RH 6.2 is the last version that I could get samba to work. I don't know what they did to break it but I can't use anything newer until I figure it out.
Don't abandon the floppy just yet. Keep it an option and let the consumer vote with their dollars. There are a number of programs that still require a floppy for install. There is still nothing more convenient for moving 1MB files between computers that are not on a local network. CDR-W file formats depend on your software and are not universally readable. As to the old technology argument all I can say is Our most advanced word processors haven't made the pencil obsolete. Apple tried eliminating the floppy with the iMac and imediately after-market companies started selling external floppy. So Apple saved $15 and cost their customers $99.
I got a 2 carat rock for 60 percent of the appraised value. Go to several, I did see a lot of junk. Bring your finacee, after all see is the one that is going to be wearing it.
I needed one to reinstall a system on a computer less than a year old that would not boot from the CD-ROM drive. I use them to save time on boot ups on dual boot machines that are usually booted to one system but occasionally need to use another OS. When the iMac came out, the first thing I did to make it useful, after adding a serial port to the mezzine slot, was get an external floppy drive. The floppy may be on it's way out. but it will still be around until no one will accept todays hardware as a charitble donation.

Unless you got sucked into the apple marketing hype, color probably the last thing you think about when you select a computer. If you think about it at all.
You assume too much. I have donated time, money and relatives to stem cell research. I will continue to do so, whether or not the government funds it. So will others.
If you think those other stem cell projects are so important, Make a tax deductable donation to some stem cell research group. If you can't find one, start one and get an even bigger tax break. This way the government still foots the bill, but you don't force people who believe it is wrong to support it.
I had an uncommunitive 12 year old. I was worried so I installed a key capture progam on the Mac and kept it in the family room. This also allowed me to get passwords to Webmail sites like hotmail.com So I could monitor that too. Fortunately I had nothing to worry about. I ended up with a lot of stuff I couldn't talk about. In the long run it wasn't worth it.
If I could do it over I would just keep the computer in the family room and keep hammering away at that communication.
Although I have never used a service like aol, a friend of mine was having problems with the browser of a similar service. He solved the problem by opening up another browser after logging. In his case it was two different versions of Netscape. It would be almost worth it to sign up for a free trail period with aol just to try it.
I'm taking a survey. Would you be interested in buying our product or service?

I am an artist. I say it is art. Therefore it is art. Good art is what I like. Bad art is what I don't like.

This is the same NAI that teamed up with the National Security Agency on SE Linux? Slashdot needs a comedy icon for this story.
If DeCarte wasn't born until 1596, how was a fractal drawn in the 13th century with out the Cartesian coordinate system?
Too bad he's probably lying.
