I'm sorry, but I'm a little confused. Are you saying that windows mobile is losing market share? Every new cool phone eclipses the old cool phone. windows mobile on the AT&T tilt smashed AT&T's 8525 phones. And, right now the iPhone is smashing the windows/android based devices... but as we speak the tide is turning. the first and second wave of iphone users now have their 2 yrs contracts firmly in place, and it's other devices that will start to take back market share percentages. come what may, windows mobile is not going away
now as to the whole software distribution. If you have a MacOS, Windows, Linux, etc software you built in your basement and wanted to start selling, you will consign it to someone, or build up a webpage and market the darn thing yourself. With Iphone, you don't have that option. With android and windows you do. If company A is big enough to secure exclusive rights on the iphone store, you're out of the game anyway. I think your argument about software distro is a little off, but i'm willing to listen to your side again.
it's a shame that t-mobile didn't advertise the G1 better. I understand that they didn't want to emphasize android, as soon you'll be able to get a phone with that from any vendor... but soon the world will wake up to android as a development platform, and then the really cool geeky projects will come out. Android has a market place, and yet allows direct installs. I'm really happy with it right now.
In answer to the original question, i feel that the correct platform to build your home brew app on is windows mobile. if you are anti microsoft enough to refuse that... then go with android. the market there will catch up (in case your ever thinking about going commercial with your product).
no your not. If you were, you would have provided more facts to prove your story, and you wouldn't have posted 'alomst' the same post twice. you're a toll, and you've never seen an accelerator except on websites.... just like the rest of us.
It's not the fellow science geeks that want to play around inside the system. It's the crazies that think they are doing the world a favor by shutting down the machine that will bring about the end of the world.
Okay.. I don't even know if mod points still exist in slashdot.... I haven't logged into this account in so long I don't even know what the rules are any more... this you comment made me chuckle. When i was in IT, I'd search google for it first... the use google to search slashdot for it second. Slashdot has provided me with many fixes over the years. It's to bad I don't have enough time to read it much any more. I'd add +1 funny.
"The only way to make managers scared of being audited is to make them fear haveing to pay out huge settlements. The best way to do that is highly public law suits..."... oh, like SCO?
exactly! but this is a question I have... the artical said that got 13k titles, from 120 searches. That's 109 files per search. But I know of 50-60 people around here where they could find 30k on one box. What is their definition of "high-ranking members of international piracy groups"? does that make since to anyone?
Yes, ridiculous. This crime is nothing compaired to all that "crazy, crazy shit going on in the world" you talk about. Which is the same thing you cry when a cop pulls you over for driving to fast. You want everyone to turn their head to small crimes. Let's just stop following up on anything that doesn't injure someone. If they didn't rape or kill anyone, let's just not follow up on anymore claims of wrong. Right? You will never understand the concept of owning something of value, until you actually do own something of value, and some punk comes and takes it away. And as for your claim that it was a "massive, worldwide sting operation", it was 120 searches in 24 hours. Not massive by any sreach.
What difference does it make what media type they were holding? While it's lame to hunt down people for things like this, they were holding items that weren't theirs, then turning around and giving use of it away. I'm more suprised that if they did 120 searches of "high-ranking members of international piracy groups", and only got 13,000 titles. Seems like they should have done better homework on who these "high-ranking members of international piracy groups" really are."
Yes, we enjoy it very much! It tickles, and some times they kiss us when they are done. BTW, where do you live where you don't have to deal with manipulation?
Right on! Now stop blaming the school system because your kids can't pass the 3rd grade for the ninth time. After all, it is YOUR responsability to make sure your kids is giving 110%, right? ya with me on this one?
"Everybody follow me, we're going streaking through the quad. COME ON!!!"
please explain "lost in the noise". you mean the the noise of ultegra vs. durace? anyone can benefit from that kind of upgrade. and the ultegra is going to be a lot less noisy.
You can't take that shortcut in the grass and dirt with your road bike. If I have an extra $2000 burning a whole in my pocket, and I'm just a casual rider, I'm not going to buy a time trial bike. I'm going to get something that I think will meet all of my needs. Which may include a ride on the rocky shore of a stream followed by a nice, flat 20 mile bike path back to the house.
it's amazing the lengths they go to, to reduce weight. Nike made Lance's jersy without seams so that it was (something like) 4 grams lighter. and that translated into 4 seconds per mile faster. over the course of a 100 miles, that more than 6.6sec/100miles. also, clothing must breath and remove sweat. even to the point that when they lean up vents open to allow air flow to the skin, but when they crouch, the vents close and make their body more airo. its crazy!
list your equipment. not every bike will hold together at ~70mph. down hill at 70 takes a special set of components. and there are only a handfull of forks that I can think of that would take that kind of beating. you would have to have gone down one of the longest steepest hills ever, or you've got one hell of a ring set. I can't wait to see you back up your claim with the specs of the bike you did it on. I call BS.
Agree. This will be my last point. My mom nor my kid sister would know where to get a pirated DVD. Hell, the only way I know how to get pirated content is from P2P clients. So what I'm saying, and what you are failing to understand is... even though you claim "millions of pirate DVDs", economicly you don't matter. you were never going to buy a legal DVD in the first place. The only thing this technology was designed to do is keep honest people honest. theifs will always be theifs. Right? MGM isn't looking to Japan for it's 4th quarter earnings boost. Yet DVDs still sell there. WHY? HOW? What is going on? In a market where pirated DVDs are available on the street cornor, how are they still selling legit copies there? The answer is simple. Not everybody is angry at their dad like you are. Not everyone feels the need to steal, just because they can. the only reason mp3s are so popular is because the gray line between right and wrong is so wide. poeple don't think of something so easy to get as wrong. but a great percentage of people who will download an illegal mp3 without a thought, would be far more hasitant to buy a pirated DVD from someone on the street.
Now. I'm done talking about this issue. You are irrelevant in economic terms, and many others i'm sure. You may continue your self lothing now.
completely agree, but you have to understand that you are in the minority. such a small minority, that the big content companies don't care about you. you'll stick with your mp3 player until it blows up, then you'll buy a different one just like it on ebay. but as I've said over and over at this point... they don't care about you. You (one who is beyond the temptaion of new technology) are such a small market segment that you litterally just don't matter.

We checked you background anyways ;)
Okay, now I'm not being antagonistic, I'm really curious (in a survey sort of way)... Cisco isn't the best, but what is your opinion what is?
Who puts together the best router solution?
Who's switches would run your ideal network?
Who kills at the SANS device space?
Who's VoIP gateways are seen as the best?
Who's Security devices rule?
What manufacturer offers all these type devices?
Who supports their products better?
Notorious? You sound like you've done your homework on this one. What are some examples that make these problems "notorious"?

how many lines of code are we talking about?
Xcode is too bulky as compaired to VS.net? wow... now that's say'en something.
13 and a half...
"The only way to make managers scared of being audited is to make them fear haveing to pay out huge settlements. The best way to do that is highly public law suits..."... oh, like SCO?
Yeah, they want to tap those deep college student pockets... what the hell are you talking about?
