this kind of activity even stand up to a court challenge?
...How many installations of Windows are actually licensed. If the widespread corruption of the cops is any indication, I would guess that for every licensed Windows, there are 6 un-licensed.

And, what happens when the hard drive fails? Will HP replace all the music that I didn't backup? They expect us to backup 40 gigs of music on cdr's?
I can imagine the tech support calls at HP...
"My music won't play. All I hear is a clicking noise."
"Your hard drive needs to be replaced, Ma'am."
"What's a hard drive? Will that fix my music?"

Only until the neighbor runs over your NAN with a lawnmower...

If you had a firewall, it might have prevented this. And I'm not talking about the supposedly built-in one included in XP.

the matches, or should we blame the fire. Or the doctors who allow them to respire?
Sorry, couldn't resist a South Park joke.

Ever seen Demolition Man? Well we're heading in that direction quickly
My god. Does this mean all the restaurants will soon be Taco Bell?
200CDN is like .50 $US.
The way I see it, it isn't even worth a stamp.

Interesting... I am also from Toronto, and Rogers@home was available almost a year before Sympatico HSE (as it used to be called)
I suppose it depends on what part of Toronto you are in (OK, North York, actually)
Some neighborhoods have a better cable system, but crappy telephone, and vice versa.
Super Mario 2 is another example, where it wasn't ported to the US, because Nintendo thought it was too hard for americans.
I used to have this game. I bought my NES in Canada, so I know it wasn't a Japanese import. Guess we Canadians are smarter than Americans!
I remember sending an email to complain about this. ROgers replied with a funny email about posting the problem report on their website.
They seemed quite proud of the fact that the (unreachable) website told me that the website was, in fact, unreachable.
If I had gotten through to tech support, they would probably have told me to reset my modem.
Next time there is a major meltdown somewhere, let me know, becuase I think I have a magic modem...
Don't any other countries make movies and music anymore? Last I checked, the final A in RIAA stood for AMERICA.
Will the rest of the world stand by and let the United States tell us what we can and can't do?
Seeing as we weak Canadians will (unfortunately) do whatever the Americans do, I hope others might prevent it.

...clean good AMERICAN themes
Hopefully the X-box for sale in Canada will filter out the nasty AMERICAN themes!
Add another number to the list.
5. That's 80 dollars in the hole for me, because I can't return this game if is sucks.
A more important question is: Why is it illegal to modify something that you legally own?
What is the difference if I paint it green, attach racing stripes to it, or chip it?
I realise that pirated games are illegal. That is not the point, I'm afraid...
Can a carmaker build a car named the Diablo? Wait, I think that was already done 8 years ago...
