  1. Convenient excuse, but false on Dear Microsoft Windows ... · · Score: 2, Interesting

Microsoft was consumed by a rush to market. They did not 'deliberately' design software that is insecure. What they did do, is design software with very little thought about security (or stability). Getting their product to market, addicting the public on their products, and increasing their stock was the number one priority. Unlike other companies (like Apple), they chose the path of getting as many copies of their software into the consumer market as fast as possible, instead of making really good and stable products. While many of us don't like what they did, they did 'succeed'. They have an incredibly dominant market and the corporate and consumer world is basically addicted to them.

The bottom line is that they achieved their goals. They got rich. They have convinced the corporate and consumer world (in general) that there simply in no viable alternative to MS Office or the MS OS's.

It's a dilemma... what would you do given the chance? Take the high road and only produce quality software that takes a lot of time and effort (and possible fail as a company)-- or grab the opportunity when you can to make a ton of cash and get huge?

I don't like what MS did, but I understand it.

Ah, but they are an innovator. Not only with software, but certainly with hardware also. I suppose your definition of a reputable innovator is one that only comes up totally original ideas? Please.

Whiners? Whiners? Isn't this the context of this very thread, you idiot? The original post was a whine, and I'm posting my opinion. Go figure.

As far as Microsoft is concerned, I don't bitch when they come out with new features for the OS or other software that *resembles* software that is already out there. I welcome it. Nothing drives innovation like competition.

Did you ever hear of a patent?

If this software is truly innovative and original, it should be patented and protected. If it is, and Apple (or anyone else) copies it in such a way that violates the specifications of the patent, then you actually have a foot to stand on when you whine about software plagiarism and they can do something about it.

Really, is every piece of software on an OS suppose to be a totally original idea? Where would Linux be if that was true? Almost everything on Linux is a copy of (or inspired by) something else that was out there on another OS. The same can be said for most bundled software on all OS's. Their original ideas started somewhere else and someone on the product management team decided it would be benificial for the users of the OS to have these types of products readily available.

I'm not even going to get into how all of the products you mentioned are actually inspired by some OTHER product that exists (or DID exist at some time).

It is kind of hard to get a feel for the capabilities and price when the SimDesk site doesn't have any evaluation downloads, concrete price statements, or 'bigger than thumbnail' screenshots.

Am I just not finding the needle in the haystack here or is this information available elsewhere? I'm hoping there is no need to contact them directly to get this information.

SimDesk's site statement 'Start here. Go anywhere.' didn't seem to apply to me when I was looking for this info.. I 'Got nowhere'!
