Jesus Christ, claimed to be God come to earth in human form. He did not come as a dog or monkey or any other animal. His claim to be God, if not true, is audacious craziness and gross blasphemy.
If you want to get to the moon, you cannot get there by jumping. You need a spaceship. If you want to get to heaven you need Jesus. Jesus claimed to be God. He claimed to be the exclusive path to God who dwells in heaven. He claimed to be THE truth and THE life. (John 14:6) The claims of Jesus are rather bold. If they are not true, then he would be a lunatic and/or the biggest fraud ever perpetrated on humanity. The key is that you and everyone else has to believe by faith that these claims are true. There is no intellectual or scientific exercise that can substitute for faith.
Are you not assuming, believing without evidence, that nature has always been from the beginning the way we see it today? What if something happened that threw a monkey wrench into the workings of nature in the distant past? By studying nature today, how could we ever find out if something like that indeed happened? What if there were fundamental discontinuities which modern science cannot cross?
The Bible teaches that death and everything that brings with it came into the world because the first human did not believe what his Creator had said to him. A world without the death, which is a form of entropy, it is hard for us to imagine. No one, including any scientists can really cross the divide that death brought into the world. The central truth of the Bible is that God, in the form of Jesus Christ became a man in order to reverse the death in humans and all of nature eventually. The conquering of death is a concept that cannot be explored by science or human reason, but must be believed by faith. Anybody who cannot be killed, is for that reason alone the most powerful person that exists. Jesus Christ physically conquered death and is now alive in dimensions beyond time and space.
At some point in the not too distant future, he will physically reenter our time dimensions to take over the government of earth. Humans have failed to govern themselves, but have been at constant war with one another. Humans will unite to fight a final war in order to try to kill the One who cannot be killed. This is the war of Armageddon, the last war of God hating humanity.
God isn't the laws, but the maker of the laws, just like an earthly legislature isn't the law, but makes them. That is why there are lobbyists. Lobbying God is called prayer. Prayer, like lobbying works. The main difference is that God can't be bribed like our politicians.
You might have added that the laws that science studies come from the mind of an immutable and eternal God. Since you know something about law, you certainly understand that all laws originate in a mind of one or more persons. The “laws of nature” came from a supreme mind, the mind of God. Therefore God who is real must be a person and this is exactly what is taught in the Bible.
If you were able to teleport yourself back in time to say the the time of Jesus Christ, along with some of our modern technology, much if not all of that technology would be considered magic and you would be considered to be a sorcerer that needs to be burned at the stake or you would be considered a god to be worshiped. Jesus claimed to be God come to earth. He gave evidence of the truth of this claim by demonstrating knowledge and ability that goes far beyond even our present technology and knowledge.
He hated religion and was finally put to death at the instigation of the religious powers of the day. The ultimate and final demonstration of the truth of his claim to deity was that he did not stay dead. Someone who can no longer be killed, because he has conquered death, is more powerful than any other human power and all other human powers put together. None of this has anything to do with religion, but ultimate reality, which includes science but goes far beyond it. Science and the scientific method is only a small subset of feeble human efforts to determine what is real.
While there may be some conservatives that subscribe to the idea of relativism in morals, I would be hard-pressed to name a liberal university or college that does NOT subscribe to the idea that there are no absolutes in morals. It is liberal groups like the ACLU that litigate against displaying absolute moral codes such as the 10 Commandments. I have never heard of a conservative group agitate against moral absolutes like that.
That said, you are right, our culture as a whole has lost its moral compass. The 10 Commandments have now become 10 suggestions. It is now unfortunately true, that the majority of the people don't care anymore, at least to the point of doing something about it, to call our leaders in government and in other institutions to task for lying and cheating. If university presidents and politicians were thrown out of their jobs, when lying and cheating and when other unethical activities take place which they could've stopped, then whose fault is that?
The theory of evolution has no place for moral absolutes. It is strictly the survival of the fittest. You are indeed right, those that can lie and cheat and do other wrong things and get away with it do win and survive. Fortunately there still is justice in the universe. Everybody will one day stand before the Creator God of the universe and give an accounting of how they have lived here on earth.
Liberal universities such as Harvard have taught their students for a long time that there are no absolutes. What makes you think that what you believe is right or wrong is what someone else believes is right and wrong? When a ship's captain throws the compass overboard, that ship is very likely to get lost and end up on the rocks somewhere. Our nation and many of these liberal universities were founded on the moral compass provided by the God of the Bible. That has all been thrown out and replaced with relativism. In light of that, who do you think you or anybody else think they are, to say that cheating is wrong, especially if it gets the desired results for the cheaters? Our government and its politicians only reflect our culture that has lost its moral compass.
If you had read my post carefully you might have noticed that I said "Any weapon that could be carried in the arms of a soldier, could also be in the arms of a civilian". There was a shortage of weapons in the Revolutionary Army. Therefore many civilians brought their own rifles which they had used for hunting. The British claimed that the Americans were fighting unfair because they didn't only use muskets but the more accurate rifles. Basically my point is that any weapon an infantryman can carry, is also allowed to be carried by the individual private citizens, according to the Second Amendment.
When the Constitution was written, after the Revolutionary war, there was no difference between military weapons and those weapons among the civilian population. Any weapon that could be carried in the arms of a soldier, could also be carried in the arms of a civilian. The operative phrase in the Second Amendment is: “the right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed”. It is the God-given right of individuals to defend themselves. Animals are given claws and teeth for this purpose. Better weapons technology today does not change the Constitution.
Any restriction of this principle is null and void. Politicians, law enforcement officers and the judges of the Supreme Court as well as all military personnel take an oath to uphold the Constitution. Anyone that violates that oath is breaking the supreme law of the land. Until we the people amend the Constitution, that is the law. Any “law” contrary to that is passed by any political body is null and void.
It is instructive to understand that the Nazis did not use the military, at least initially to round up Jews and other “undesirables” to put into concentration camps. They hired common criminals, gave them a uniform and a gun and told them to go out in the middle of the night to round up certain people who were defenseless. If those people they rounded up had the same kind of weapons that the Nazis gave to their goons, that would've never happened. I suspect that in the US, a significant fraction of the military would be loyal to the Constitution and ignore any commands from the political elites to murder their American friends and relatives wholesale. The DHS may be called upon to do what the brownshirts did for the Nazis. An armed populace against those guys will be quite effective to slow them down dramatically. The military not so much.
All of the alphabet soup of modern weapons is totally irrelevant. When the Constitution was written, there was absolutely no difference between weapons carried by Army infantryman and the weapons owned by the common civilians. The colonial army had a shortage of weapons. Therefore many civilians who joined the military, brought their own weapons, which had generally been used for hunting before the Revolutionary war. The British even accused the Americans of unfair fighting, because they used the more accurate rifles, rather than the old muskets the British had.
How is something like fingerprints, a voiceprint or an iris scan different than a token or key? Just because the former are built in to your body, does not make them fundamentally different. They do have the advantage of not easily getting lost or stolen, but there have been reports of fakery even in those things. Additionally, once those biometrics are compromised, how are you going to fix that? Get new fingers or eyes?
So what is new here since medieval times? Security based on either something you have or something you know. Whatever you have can be taken from you or lost and what ever you know can be forgotten or you can be tricked into revealing the secret. So far, these 2 security mechanisms are still the only ones available. There has always been and there will always be an inherent tension between good security and easy access. A bank vault combination is quite secure, but would you want to have to dial that every time you want to go into your house?
The facts are that things are not always in a continuum. The Earth's history shows that there have been large extinction events. Such events cannot be predicted by men, but they do happen. The dinosaurs are no more. It is possible, that such an unpredictable extinction event will occur, perhaps in our lifetime. Human beings are singularly bad at predicting the future. The Mayans 21 December 2012 date came and went. Jesus Christ however claimed to be God. As such he seems to have a much better prediction ability than mere humans.
Jesus Christ predicts that there will be a time of such great trouble on the earth, that if there were no divine intervention, life would be exterminated on this planet. He predicts that this time of trouble will be preceded by natural disasters and omens in the heavens. The earthquake frequency curve presented on this website lends credence to Jesus prediction.
The record-setting heat and cold as well as super powerful storms, breaking all known weather records, is another indication that the prediction of Jesus are right on target.
The sun and the moon move through the heavens like clockwork. Modern computers have been able to calculate the positions of these heavenly bodies with great precision. The Bible predicts that there would be signs in the heavens, before the return of Jesus Christ, especially in conjunction with the ancient feast days of Israel. Some strange "coincidences" may be noted. First, the occurrence of these astronomical events on the Feast Days or high Holy Days of Israel speak uniquely of God's fore-planning. I say this advisedly because of the rarity of these events. Something that is already rare astronomically is for 4 full Lunar eclipses to occur in succession. Usually, many partial eclipses occur between the times of total Lunar eclipses. For 4 totals to occur in a row is remarkable astronomically. However, even more remarkable is for such a tetrad of eclipses to occur on Jewish feast days.
The tetrad only occurred once in the last century. Those occasions were in 1967 and 1968 when 4 total Lunar eclipses occurred in succession on Passover April 24th 1967, and Tabernacles October 18th 1967; then Passover April 13th 1968, and Tabernacles October 6th 1968. The point that is of interest in this connection is that the tetrad of Lunar eclipses in the 20th century surrounded the return of the Old City of Jerusalem to Jewish control on 7th June 1967. There were no tetrads in the 1800's or the 1700's or the 1600's. Total Solar eclipses are similarly rare. It is even rarer for there to be two total Solar eclipses in one year. In 1967, there were two, namely on 9th May and 2nd November. When Solar events like this are linked with Lunar events, the chance of this happening is incredibly low.
There is a tetrad of total Lunar eclipses starting Passover April 15th 2014, followed by Tabernacles October 8th 2014; then Passover April 4th 2015 with Tabernacles 28th September 2015. However, the total Solar eclipses also feed into this. The first total Solar eclipse being 1st Nisan March 20th 2015, and Rosh Hashanah September 14th 2015. So there is a culmination of significant astronomical events in September 2015 with a total Solar eclipse at Rosh Hashanah just a few days before the key day of Atonement September 23rd, and followed a few days after by a total Lunar eclipse at the Feast of Tabernacles.
What significant event do these signs in the heavens predict? Are we living at the end of history as we have known it? Is God about to intervene in the affairs of men? I have presented some evidence that this may be the case. The eclipse data can be verified on NASA's website.
Centuries ago, the apostle Peter warned in 2 Peter 3:3, that especially in the last days there would be scoffers espousing uniformitarian so-called scientific theories that preclude discontinuities in nature and human history. The world will not end in the sense that it will cease to exist anytime soon, but when death comes to a nation or an individual, it ends right then. Death is the common denominator in this world for ending things. When you die, the world ends for you.
If the government had to abide by the same constraints of income and expenditures as the average American worker, there would be no national debt. When such a worker goes to his boss and ask for a raise, the boss usually laughs and then says no. Therefore, in order to balance the household budget expenditures must be cut. Since the government does not go to prison when printing money, it is under no constraint to reduce expenditures. It is the crushing debt that will bring on the demise of the United States and many other countries. In ancient Israel, God told them that all debts must be canceled on a regular basis, every 49 years. This seems to be a natural economic cycle, much like cycles in nature such as the solar cycle for example. Since modern economies do not cancel debts, there will be a catastrophic economic collapse worldwide. Out of the ashes of the world economies and the turmoil in the Middle East and its oil resources, the New World order, a world government will arise. This was predicted by the prophet Daniel in the Bible thousands of years ago. It appears that this likely will happen well within the lifetime of most people on this planet right now. Global warming, whether human caused or not, will be a significant contributor to the establishment of a dictatorial one world government.
In this day and age of computers and apps in phones, what is the big deal? To convert furlongs per fortnight into kilometers per hour and back, is easy nowadays. As they say, there is an app for that!
When Canada switched from gallons to liters, the price of fuel was immediately increased. Most Canadians however never realized that. The same was for the price of many groceries, such as meat. If the US switched, many businesses would also take that as an opportunity to charge more for basic commodities.
I have a few Windows programs that will not run on a Mac. Because Mac are much less likely to get infected by malware, I use it for all activity that requires Internet. For this reason I run Windows in a VM on a Mac. That VM has no network access of any kind. This way I don't have to worry about nasty stuff in my computer. Because Microsoft offered a Windows 8 license rather inexpensively, I have installed one in a VM on my Mac, just to see what all the fuss was about. The old software I run on my normal VM works under XP, which would be get infected in no time flat, if it had a connection to the Internet. The data that old program works with is in a folder on the Mac side. That way it gets backed up by Time Machine.
This is exactly what Apple has done with gatekeeper in their current OSX. Users can choose 3 levels of software protection. The strictest is only to run software from the Apple store which all has a code signature key. After that level comes a restriction to run only software from trusted developers that have been issued a signature key by Apple. The final level is no restriction at all, were all software including Trojans and viruses are allowed. The default is the middle level. All iDevices from Apple are restricted to the highest level, namely only software from the Apple Store is allowed. This is a restriction which some techies consider severe, but ordinary users are perfectly happy with Apple's walled garden. This approach of Apple for security seems to work better than all A/V software combined. There have been no viruses or Trojans for iDevices.
