> after the Soviets were defeated in Afghanistan.
Were they defeated? I do not think so. USSR pulled out of Afghanistan in 1989 because they could no longer wanted to fight to keep Afghanistan communist. Look the year 1989 in Wikipedia -- on the scale of changes in USSR and the Eastern Block, pulling out of Afghanistan was a quite unimportant thing.
> Bolivia's Morales, who happens to be the largest cocoa grower
So he is in chocolate business. Is he a part of a conspiracy to make free world peoples fat on candy?
> demands that cocoa leaf chewing be legalized across South America
Now that is stupid. Why on earth somebody want to chew on leaves of Theobroma cacao?
"Robots. Elevators to outer space. A nationwide fiberoptic network.... Is it all worth it?"
You need to waste a lot of money and time to generate exceptional results. If you only do low-risk things, then sure -- you can grow you pile of dough now, but then another start-up google will come at some stage and pull the rug under your low-risk business.
Besides, "is it worth it?" kind of question is meaningless for a geek. It is interesting, ergo it is worth it.
I have a WDTV (WiFi, FullHD) and I can confirm that it "just works". The box is very small! I have tucked it behind my wall-mounted TV, so all wires are hidden. One minor point is that the buttons on the remote are quite hard to press, so entering words using on-screed keyboard is difficult. Of course, you can connect a proper wireless keyboard, so it is not so bad:)
Agreed. The "GMailman" video is just not funny. It is pathetic that Microsoft for all its resources cannot produce a good joke on a competitor. They should ask their buddies in Apple about "Hey! I'm Mac/And I'm a PC" ads.

Really, an "internet" where a user cannot post a picture of a cute kitten for everyone else to see has little value.

Euro 1c, 2c and 5c are made of copper-covered steel, so a magnet should pick up 5c coins too. http://euromania.altervista.org/composition.htm
