Your view of humanity is somewhat naive
Some people understand only force
The best way to deal with a bully is to
apply a greater force,
make them into victims, that way they perhaps
learn something.
Perhaps you were watching some other Dune mini-series, than I was because the one I saw
totally sucked. Granted that is just my opnion,
But:
Casting was horrible.
Fremen did not seem water-lacking at all,
and looked like rubble as oppose to proud desert fighters that they are.
Chani looked like a porn star, which might not be
a bad thing, but its Dune damn it.
Sarduakar decided to dress up as French pastry chefs.
Urulan showed up in places, where she should not
have. (Atreides dinner party).
Stilgar, did not look like a leader of free men,
but rather just some slightly overweight dude.
Yueh came of as pathetic traitor, which was not
totally true.
Duke Leto looked bored the whole time.
Anyway, I think the original movie captures the
spirit of the book, though at times it very confusing, unless you read the book.
Whether, Judaism, Christainity and Islam
are violent or not is relative.
The point is that religion is a tool for
manipulation of masses,
whether it was the intention of its creators
from the beginnig I just don't know.
Anyway, perhaps I red Dune, one times too many
ok, I admit I did not read House Harkonnen,
but I read House Atreides.
The thing is, it lacks the depth of any of
the real Dune books.
As a stand alone adventure story it's ok,
but it's by no means in the same league as
the original books.
That said, I will probably read House Harkonnen,
for no other reason than to make another journey
into the Dune Universe.
