The real die-hards would become ISPs and if they were sitting at a computer connected directly to the server they wouldn't be take the filters off and use it at will. Plus that would be against the first amendment. Since not everyone shares copyrighed material.
It failed...They fixed it The people who fixed it...got sick It almost failed...They fixed it
It almost failed Again... They shut it down
Monkeys learn faster, but hey those people weren't worth much to the goverment anyway.
"Early in the year after discovering in a routine check that it owned the patent for the hyperlink, BT wrote to 17 U.S. ISPs (Internet service providers), including Prodigy, asking them to pay for the privilege of using the technology through licensing agreements."
Last time I checked everyone around the world uses hyperlinks so, why not charge everyone for the useage? Because then a new version of html would comeout and instead of hyperlinks they would have superlinks(or hydrolinks,or Knock-offlinks) which would be completely different and with out copyright or patent. BT is just trying to make a quick buck.
"Futurists speculate that robots will soon clean our houses and baby-sit our kids." I don't think I'd want a robot baby-sitting my kids, The whole time I was reading the article I just kept thinking AI and the matrix. "They will run factories and fight in wars." So we teach 'em how to fight then let them baby-sit. Good idea? I think not. And would there be MS robots I'd hate for us to lose a war because the robot blue screened.
The last time I checked it was possible to use many other operating systems to provide internet access, and just since the software is "Free" that doesn't mean hardwear is, or bandwidth who would be paying for that,IP addresses and many other things that must be purchased. Also if there will be any censorship of the internet through these kiosks, I mean no one likes censorship but would you want to go to a coffeeshop and just happen to glance over at a kiosk and see the browser on www.beastality.com? Since they will be free the government will prolly pick up the bill for this access and governments in gerneral are notorious for censorship. Another consideration is will they be like pay phone 35cents for 15 or will it be really free? Simply I doudt it!
Origianlly it was on a network it was to sent email from unix slaves to other peoples accounts who were on the system, so it was on a network it just wasn't on arpa net.
Since MS bought them it was just a matter of time before this happened. We all saw it coming even when they told us that their staff and focus would remain the same.
The Article neglected to say that for the most part games like quake and unreal don't cause people to become violent it lets them let out that bottled up emotion on something that they cannot hurt I simply don't believe that quake would cause a child to kill another one. I mean really if you shoot someone with a rocket it would blow him or her up, not just take 70 something health and armor off of them. Everyone Knows this, people who do school shooting should probably try a quake deathmatch, they might not want to shoot people anymore.
Xerox actually started the GUI and Steve saw it and copied it and just because people saw the Mac before they saw Windows or X doesn't mean that it's apple intellectual property. Did AT&T or Berkley, or anyone else who could have copy-righted Unix, bring litigation against MS or even apple when they used the command line? No, because they didn't steal the design they just used it in their own way for their own purpose.
Most software sucks because they can make one or two hotfixes and add a new function or three and sell it for the same price that they sold the first one, or and upgrade for a little cheaper. Its BS they shouldn't sell you anything unless it's a new product or greatly improves the original. That would be like Norton selling the product and then six months later sell you the same product again for the same price so that you can get the virus database update.
The Cable companies probably started the investigation instead of doing more advertisement, which they should have done saying that cable can be up to 30mbit/s which is more impressive than DSL. Most people don't realize that 30mbit/s is nearly always going to be impossible and it is now.
No I'm not saying that if you want a myfamily.com domain it's squatting but getting the domain, asking how much a person would like to pay for it and then giving it to the highest bidder is squatting.
There should be some kind of expiration period where the original owner can pay an extra fee and get the domain back, but this amount of time should be automatic with no exceptions. There should also be a reason for owning a domain, it isn't right to buy a domain and just hold it down for a prolonged period.
Why would anyone, I mean anyone need such a mouse i have in my life broken 5 mouses that brings the grand total to $100 including tax and I think that in the next 20 years I will probably buy 5 or six more but that is still only $200 a $79 savings still and by the time you actually save any money with it you will not like it anymore and buy another. The only thing that I can see this mouse being used for is bragging rights:

The structure of the network is client-server, as is the chat and search functions, but the transferring of files from one another is peer-to-peer.
If it is outlawed then only the outlaws will have the code, which is who has it now. So what is the reason for the case?

The very oldest hyperlink patent is for programing and is avalible Here. The Second "A technique for navigating between a first and second object in an object-oriented computer system" which could apply here, but still probably doesn't
This is probably the oldest having to do with anything like that:A reader for displaying an electronic document stored in a predetermined format and allowing articles of the document to be read in the direction of their content information flow
These are the best I could find.
the us government expires the patent for them

In 1995 they didn't see how much money they could steal(era make) from prodigy for hyperlinks.
Gore invented the internet and didn't have a patent either.

Why would you want to live longer if you had to eat less, and that just adds years to the end of your life and those aren't fun anyway.

Right for the low cost pc for the common folk, which will experience the most cpu usage with IE and outlook.
Durons are just the amd version of the celeron so it doesn't matter much anyway most geeks would buy the athlon anyway.

I'm Glad that there is a search Engine that doesn't have a 45-90sec. load time for those of us who aren't fortunate enough for broadband.

The fines for pirated software can be as much as $150K per copy so they are trying to pay microsoft so that they don't press charges.
