And I'm supposed to envy this desk over my home-modded mid-tower? *cough*
There's a slight difference here. I can fit a full sized computer into mine just fine, not with just a limited selection of components. Not to mention I can also fit two 19" Sony CPD-G400's on my desk to boot!
Not to mention the looks, thanks who ever mirrored those two (forgot your name already:-\) On one hand I've got, good looking window that's suited to my tastes (I chose a Biohazard symbol) OR I can buy there desk and have.. uhmm.. four posts and a plastic top.
And, to top it all off, I modded my computer my self. Saved a bundle and turned out how I wanted. None of this Pcmods, thinkgeek, etc. pre-modded crap (I won't even mention the 3d people, they suck)
I titled my post Whore, because that's what I was doing. whoring my self out for karma.. heh. Slight risk, as I could've been spotted as a whore. But success was with me. +2! muwahah

(For once seriously consider AC as a posting option... bah, I can take it! Besides, I start at one, there for I can only loose one before I fall under radar!)
Why is it they never give me moderation points when good stories come along?
I'm a funny guy, I prefer to moderate when things are funny. Instead they give it to me when some company is fined millions involving thinks I don't know or care about.
Or when something scientific has happened over my head. I don't have a clue what's going on.
But this story, I see lots of moderation needing to be done here. "Who the fuck is John Remero?" +1 Interesting.
"Daikatana sucked!" +1 Insightfull
"I can't believe it's not butter" +1 Funny.
But for once, I find my self joining those usually modded down. This is news for nerds? Stuff that matters? Please.
I don't care if bill gates sells his wifes vibrator. I don't want to hear about it. We might as well start posting submissions for Penny Arcade.

Timmy_l33t was first in line this morning, with important news about penny arcade! Amazingly they've posted yet another comic, this one apperently asking/. to stop linking them, and that HomeLAN is considering cancelling there sponsorship, isn't that a hoot?
What the odds are of this resulting in a suicide...
If he does take this too seriously, as it seems he does. The odds of him getting employed with-out redicule in any tech savvy computer industry are greatly reduced.
All it will take is one slashdot reader/appropriate internet surfer with a decent memory to recall his name and make mention of it.
We've effectively killed his internet persona.
Name change maybe? heh.
With new computer hardware coming my way I've decided it's time to abandon the mp3 format in favor of Ogg. And thnkfully I've already got the tools on hand to make it easier.
http://admin.dbpoweramp.com/
db Power AMP is a handy tool I found in my quest for auto-mated audio conversion. I had a bunch of ASF files (no video) that I wanted to convert to Mp3. And I sure as hell didn't want to do it by hand, extracting a wav then reencoding it. So I went hnting and found that program. It doesn't do directories, but it DOES do playlists.
All I gotta do is wait for an Ogg made for db Power AMP and also wait for my new motherboard to arrive.
I'll be happily moving to a Tyan Thunder K7, with fond memories of my Abit KT7-RAID. But my old board will stick around long enough to play work horse.
I'll make a playlist in winamp with all 24 and a half gigabytes of mp3's, and let the box sit quietly while db Power AMP converts from mp3 to Ogg.
Oh! It does any and all available formats by the way, well practically all of them. you'll need specific codecs for conversion. They don't have one for RC3 yet. But I'm sure it's on the way.
I wonder what kind of an impact in-flight internet would have had on the september 11th events. Would suddenly eveery suspect on a plain be looked upon closer the moment some geek had stumbled upon it on the web? Perhaps could it have prevented the second, third, or fourth plain crashes?
I'm certain one plain destroying one building would have had a major impact, but less of one then three buildings hit and a handfull of dead hero's in PA.
What one needs to do, to motivate people into education, is write a virus using the standard Virus protocal distrobution methods (Outlook) which does the whole self spreading thing. You know, the same ole' shit, different package.
Except with this one you have it delete solitare....hell you could have it delete the SHORTCUT to the exe and it would cause people to stop and realize what the hell is going on.
"Oh no, I can't play solitare any more because of the virus!"
I'm glad to hear this as well.
When people say that wireless is a bust I look at them a bit funny and point at the Atenna on my roof.
It's quite a spectacular antenna sence my ISP up-graded it to a highly directional antenna, I was having connection problems which turned out to be software, so now I've got this wicked looking dish.
The only downside to the wireless in my area (Omak, Washington) is it isn't really a mobile solution. And I don't feal left out either, I would perhaps if I was in a larger town, Seattle for example.
There is no point at citysearch'ing for Omak, there's nothing to do any way. Bowling, WalMart? And one theater which often times is beat by the rental company for new movies sad isn't it?
Our wireless is provided by the local radiostation. It's a small 4-5 man operation. Rather pitiful. But I live.:)
Here's the thing though, same situation. It's a HD I'm hooking up to your standard 40 pin IDE setup.
The laptop wont power on any more, and to pay for repairs would be twice the cost of the laptop it's self at current prices, or so I assume. It's an old laptop.
So gutting the laptop, seeing what neat things I can salvage, and rescuing a laptop sized 500mb hd and it's data will be a good thing.
You're dealing with a non FAT(32/16)/NTFS partition in a windows enviroment?
I hate to be a question grubby whore... But your question has been answered, and sence we're all here I'd like to pick some minds;)
Same thing here really, 2.5" laptop HD. But out of a PowerBook 5300c. Any hints for a chubby computer use who hasn't had much cross-platform envolvement?
I'd love to recover the 16MB of porn, and some 4 year old emails off of the drive. But can't find a method to access the data. I already knew about the conversion kits.:)
Btw. laptop Hd's use the same number of pins as there larger brothers and sisters, plus four, for power.
The pinout is the same, but if I recall properly there is one pair of pins switched... Google is your friend. I hope I don't regret that by getting a link on google pointing to my solution, asuming any one bothers to help someone, in someone elses Ask slashdot.;)
Ask slashdot, Ask slashdotters, what's the difference?
Visit your local wood yard, pick up some 2x4's.
Visit your local hardware store, pick up appropriate screws etc.
Visit your local pro-audio store, purchase rack mount rail kits as needed.

Flame, troll, funny, I don't really care.
BeoWulf clusters aren't yet applicable for computer chess. At least not any typical player vs. player chess.
there isn't a, not that I know of, engine capable of harnasing a beowulf cluster. There are though several which are capable of mutlithreading.
The only beowulf engine in development, again that I know of, is by Hyatt. The creator of Crafty.
He's got a cluster of 10, Quad Xeon boxes at his disposal. Lucky man.

What the anon user forgot to tell us was, Gracenot won. Roxio is to be made bitch.
I'll whole heartedly admit this is a troll.
Last year my mom got me a Wearable wireless device. It was a sweater.
I really would have preferred a moaner or a screamer, but a sweater will do....
Actually if it stays up it's a miracle....
A rumor site, with video clips, with a slashdot posting?
That in and of it's self is a +1 Funny.
Yes, but what's the point of using one format when 99% of your collection is in another?
;p
that and i don't have access to a number of the CD's I originally ripped from... heh

That's cute.. Dell uses DVD drives which by-pass the copy protection...
If they enforce the DMCA on this, they can change there commercials..

Woo-dawgie. Imagine the router/switch boxes they'll come up with for this thing.
Ethernet, Copper, Power line, Phone line, Wireless, and fiber optics!

I'm glad to hear this as well.

Isn't what items are up for bid, but what's currenlty in the lead..
The Storm Trooper helm is currenlty recieving an 8,865$ bid. Where as the second Item is the Darth Maul stunt light-saber, weighing in at 5,101$
I'd rather have a stick I could swing around and hit people with, wrather then a helmet that's going to suffocate me.
Fortunately most people in a video game store are like 12, so I can destroy them with my mind bullets.
From 200 yards I assume? That's telekenisis!

Let us pretend I don't have a linux box up and running at the moment, which wouldn't be a lie.
Any thoughts then?
I may have another bit of inspiration though to put linux on this old comp I've got lyin around.
