"Environmentalists say the chamber's strategy is an attempt to sow political discord by challenging settled science â" and note that in the famed 1925 Scopes trial"
Arrogance, hubris, contempt. I am appalled at what passes for science these days (or maybe that should be 'science journalism')
I bet you heard the same reasoning used to defend this theory:
At what point will everyone realize how silly all these imaginary mathematical constructs are?
Gravity waves do not exist, strings do not exist, dark matter/energy does not exist, redshift does not = distance, black holes do not exist and the sun is EXTERNALLY powered.
... let's see if you're interested in lecturing me or having a discussion
>>"First, redshifting is not about distance, it's about how fast things are moving away from you" it would take me too long to reply to that statement
>>"Second, light waves don't stretch out as they age, so age isn't really at issue here either" not what I meant
>>(your) "if and only if" (meme) I think I have a firm grasp on causative associations of the standard model; I stand by that statement
>>" Don't worry, it's a common mistake among people who haven't actually studied reasoning, logic, mathematics, or computer science " I'm pretty used to this type of brow-beating. Question: Does that imply (that) because I am a programmer and Carl Popper is one of the people I most admire that I'm am idiot? (it's ok, I won't be offended if that's where you were going)
So the question remains - are you really interested in discussing this? I'll do it here, in email, on the phone, or in person.
>> "but when a prediction made by the theory fails to pan out, it needs to be explained"
yea, you'd think; maybe they'll make up something else that has the EXACT properties to fit their equations.
I think 'frozen' magnetic fields are my favorite so far, but the 'dark' brothers are pretty loony too.
There's this guy who won a Nobel (~1970 or so), his last name is Arp, he's got some ideas (well, he did whe he was alive) that don't involve 'dark'|'frozen' anythings and (wait for it) are predictive! (hint: a good place to start would be how redshift is defined)
I agree copyright is broken - getting longer instead of shorter, subverting fair use, protecting old buisiness models from K St. (that's where the lobbyist live kids) and patents are severly abused (show me the source, maybe?) but give me a break.
and I resent being lumped in with those religious [people].. I'm a liberal/libertarian (maybe vis-versa, I dunno) who happens to think that those systems can and will be fixed (sooner or later)
I read everything I can get my hands on concerning 'global warming' and I'm convinced - absolutely, positively, 100%, convinced that nobody should be (even close to) convinced that anthropogenic global warming is real.
Too many people - not enough people, big chill - it's gonna be an oven, not enough oil - plenty of oil, on and on and on....
Remember, all scientist get funding from someone they have to 'agree' with, not just the ones (someone) happens to disagree with - that knife cuts both ways.
If it is your conclusion that my previous post reflects how _I_ will treat my future employees you are mistaken. But they will know that's how I feel about it, when it's all said and done, as is said, before they work one (wonderful:-) minute for me.
I wonder how one screens applicants to avoid hiring people like Steve here in the first place? One day I will have my own business and there's no way I want some judge telling me I have to provide soft toilet paper to my employees because I'm a pain in the ass.
My response to the original post is I'd bet unless you have a contract (... I'm skipping a lot here...) he could pay you 1/2 your salary starting tomorrow (at which point you should probably quit) and demand you have a cell phone he can call 24/7. That's the way I understand the laws here in Tennessee; I grew-up elsewhere and it seems to me it was different there, so it probably varies by state - but they're all moving that way. Remember, a job is not a right.
(back to Steve)... and if you unionized on me I'd fold the business and start over - parasite
>>Caution is appropriate here
No, it's really not needed at all.
The precautionary principle is awful, no matter how eloquent its proponents are.
>There's still hope, isn't there? That we can at least get this stuff labeled properly?
It already is - and your tinfoil is showing.
>"This is how science works: based on past observations, you construct a theory of how things should work."
I don't think you've been paying attention to what 'they' have actually been doing lately.
The correct version of that assertion would be followed by:
And when it does not fit, adjust the math, invent something undetectable, and hope nobody connects the dots
same thing
:-)
That was my first thought too
It's a baby!
I wonder if [big round celestial bodies] have a 'sex'? Probably, though I have no idea how to tell. .. I'm not being sarcastic folks, it's new, really.
heh
I've got some homework for you:
Look up irrational.

Al Gore isn't a scientist

Eddington was wrong.

I assume Prof. Popper would approve.
give up on copyright - heh, patents too, eh?

headphone to rca adapter cable ($10)
record your line in - you can use EAC, it's free, to seperate the songs
problem solved (most of you have more than one box anyway)
I really don't think this is a cynical statement:
Know where K St. is? The labels do and as long as it exists they have no reason to innovate
