The funny thing is that Dell have the upper hand. I mean, can Microsoft retaliate now that they HAVE to promote Vista?
I don't think so.
It wouldn't be strange actually for Microsoft to lower the price of Vista if that (and not the OSS philosophy) is the reason why people are going to buy Linux systems.
mmm.... you have to think if that reasoning applies to the Xbox. After all it's not like I need the XBox to run Word...
Game console dinamics are very diferent from PCs. Games titles and product branding are the key, and Sony and Nintendo have HUGE experience in this areas, and rememeber... there's no third place in console bussines.
Bill and Co. have a lot of money to keep playing... until when?
Unix isn't slow in adopting new technologies. I think it's faster. The real diference is that Unix adopt new technology when it's necesary, instead of marketing reasons. Do I have to say XML?
Let's be honest, creativity doesn't sell products. I really think that linux itself has more creativity that all Redmond togeter. The thing is that, in order to make people use Linux it has to be compatible with the "establishment". It doesn't matter if we have to copy-cat Windows to do that, I mean, that was not what MS do with apple in late 80's. please!
Forget the hype. What is your project oriented to?
* Assembly: Hardware programming. Embedded devices and stuff.
* C: OS level programming. *Eficient* GUI apps and OS drivers.
* C++: Big OS level app and *big* apps: Word, Excel, and alikes
* Java: Network and server programming. Web apps and distribuited systems.
* Perl: Text procesing apps. System reports and stuff.
* C#: Java clone ( no WORA )
This is another expresion of the originality of Icaza. GNOME was a complete failure. Poor APIs, poor performance, and the new.NET startegy is like the confirmation of that. Icaza want to make the billonare Bill dirty work. It's sad, because one of the things I like about linux it's that, thanks to GPL everithing ends within the community, now the question is: how much of this.NET madness will belong to linux?
MS would like you to think that CLR would bring.NET to other plataforms. But think again. Where are the libraries that binds OS resources to your apps?. That's the real "meat" of having a plataform. Expect CLR ports to Linux and stuff but it would be so incomplete and broken that it would seen like a second class.NET -- And MS would love that. ( Want first class.NET ? - Buy Windows ). I love MS marketing...
I'm a full java developer. We ( my java dev team ) tried several java IDEs for a long time. And we sticked to JEdit for performance reasons. It's not an IDE, but it's the best programmer-oriented editor I have worked with to date; All java IDES we tried ( Borland's JBuilder, Oracle's JDeveloper and SUNs netbeans ) were so big and dogslow that we prefer the little and cute JEdit. Recently I began to work with IBM's eclipse, and now I am totally adicted to it. It's fast and confortable to work with ( good debugger and have intellysense-like functionality ). The windows versions feels like it was made by MS, but the linux version it's still slow (but workable) and feels horrible under it's patetic motif skin. I hope the IBM guys write the KDE port soon. If you think that MS were demanded by Sun for trying to make a native extension of java, it's so ironic to see IBM doing the same thing and make everyone happy;-)
I think this a really great oportunity to show many points of view that DoJ didn't. It's there a web site dedicated to this matter?. If not, there is a posibility that this iniciative gets buried just as another slashdot material.
Good point's there. Java server programing it's fun!. For one reason MS ripped the concept of Java with C-sharp (the language) and.NET (JVM). The only problem left is JVM's memory footprint. If you Have less then 128 MB don't use java, would be a pain in the a**.
Java Rocks!!!
For years I have fantasied about a perfect cast for Cowboy Beebop. What about this:
Spike: Lenardo DiCaprio
Faye: Jennifer Aniston
Jet: Jack Nicholson
Ed: Ellen Page
I don't think so.

Is .NET better than Java ... probably. But you forgot its Win 32 only ... Just like Visual Basic 1.0
Twice as hard to sell?

1. Print your page with a standard Postcript driver. .ps to .pdf
2. Use Ghostview to convert that
3. Use acrobat reader for Palm OS and enjoy the page!

MS has posted an official patch for this virus?
No ISO for i386?. I Just don't have the time to install it this way.
Hi wish I could say something about Suse Linux. So bad they don't have a downlodable version. :-(

- just my 2 cents.

Thanks Amigo!
Any one knows how to get a copy of these shorts in my hard drive?. Would be nice if I can add them to my multimedia collection.
