Really, if you could have iMessage and FaceTime on your XP [SIC] machine I seriously doubt that you would.
Why not? If they were standards and that there were many different implementations, there would probably be one that suits my needs. I don't really care who invented it.
Pretty sure the average distance that someone uses a 40" 1080p TV makes it retina too. Yet, TV manufacturers never fell so low as marketing it as "retina".
Apple is competing a lot more in the tablet market than in the phone market. I suspect the new iPad to cost more to produce than the iPhone and yet they sell for about the same price (in the 4G configuration)
Bascially the pixels are so small you cannot easily distinguish one from another. Makes it look a lot more sharp then previous models.
What makes a display looks sharp is the number of pixels, not the size of them. Take a given 100 mega pixel picture. Display it full screen on a 60" 1080p TV or on an iPhone 4.
It will looks sharper on the TV, because it has more pixels. Of course, you will probably be a lot closer to the iPhone.
Older iPhones looked like crap because they had only 320x480 pixels.
It's not all countries. North Korea wouldn't have enough power by itself to vote a censorship of the Internet. It would need a majority of countries to agree. I prefer that to a single country (in that case the US) being able to censor at will.
What's the problem with targeting other countries? You think international web sites such as slashdot target only a single country in particular? Do you think slashdot would change its content if it was not allowed in say, North Korea? Of course not. Why would it be any different for the US? It's still just one country out of about 200. It it fine to run an international web site as.com and not having to pander to stupid domestic laws of a few countries. If they were specifically targeting US customers, they would use.us anyway isn't it?
Google+, however, misses that boat: anyone can add you, without your consent (you can only block, not force them to unfriend). That means there is no "confirmed acceptance", missing out on a key social-emotional facet.
This is exactly what I like about G+. I put the friends I want in the circles I want. My friends do the same. Everybody's happy.
The iPhone 3GS still sells for $350 in Canada. I mean the real price, without a contract. $550 for the iPhone 4. If there was a relation between production cost and retail price, I wouldn't see any possibility for the iPad2 to sell for $200 next month.
As for the PC market vs. Tablets... I got to ponder... Many people are defensive saying that tablets can't or should never take over and that PCs must live for us to keep our computing freedom...
Tablets aren't a threat to computing freedom. iPads are. Most (all?) non-iPad tablet can run your own code for free just fine. And you can develop your code on your platform of choice (Windows/Linux/Mac). I guess someone could even port an IDE and compiler so that they run on the tablet itself.
Why stop to mobile broadband? Why not movie theaters or professional sport teams? Each village should deserve one. Does who work in agriculture might want to enjoy these activities too. Living in the country has some advantages. Fresh air, more space, nature. It also has shortcomings like not being the first to get new cellular technologies deployed.
iTunes alone is a sufficient reason for not using the iPhone. I prefer a phone that I can plug in any PC and copy files too. No software or drivers to install.
Leave the faith? If you want a proprietary replacement to busybox, you probably never had the faith to begin with. Such software is no worse than any other proprietary software such as Windows. And there is no reason for it to get any more criticism.
Look, if you don't like the GPL, don't use it. Better : think of it as proprietary software, and don't mess with the source. At this point, you will see that there is no more political project in a GPL software than in Windows, OS X, or any other proprietary software you are using. Don't like GPLv3? GPLv2 is still there and you can still use it. The world is never going to be governed by the GPL. Bill Gates probably gives Windows for free to a friend or two. GPL developers give away their software to their thousand of friends accepting the license. But no one if forcing you to use either.
Gimme gimme gimme. I'm the only important person on the planet. Ok.
Seems a lot more like your attitude. You think your are more important than the others paying the same price for the same service, so think that your traffic should be prioritized.

Yeah, web "standards" such as iMessage and Facetime.
Thanks, that confirm what I thought.
I feel much better now that I know that my 22" monitor is retina too.

In that case a 40" 1080p HDTV must also be a retina display. Just sit far enough from it.

Android outsold iOS worldwide by 2:1 in Q4 2011, which was a record quarter for Apple with the iPhone 4S launch.

iOS, however, now sells more than Symbian for the first quarter in history.

Faire enough. As long as it is clear that it's nothing remotely close to the lock of an iPad, which requires jailbreaking.
Kindles do not need to be "unlocked" in order to install your own application.
From what I understand, Kindle Fires don't have the Android Market, but they can still install APKs from unknown source if you enable the option. So the computing freedom is there.
This Amazon CSR seems to confirm this.

iPhones still get higher carrier subsidy on average, given that a lot of lower end Androids get a much smaller subsidy.
iTunes alone is a sufficient reason for not using the iPhone. I prefer a phone that I can plug in any PC and copy files too. No software or drivers to install.
Also, just because there are cult-like elements in the GPL faction isn't a reason for not using the GPL.

Just what we need. A proprietary protocol that only works with devices from one vendor.

uh? So they throttle everything?
