wonder if the government can read the postal letters sent by Indian Post, FedEx, UPS et al
Although I do not like it, I can understand the reasons and consider it a necessary evil. Not sure what prompted the government to take this step. India banned some Chinese telecom equipment makers a few weeks back and now this. Isn't US giving special powers to the President to get the kill switch for the internet. or at least moving in that direction. btw, US and UK already monitor the email traffic. So, this is not something new.
Folks, you are complicating things un-necessarily. I feel that changing DST was a stupid thing to do and now since DoE has found that it has not saved much, imagine what would happen if we do not even change our business hours. I think that would ease up a few of the complications. We may still have different timezones in a country but no daylight savings. So, you would still be going to work from 9 to 5. its just that in winter 5 would be darker in the night. yes, but more energy consumption you say ? but that was what was proven wrong..... right?;) and yes, no one plays with your freaking clock. All the businesses are in sync.
Let me correct a bit here. Firstly, you *do not* pay a fortune to attend the IIT's. the fees here are around Rs.18000.00/semester that is USD 400 per semester that includes the hostel accommodation (http://www.iitb.ac.in/academic/springfees2006-07. pdf) Secondly, I do not consider the infrastructure as poor by any standards. Thirdly, the knowledge and the degree students get here is truly world class. You do not need a fortune to get in the IITs you need to be fortunate enough though.
We have Pergrine's Service centre for all the problems/incidents/change requests that we
work on or that are assigned to us. This serves our purpose very well. Although we do not use a web based system I am sure they have some web based logging feature.
for some queries/requests which come to me directly by mail/phone i sometimes use the MS-Outlook's task request/reminders or the older method - PostIt notes.;)
some numbers for comparison: Japan: total: 23,654 km (15,895 km electrified) standard gauge: 3,059 km 1.435-m gauge (entirely electrified) narrow gauge: 77 km 1.372-m gauge (entirely electrified); 20,491 km 1.067-m gauge (12,732 km electrified); 27 km 0.762-m gauge (entirely electrified) (2000)
India: total: 63,693 km (13,771 km electrified) broad gauge: 45,103 km 1.676-m gauge narrow gauge: 15,178 km 1.000-m gauge; 3,105 km 0.762-m gauge; 307 km 0.610-m gauge (2001)
Indian Railways runs around 11,000 trains everyday, of which 7,000 are passenger trains
Indian railways has come a long way since its beginning (in 1853). if high tech can improve the services , why not?
any company can afford the ads provided the users go and buy their products . We hardly go to the advertisers site when we see the banners . I dont think even if companies like coke will benefit if nobody gives the ads a second look
