  1. Guilt-free conscious on Ask Slashdot: What's the Best Way To Deal With Roving TSA Teams? · · Score: 1

As a professional IT consultant, my experience as "Big Brother" (examining log files with/without the user's knowledge) may provide some insight for you: I would suggest that you just not be guilty of anything at all. Sooner or later, Congress will make progress and these people are going to become legitimate enforcers of the law so it is best to be friends with them now--lest they carry a black book to take down names (or an iPhone).

  2. Re:Hahaha on Ask Slashdot: Good Metrics For a Small IT Team? · · Score: 5, Insightful

As a professional IT consultant, I would concur with the parent statement.

Also, the title is a bit redundant: all IT teams are small.

  3. Re:Interesting... on Facebook Tells India It Won't Help Censor the Web · · Score: -1

I heartily object to what you are implying. As a professional IT consultant for an Indian firm, I must say that this is a big mistake by Facebook. By denying this request, Facebook risks being locked out the country with one of the largest percentage of internet users and deny the possibility of creating jobs for the Indian economy. Even RIM has acquiesced to the government's request so if Facebook does not want to be left out of the market, they will give in sooner or later. If you're not a terrorist, there is nothing to fear from this.

  4. Re:Silencing Dissent on India Moves To Censor Social Media · · Score: 2

As a professional IT consultant, I feel I must disagree with you.

You joke, but you bring up a serious point that supports the idea that America continues to be a world innovator--"silencing dissent", as you so aptly put it, just happens to be the next natural step toward technological progress. It is merely a step back in order to take take two steps forward; that is, if the American people wish it to be so. Many seem content with a "not in my backyard" philosophy.

I gladly welcome "this sort of shit" because "this sort of shit" needs IT to stay afloat while also bringing the general populace closer to their breaking point; maybe one day they'll come to their own senses of whether or not they enjoy freedoms when accessing networks.

On a personal note, it is nice to know that there will be need for people with my skills back home when I decide cease the extension of my H-1B. Any network blacklisting and censorship techniques that I learn will be good practice for when my home country follows in America's footsteps.

As a professional IT consultant, it's clear that you've never used NoScript for more than a few minutes if you're willing to stand by the claim, "NoScript equivalents are available".
