You cannot easily load *other* sources of applications, say though Google Store. You are locked into Amazon's app store.

Can you crack into them? Sure, but Amazon is free to not consider it a Kindle if you do that. You can load your developed applications? Sure. But from the perspective of the customer, the Kindle is not open.... To you? Do what you want, but Amazon doesn't take kindly to hacking the kindle (what ever that means).

I would only add that Operators MUST be non-commercial to be subject to your rules.

    Why?

Because commercial use of airspace is squarely in the FAA's wheelhouse. Conducting business in the air is what the FAA is about, and their primary focus. Hobby use of the airspace is something they won't care about if you are low enough and far enough away from people and structures.

But you are asking the wrong question.... What you should be asking is how should the regulations be different for the business?

I don't imagine that there would be much of a difference, mainly because I don't figure the FAA is going to care much if a business decides to fly under 400' away from populated areas, but it's likely going to limit the business usefulness in that case. I imagine that the business use of the airspace over populated areas is going to require licenses, inspections, minimum equipment features, and operating rules. But with that, businesses will get the privilege to work in areas that will be more profitable.

I'm not surprised. Face it, Ipads are EXPENSIVE toys for most people buying them. Yea, it runs IOS like a lot of phones, but at what price?

Amazon has been selling their Kindle devices for a LOT less, given what you get for for the money. I'm not a Kindle zealot (I hate that they are totally locked down) but Apple needs to face the fact that there are now other options out there that do just about everything that IPad can and they are cheaper. Add to that the large scale adoption of Android in both the handset and tablet market (including the Kindle, under the covers) and it is clear that Apple's dominance of this market is over. What can apple do? Add memory, processor speed, flash and battery life? Maybe higher resolution display hardware but what's that worth if you cannot really see a difference? Apple is about done with the tablet, unless they can innovate into something else, but what? Their run is over.

Who is surprised by this? Apple is getting its clock cleaned by Android, which is a trend I don't see changing. Not to mention that Microsoft is pushing pretty hard to stay relevant in the market. This is the problem with being in first place, everybody is gunning for you and it takes serious innovation to keep ahead of the pack. It may not be time to be short selling apple, but if I owned this stock, I would certainly have standing stop orders in place around any major scheduled press conferences.

Us RC hobbyists also don't fly above 500', over populated areas, in restricted airspace, or near airports... At least the RESPONSIBLE ones don't. This nutcase deserves to be accosted by the FAA, as well as the local police for being a public danger, not to mention the owners of the property he damaged. Have fun with your toys, but do it responsibly.

How does one test lethal injections?

You don't really have to test. It's pretty clear what you need to do and medically it's easy to cook up a way to do that using commonly available drugs. If you can induce unconsciousness, there is no pain. Then it's a question of how you want to induce death and what medication does that.

Or you can advertize for volunteers and actually test right?

EPIC FAILURE, but it wasn't really a failure of the drug mix. What we had was a failure of the delivery system and the process to deal with such failures. They won't make the same mistake again.

Besides, it's not as if this drug mix hasn't been used successfully before. It has. We know the mix works just fine, you just have to get it into the subject...

  8. Re:it wasn't botched on Oklahoma Botched an Execution With Untested Lethal Injection Drugs · · Score: 1

It was an execution that almost certainly violated the constitutional ban on cruel and unusual punishment.

The INTENT of the execution was NOT to cause him pain. The intent was to put him to sleep, then when he was unconscious, cause his death by medication. No pain is caused when this process works as designed. Had the IV not malfunctioned, or had they caught the fact that it had before they started the lethal part of the medication delivery, there would have been no pain caused.

The PROBLEM was that the IV they where using to deliver the medications blew out the vein and stopped working sometime after the sleeping medication was started. This only became apparent AFTER the medications used to cause his death had been delivered. This was an unfortunate accident.

This will and should cause a care examination of the process being used. They will make adjustments to avoid this problem in the future. But one thing is CLEAR, this was not because they where using some untested mix of medications or the wrong dosages. I'm guessing that from now on they will start two IV's and then be ready to keep the subject unconscious though either, while the lethal medications are administered.

Episode VII is the movie they should have made years ago. Instead, we got the godawful prequels and now all the original cast is a hundred years old and will be lucky to get through filming without needing paramedics standing by at all times.

Have you watched any Harrison Ford movie in the past 20 years where you thought he did a good job? I haven't.

I must disagree. Mr. Ford has played in a number of films where I thought he did an excellent job, even though the films where of marginal quality overall. His portrayal of Jack Ryan is pretty good and both of those movies are worth seeing. I thought "Six Days Seven Nights" was horrible as a movie, but Harrison Ford was good in it. "The Fugitive" is a really great film for him as was "Witness" and "Sabrina" and they are well worth seeing, but forget about "K-19", "Random hearts", and "Air Force One". "Regarding Henry" is interesting too if you get a chance.

Don't judge Harrison Ford by his "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones" characters which are both campy and unbelievable. But in both of these cases, remember that it's not about the characters in an action/adventure film anyway. It's about special effects and the action sequences. The characters are there to provide enough story to keep you engaged long enough to set up the next fight scene, car chase, gun fight or explosion.
