I'm sick and tired of Hellmouth. Not the concept, which needs to be put out to the media, but the fact that it has to be put out to the media and it isn't! Wasn't this thing supposed to be in print?
We, as slashdotters, don't need to hear this. We are either going throguh it, or remembering it with a shudder as we get on with the rest of our life.
Here's what I propose: Print the book and sell it to the mass media. These essays are good, but they aren't getting to the right demographic. The teachers, principles and parents of the world are the people who need to be reading this, not additional victims! When I can see this book on the New Releases at Borders or B&N, and see that the message is getting out there instead of staying here stagnent, then I'll be happy!
I generally like anything by Miyazaki, but I need to point out several things about this disc. (First one to buy it on release day at the local Borders)
Just because the Mouse did this release does not mean that they slaughtered this movie. I couldn't be happier with the video quality, which is one of the best transfers I've seen for an anime. All the colors stay at their right levels, including all of Miyazaki's breath taking forest scenery.
Both audio tracks came off well, even though I'll personally only be watching this in Japanese w/ English subtitles, hey, it has both captions and good literal translation subtitles!
Go out and buy it today. You won't regret it, even if you aren't an anime fan.
I have no real information on this, and at the risk of sounding like a troll, the obvious answer is YES, especially if you look at how many games support glide these days!
First of all, I know next to nothing about BeOS except for it's link to an anime called Serial Experiments Lain, which cmdTaco seems to love. Oh, It apparently has a great filesystem too, but I don't know anything about it, or can compare it to something, like ReiserFS.
To relate this back to the last story, and I mentioned I know nothing about BeOS, but I'm guessing it doesn't use XWindows, (The huge, clunking monstrosity that runs as root). If the Amiga toolkit was GPLed, would there be any chance of making a unified Windowing system, leaving all the hustle and bustle to the OS advacates. (FreeBSD! Linux! FreeBSD!! Linux!!...)
> But I was replying to a statement about Japanese?s thoughts and feelings about Americans.
I'm really not sure one could look at one without considering the other. To an extent, the current "gaijin"(foreigner) xenophobia is caused by the second World War, and I was just pointing out that.
> The devotion of the Japanese to the Emperor was blinding.
Good thing Hiro Hito came clean a little while after. "No, I've just been fooling. I'm not really a God..."
Really. I feel I must point out a problem with that.
The Japanese will often use Hiroshima and Nagasaki as devices for pity. It is often overlooked that Japan needed to be stoped as a military prescene in East Asia. Why do you think the Chinese and Koreans hate the Japanese? Maybe you might want to read into subjects like Japan's takeover of Manchuria, and the Rape of Nanjin.
First of all, I feel for all of you. I mean both the people gripping about these articles, and the victims. Everone on Slashdot already knows about Hellsmouth. I think it's profound, but your aiming at the wrong audience! There was talk earlier of publishing it as a book. For Christs sake, do it! We,/., won't have to put up with it, and the message will go out to who really needs to hear it!
Where can I download this? Moreover, how would I compile it for my brain?
First, I'll need to make sure that there is a gcc port for human neuro-structure. I'll also need to make sure I have at least libEYE.so.4.3 and libEAR.so.2.7 installed, along with the appropriate header files.
It'd probably be simple to write something like this, if the hardware existed. put some filter in between, cat/dev/ear > gtk-synaesthesia >/dev/eye.
Right now, I'm in my school's tech lab, and my school is the voting place for our district. We have adults wrapping around the hallways. I'd guess the wait is somewhere around 2 hours...I'd love to vote (NADER ROCKS!)...too bad I won't be eighteen for another week...
I've never gotten Xanim to work properly.
One great alternative though, is xtheater,
which can play DIVX AVI files, and last time
I checked, Microsoft's ASF (Not reliably thought...)
Check it out at http://xtheater.sourceforge.net.

Gee, you haven't seen the start menu for Whistler yet, have you?
Really? Why would they ever have to OSS the whole thing? Just build a proprietary system on top of the Linux kerenel, like Mac OS X did w/ FreeBSD.
> movies players that support ASF, Divx;-),
These already exist. Goto Xtheater

Hell, read about it here: Click me!
Now, does this justify the A bomb? I don't want to be a troll, so I'll leave that to the philosophers.

Looking through the comments, I see two basic kinds: The kind bashing the article, and the kind saying, hey, this is a good idea.
Okay. Release the book. The people who care can rejoice, but the people who hate the idea will yell.
The converse is true also. Everyone who wants the book will complain if they don't get it. I most certainly will. What about them?
My oppinion is to just go and publish it. Go ahead. Make a (hopefully!) national best sellar.
I am NurikoDOTchanAThomeDOTcom. Hear me roar.
