I still do not get it. This proves what exactly? The craftsman suspected that the customer may be a criminal. This does NOT make him a co-conspirator in a drug smuggling operation.
"But Anaya resisted his court-appointed lawyer’s advice to plead guilty; he still couldn’t fathom how building traps made him a drug trafficker, and he was confident that a jury would sympathize with his plight."
Logical, I would think. Only the jury in Kanzas (not Anaya's state, BTW) did not sympathize for some reason. Why would that be?
And so? Having a bit of cash is illegal? Did he have to immediately call the police?
On what basis should have he refused to do his job? "Oh, I don't know, I cannot do it because you may be a drug dealer, probably". Great way to treat a customer who may have won a fortune in Las-Vegas.
> I guess the days are finally here when you buy your graphics card and then figure out what kind of system to add on to it
Of course! That has been the case for a long time already. If you want to install, for example, 2 NVidia GTX cards in SLI configuration, you need to think about having enough power, then measure your case, because some cards are longer than the miniATX motherboard and may stick out to the space occupied by your SSD RAID. The motherboard should have PCIE slots spread out wide enough for cards with a lot of heat sinking. Stick as much RAM as you can. And only then you add a latest Intel CPU, does not matter which one, as long as it has a bigger number, like i7 (and definitely not i5!);).
My wife ditched her iMac for an iPad. She could have got a Android tablet, but all available Android tables were not white. And she wanted the *white* tablet computer. The choice was made.
> Strangely enough, I kinda missed the commercials.
Me too! I have a DVR to record movies and an occasional show from the cable TV. Usually I fast-forward through ads, but sometimes I watch ones that look funny.
not war;) I see that 99% of advice here is to fight hate with hate. Potentially involving 'lawyers', which is a name for a bunch of educated scumbags.
Really, it is more productive to actually talk to the guy who maintains the websites and ask him what he wants. Why does he do it? Does *he* feel that he is the wronged party? Maybe he wants recognition for all the work he did putting the original websites, for example. Before, he had the girl. Now some sleaze came and took his girl away. Would you be mad?
I am not going to even download this book for free based on this review. I just hope, for the sake of whoever does get to read the book, it is not as full of cliches as this review.
"perfect storm of nerd-incubation factors" "Savetz'... blossoming into an engaged, social animal. "
I am sorry, but the vision of a nice introverted kid turning into an engaged animal is too terrible to contemplate.
Put the turkey on a dielectric substrate (a ceramic dish). Insert electrodes 5-10 cm apart, connect them to a high amperage 110V-220V power supply. Repeat until all turkey parts had been properly electrocuted.
Haha, that would be the day! You probably know the story about Hodja Nasreddin where he promised to teach the donkey to talk in 10 years time? Then you know the answer.
Northern Europe where *I* live can do with some warmer climate. Why should I pay more for my power because of some future possible water shortages in "[river basins of] the Ganges and the Nile"? We must *prepare* for Global Warming, which may mean, for example, helping India and Egypt to build desalination plants and to grow more food in places which were too cold previously.
Why the hell not? I thought the reason for the internet was to provide a way for data packages to get to their destination without having to have a particular fixed route. Does it says somewhere in the internet standard that data packets *must* be delivered using the shortest route possible?
"[porn distributor] had detailed information on the defendants who had paid accounts on the company’s movie portal"
Look, anybody who voluntarily surrenders *their own credit card details with their real name on it* to an internet porn distributor just asks for trouble.
Spending money on ambitious projects in space will make India richer in more than the monetary sense of the word. How much do you value the pride of a nation? Or the pride of individual engineers working on a space program?
Not everything is measured in GDP. You need big ideas to unite people and to create (at least an illusion of) movement towards the better life.
Free (ad-supported) and cheap internet services can be very good and useful, but they have to compromise between ease of use, security and cost. You want your data to be relatively safe? Compartmentalize (with different methods of access: cloud, local disk, non-erasable storage like DVDs), distribute (home, office, bank safe), switch off access when not needed.
And use different passwords for different sites, please!
that is a public news service, funded by the taxation or a license. Yes, it is not fully free from the government control, but it is still better than commercial services which seem to be levitating to more entertainment (cats) and to less expensive reporting (Syria).
My opinion is that anybody who has a turnover of $20K a year on eBay should mention this on their tax returns. If they did not make a profit, chances are they do not have to pay any additional tax (depending on local laws).
However, "pro-active reporting" or policing should not be done by eBay. If the Revenue Office or the police have suspicions about a particular person -- they should get a warrant to get data from eBay, just like Terry O'Gorman says.
> I think it's very important to try to spread awareness, participation, and encourage elected officials to support such things.
I would like politicians keep as far away from the Internet as possible. Even with the best of intentions, meddling from politicians will result in oppression of freedoms we take for granted. First thing they would take away is anonymity so that can “protect your rights”.
I actually have not played a DVD on a TV for more than a year now; recently I have thrown away the DVD player as it was just taking space near the TV. I watch movies on netflix or saved programs on DVR. I cannot be bothered to go to the movie rental place which is 10 minutes walk from my house anymore.

Very nice work. The article is well written too.
It is not new. "Survival of the friendliest" dogs is described, for example, in Richard Dawkins' The Ancestor's Tale (2004).

Now that is a more convincing argument than a threat of a 4-degree-warmer-summers!
Food I eat mostly consists of potatoes, pork and beef. No problem here.
> Vary the temperature, rainfall, soil salinity etc [some food won't grow where it grew before]
So grow something else. I am still not convinced that this is such a big problem.
1. The end is nigh
2. Repent

4. PROFIT!!!
