Yeah, I do too. Unfortunately, taking the Geek tag seems to still label us as social misfits. I'm not the coolest guy I know by a long chalk, but I DJ parties all the time, and I have a good amount of friends, both male and female.
Who else here will stand up and shout "Yes I know a thing or two about computers! It doesn't make me some kind of lonely freak!"
Aside from the concerns about processor time, what about the actual functionality of this as an everyday OS?
I like having everything laid out so's I can get to it as quickly as possible when I'm working - these screenshots appear to consist of a big empty space with a small flashy menu cube in the middle.
I think this would get tiring after a while, particularly as you'd have to wade through the flashy anims to get to the menu option you need.
It's a nice idea, but if the screenshots are anything to go by, I won't be touching it.
Anyone else here remember Toys? In that film a crazy general had an army of brace-wearing kids using realistic flight sims to remote control real planes etc.
I would rather use another company's product than MS, but the Netscape broswer is a blatant ad vehicle for Netscape and AOL, there is too much clutter everywhere, and it's slow.
If people say what they think it doesn't constitute "bandwagon-jumping". I'm not asaulting Netscape - the old versions of Communicater etc were good, but this latest release is a joke.
Who's going to go for downloading the "alternative" browser, ie: netscape 6, when most pc users are already running the (i hate to say it) far superior IE5?
Although Linux does get a hell of a lot of coverage here, it doesn't mean that this place is soley for Torvalds Worship. What about Beos? The funny stuff? The MS ripping? The Amiga Vapourware? The space stories?
Slash is News for Nerds, Stuff that Matters. What matters to many here is Linux. But that doesn't mean this site exists just to promote Linux.
I don't think I'm going to bother reading Jon Katz anymore. His "stories" are in actual fact just visions of various sci-fi films all spliced together and pushed out of his mouth like some mad four legged sheep-goat trying to turn lead into people.
Jon, stop talking excitable bollocks and grow up, for christ's sake.
I was right!
So who is best, me or the linux geek that moderated me?
Me of course!
Hmm, how to rectify the situation . . .
Oh yes, the magic words! That'll at least get me +2 "funny"!
Here it comes;
"Imagine that as a Beowolf cluster!"

I personally found it really depressing. She's cute, and it pains me that there are NO good looking girl geeks in this country (the UK).
Prove me wrong! I'm begging you!

And Level 9 - all of that stuff was great. Did anyone here ever use GAC or Quill?
Also, are there any java-enabled Infocom games out there?

Just a thought.
Much to our eternal shame, we Brits actually invented concentration camps in the first place (colonising africa, etc).
:)
I don't know why I brought that up - guess I'm just not that patriotic.
I would now launch into a tirade against the germans, but that'd be a little too stereotypical, don't you think?
And incase you hadn't noticed - the queen actually has no real power - just far too much of our money.
Just my 2 pennies worth

For ease of use?
HELLO?!?
Eat the retard!
Burn the retard!
Sell the retard!
Long live the aubergine!
Don't waste your bandwidth then.
Get back to arse technica...
I guess we should be grateful that people as sensationalist and misinformed as Katz exist - otherwise we might unleash attacks on normal folk.
And that's why I like it.

Slashdot is bigger than that.

Pillock. Wonder why you didn't post under your real name?
As for the moderators, you can kiss my rosy red UK ass.
