it's a bit dickish of microsoft to kill the store, but I think it was even more dickish to turn off the MyPhone backup service (it was like iCloud)
basically, they gave cool things to Windows Mobile and took them away. They should have not bothered at all. Poor management, like the Kin.
Microsoft has 90,000 employes, so hireling a few more lawyers wouldn't move the needle, IMHO.
it would be smarter if you asked for the legal or lobbying budget compared to r and d! it's already known they largely got screwed because they were not politically savvy in the 90s, and rectified that after.
Was this rant written in 1999?
On my home PC (not SSD or anything), outlook 2010, which connects to the office's exchange server, start in 1 second. So does Word.
Photodoshop does scan a few plug-ins before starting up.. it takes 3 seconds.
The demagogy part? basing things on prejudice rather than facts and claiming programmers don't care about startup time, and the splash is the symbol of our carelessness for the user.
btw, I don't know where the summary gets this web thing.. it's not really what the article says
"which by the way, means the GPL means nothing, because its entire existence is based on copyright law"
Since the GPL only NEEDS to exist because of copyright law that isn't saying much. Without copyright law everyone has the rights granted by the GPL by default.
you have no clue what the gpl is there for.
tthe GPL is there is force source code to remain available to the user so we can modify the programs we use. without copyright law, we don't get that right to the source code.
bit worse in this case because MegaUpload offers cash rewards to user to upload very popular files, thereby slyly encouraging people to upload content that is understood to be pirated. And they have chat logs with the owners that prove they are aware of this and this is their business models. But that's not a legal argument and I can't see at this moment how that would invalidate safe harbour protection. It's not so different from youtube. then again the DOJ must have something if they think it won't fall on its ass futher down the line. Apparently they do have something on money laundering, and therefore may not be going for copyright violation at all.
I'm glad they are standing up for MegaUpload's right!
The founder barely managed to make 46 million dollars last year with it, now how will be able to pay the mortgage with the accounts frozen??
How are they going to build the wells in Africa now?
Having so much money is *hard*: a constant burden to stay ahead, avoid taxes, getting robbed, etc. Everyone wants a piece of you. The plight of the black people of america is nothing to compared to this.
We should start up a site with donation through paypal to support MegaUpload's humanitarians. We could also have a service that allows you to donate faster (given a reasonable monthly fee).
secure boot is only enable on ARM and is disabled on intel PC, that's why we're talking about tablets and ultra books. it's a non-issue on PCs, nothing to discuss.
they have indeed announced ARM ultrabook. But I think these device will fail once people realize that while it may run windows, it won't run any windows software unless it's specially recompiled for ARM and sold through the App store.
From what I'm reading in comments.. it looks like people don't understand that ARM isn't Intel with better battery life. it's a different processor. and win8 on ARM is a different OS with a different UI.
microsoft doesn't have a monopoly on tablet OS or ARM hardware. in fact they do not have any tablet OS or ARM OS at all.
They are not forcing anyone to make ARM tablets with windows.
if they were, for example by preventing access to Windows on PC if HP didn't make a ARM tablet with windows, that would be a monopoly issue
it shouldn't remind you of any of these social issues, because we're only talking about electronic gadgets here.
there are tons of gadgets or other items in stores to choose from, and many things you're not choosing to buy already because they are useless to you.
actually I love windows - on the desktop, for work. for everything else,it makes no sense. why would I want a constants stream of update on a tablet or other entertainment device? thats crazy! I just want something simple that doesn't other me, like this iPad I'm typing this on
your comment is good, however the bit where I think you're wrong is that running office app on a tablet or ARM hardware is hardly a monopole lever. the real future is running office though th web browser, running apps is obsolete. already I am only using outlook web access to check mail, on my android phone or my iPad, and soon office 365 will come around in the corp I work for. we're all running chrome with sharepoint and OWA already. even if couldn't do that, there are hundreds of apps that can edit word documents (and outlook shows them to you in html)I don't see the problem you are seeing. also, the business who would buy a tablet to run office is hardly the whole tablet market. this thinking should have made the blackberry playbook a runaway success.
because the ARM devices running window are meant to be appliances, like an iPad. there is no point in buying them as a general computing platform, it won't even run any of the current windows software, or have a desktop!
other operating systems is also not really an option on Xbox, TiVo and other similar appliances.
not a troll. locking down arm tablel and other iPad-like products, especially from rootkits or boot virus, has no effect whatsoever on android. maybe they're doing the lock down for better drm as well. in any case, just like you can buy the same htc phone in windows or android versions, I doubt this will limit choice from anyone who wants to run android.
Instead of a Canon G9,10,11,2, get a Canon S90 (like I have) or its replacement which I think is the Canon S100.
It's the same camera, in a smaller package. truly portable. My S90 has a f2,0 lens! I've never used the flash even during the evening, and I've never missed a shot. It's fast and has two user-configurable wheels for manual or semi-automatic shooting.
windows 7 search searches tries to recognize phrases, common variations and misspelling in a flat list. it'll find task specific things in the new control panel
yes it is. If took his example and typed in "Turn Off Monitor" in Windows Vista and up, you will get the GUI he suggests!
But of course, the author is still using f**ing XP and lecturing about the future!
seriously though, I understand his point. It's more a question of a natural language parsing and guessing by context.
what I want to know if what does "Peaceful protesters in Occupy movements all over the world have been labelled as terrorists by the authorities" mean.
Did anyone get procecuted as a terrorist? No?
Ho, you mean someone on TV said something that sounded like that.
That's moronic. You cannot expect to never hear anyone say something stupid. That doesn't make it an oppressive movement by the authorities.
These guys would have never even had time to set down their tent if they were in china. *that's* an oppressive authority.
Easy on the "no longer" and throwing the towel because of one proposed law.
how old are you ? every generations thinks that governments are getting worse and more corrupted. it's the opposite, especially with the ever growing flow of information. What's going on here is debates between different interests; it doesn't mean that there shouldn't ever be proposed any laws proposed that you don't like: they can be proposed AND debated, and potentially rejected. Right now SOPA is still at the debating stage. The system works.
also, I don`t understand what your point #2 has to do with the GoDaddy situation. SOPA is is not a proposal by politicians , and GoDaddy wasn't forced to support it.

there are many windows mobile app stores, you can install apps from any source from the phone

better money, better benifits, better position, perhaps moving out of washington? who can tell really.
No one said he was a on a personal cruisade against google just because he worked on that. he's a laywer and an expert in that domain.
whether the advertiser profited wrongly from the video depends on youtube's EULA which the uploader agreed to, not just copyright.

good luck with that.

heu.. you can see the exact final pictures from the digital sensor in real-time, there is no need for a miror to reflect it back somewhere else.

I don't think you looked at google.com today and looked at the screenshot of the new look. it's a minor change.
