Don't we already have this, depending on the distro? Many of the major distros default to either KDE or Gnome, but offer other options. Even a new refugee from Win 9x would have to be a complete idiot not to be able to work their way around the default KDE or Gnome destop. Want a different desktop?? The power user can either choose another provided by the distro, or download one (not at all difficult for the power user).

I saw the original in '77 also. I'm 46 years old now, have two sons (13 & 11) and will most definitely NOT be seeing it with them (Mom will go...). The original was excellent, Empire Strikes Back, also very good. Return of the Jedi bordered on ludicrous. I honestly have absolutely no interest, hype or no. Wish I did actually, but.........
Afte reading the last eight or none comments on this thread, I have to ask: Holy Sh_t, are we off topic, or what????????

Bought six of these drives and about fifteen disks two years ago for my school district. Within six months not one of the damn things worked. (Lots of clicking noises however) Not only have I had to junk the lot, but I lost over a dozen large presentations that can no longer be recovered. Switched to Zip drives and disks. Not a problem since (either in SCSI or Parallel config...) Now Zip is capable of 250 mb?? I'll have to try a couple of those for large programs I'd like to transport. The SCSI versions are far faster than CD-R..
Actually, I hope that one of the "tricks" Mozilla will borrow from IE 4.0/5.0 is the ability of the interface to disappear. Then you get "nothing but page". That's especially useful when utilizing a laptop or small monitor
I already use a Win version of StarOffice 5.0 and will probably rely on it when I install Linux (most likely a Mandrake distribution). I think their wordprocessor equals MS Word, spreadsheet equals Excel, but their presentation programs is NOT the equal of PowerPoint, unfortunately.
I've been dying to try Linux (I'll probably be purchasing Mandrake 5.3, but I'm waiting to see if their "merger" with BeroLinux leads to an improved version..), but I have serious doubts about my ability to install it properly myself. Stories like the VV one don't help, nor do the problems I read on the boards. You seem to think that anyone who can install Windows on their own should be able to install a commercially designed distribution of Linux also. I've installed Win 95/98/ & NT on numerous desktops and 98 & NT on two different notebooks (Thinkpad and Satelite Pro). Never had a problem. They virtually installed themselves (though NT involves some intervention). Hope Linux is just as easy (I hear Mandrake is supposed to be).
This is a *feature* NOT a bug ;o)
