As important as it is to recognize the work that is being done by others to help in remote areas of the world, it is equally important to recognize that money easily donated is not the real answer. It is extremely easy to donate $25.00 and then go on with your life. An even greater impact could be made by taking a look around your neighborhood. Is their a community program which could benifit by recieving the greatest gift, one of involvement from people with knowledge and the time to share. If there is consider giving the time. If there isn't one allready then start one.

  6. Amazon Doesn't SELL used books on Publishers/Authors Angry at Amazon Selling Used Books · · Score: 2

Some people seem to be missing the forest for the trees. Amazon doesn't sell used books. The feature known as Marketplace allows Joe Q Public to sell at a discount used copies of the same material Amazon is selling New. For this placement Amazon will recieve 15% of the sale price when the item sells. Amazon doesn't inventory the merchandise. The seller is responsible for shipping etc. They have a simular feature called zShops which allowed crosslinking to Amazon's inventory so someone who looked a t a book would also see on a rotating basis links to three different offerings from independent sellers. I have been using both services and although the newer marketplace fees are higher they have generated good results. I have sold some books probably fewer than 20 or so. Most of what I sell are CD's (They have all been reduced to 0's and 1's so what do I need the hard copy for anymore? They have paid for my school this past year. Used book stores exist all over. On the web you have ebay and Half.com which both allow the selling of used product.

  13. Re:OEM's? Not PC builders but rather stereo on MP3 Player - The Be Way · · Score: 1

The convergence between computer system and plug it into the stereo systems is rapidly approaching. My guess is they are targeting manufacturers of stereo components who will be building and marketing this as a stereo system component. Sure its guts will be a computer but its outward appearance will be a stereo component. 90% of the population won't care what's inside or how it works. They just want to plug it into their existing stereo and play mp3's. The other 10% will want to tweak it and modify it. Sure you can do a lot of this now and build your own box. But then you are probably in the 10% category.
