well I have to jump on the Nex II bandwagon as well. It is a very good player. When I was looking for a good mp3 player, my main focus was a player that supported CF. So I went and picked up a RCA lyra. Well I have never seen such a piece of crap in my life. When I got that thing home I started vacuming my carpet with it, it sucked so bad. anyway, after talking with RCA (which has NO support BTW) and arguing with them over what an mp3 player was (the lyra does not play mp3's, plays mpx's that have to be converted. I returned it, and spend half the money on the NEX. This is an awsome little player. It does everything that I need it to and is fully linux compatiable. I love it. you can order directly from frontier labs, or from the place I got it from: www.mp3playerstore.com. Have fun!
Take a step back and look at the big picture. This guys is obviously still on M$'s payroll, and is lining up for a big security pitch to the gov't in a nutshell,.. Palladium. What better way to sell it to EVERYONE, than to have someone inside the gov't filling it up with FUD. And there u go, M$'s ace in the hole.
Well I actually do prefer to spell Micro$oft with a $ because the name "Microsoft" is trademarked, and I do not have permission to use it in this comment. So instead of interfering with their pissing grounds, I prefer to make an underlying statement when I address them.
Ransom gave this link for contributions from caldera: http://www.caldera.com/developers/community/contri b/
Lets take a look at these.
AIM benchmarks: Well if you are not satisfied with cat/proc/cpuinfo now you can clock your system with benchmarking software that caldera has provided for you.
Caldera Open Administrations System (COAS): these are supposed to be contributions to the entire linux community not a small crappy GPL'ed program they use to promote their own bastardized distro?
CScope: it is amazing how they take credit for this, as SCO (Santa Cruz Operation) released this openly before Caldera had anything to do with them
Java: Now you are taking credit for Java?!?!?
Linux Kernel: and I quote "Caldera has contributed several Linux kernel enhancements, including Windows support, IPX support, NFS, and more". Well I know that I have excellent "Windows" support in my linux kernel, how about you. It looks as if the ipx support is genuine, but NFS has been around longer than caldera.
Lizard: Yet another installation system. but this one seems to be very locked down, with not mention of OS licensing, or any available downloads. Again isn't this supposed to be contributions to the Linux community?
Netscape: Well sure you saved netscape! OS is the only thing that has saved netscape to this point.
NCPS for linux: more netware stuff. Well being that ransom did have a lot of dealings with novell, I guess contributing to this dying networking technology seemed like the right thing to do.
NKFS: yet more dying netware support.
OpenSLP: Well another BSD style license, for I program I'm sure everyone uses everyday.
RPM: quote: "Working with Red Hat, we developed the first package manager." BS! The first and best package management system was the good old tarball. RPM has cause me more trouble than it has avoided me.
Webmin: yet another BSD style licensed project "started" by caldera.
WordPerfect 6.0: Well thanks for paying for the copy of WP for linux that I also paid for. (someone made a lot of money off this deal). WP for linux was so bad I had to revert back to staroffice after using wp for a week. some things are best not shown as a badge of honor.
UDI: vaporware. looks like it was started back in 99, and 3 years later, it is still as un-heard of.
So what we have here, is some loose attachments to BSD style licenses, and a bunch of programs written for the dying netware protocols.
Ransom, look at what the linux community has actually DONE for you, such as what the foundation for your entire company is. and your ticked!!
This guy dosn't stop, so he must be stopped.
I think moby is just pissed that he can't make a decent song anymore. 18 sux. I can't think of a self respecting techie that would be caught dead listening to that shite. and he's probably ticked that eminem has more downloads on P2P networks than he does.
I am an avid linux supporter, use it daily, and have all kinds of stickers on my car. But what about turning the tables here. if linux were really in the position that microsoft was in right now. Well that could never really happen, being that linux is not a company and M$ is. but if linux grew so popular that everyone was using it, would anything really be any better. I don't really think so. The main thing that we are looking for her is freedom of choice, variety. We all want different things. but aside from any of this, what really scares me about this point, is that M$ is a company, an entity, and can be targeted as such, as it already has. But linux is not. We can almost make a comparison between napster and gnutella here. napster is one entity, and there in is it's fault, it can be tageted and taken down. gnutella not having a "single point of failure" will never be destroyed by other companies. Now just image if Microsoft had a linux model, how would we even hope to combat it then, or would we even bother to try.
not trolling, it was just an interesting thought I had, and wanted to share.
It will be very difficult to argue that source code is free speech, just because that is not it's primart purpose. I understand that art has been taken from many things, but it will be hard to understand for most. I think that arguing that source is speech will be a waste of time. However, what that source does is another story. (I know you know this but) code is a structure for describing how a computer should BEHAVE. and it is as simple as that. You run a program, and then you expect your computer to behave a certain way after typing in the command. The way the computer behaves while running this code is by the wishes of the author of the code. when the program runs it carries out the expression (speech) of the author following through with the whole free speech thing. Now this might not seem like a big differance to you, but most people do not understand this. Source code by itself can never be speech, because it is specifically designed to do 1 thing, make a computer understand what you want it to do. However a computer can carry out the instructions that comply with you wishes, making it a channel for your speech.
it really dosn't matter if the gov't taxes e-mail or not. why will anyone continue to use e-mail when there are free services out there like ICQ etc. etc. and there will be new technologies developed just to sidestep that anyway. there is no worry.
It really dosn't matter weather they tax e-mail or not, they will still get no taxes from it. how many people out there are going to be willing to use e-mail with a tax on it, when they can use ICQ or some other service for free. there will always be another technology to go to. the govt has not caught up with it citizens yet.
I know something that America loves to complain about more than fuel prices. Fat Americans. Get over yourself.
where you can get arrested for listening to music.
Is it just me, or has this gone too far. It's time to break out some good old vigilateism on these control freaks. Time to organize.

Correct, It's time to stop catering to the dumb user, and educate the public.
