  1. One guy posted a lot more E2K info to slashdot! on More on the Russian E2K · · Score: 1

    Where is it?

In short words, E2K is very different from other CPUs on the market. The other part of the core technology is a heavily optimizing compiler, which Elbrus people were developing for something like 10 years.

Also what is interesting E2K will both interpretate & recompile IA32 programs (unlike Merced), putting them in E2K form back to the disk. Dont ask me how. Also UltraSparc CPU was developed with help of Babayan team, and in general his company has done a lot of work for Sun. Now they are maintaining SunOS, for example.

Great that you have done it.

I understand Russian and was pretty excited after reading all these articles, but I'm not well at making translations :-)

If I won't see your article posted on slashdot RSN, I'll write them as well reminding them about it. ;)

  3. Further E2K info on G4, PIII & E2K Compared · · Score: 1

If anyone is interested, there is a big interview with Babayan (where he also speaks about Merced technology, future of the CPUs etc) about E2K at

    and http://www.osp.ru/cw/1998/03/business/05.htm

    Anyone cares to translate?

  4. Now I know what Russian Military used on Russian E2k CPU at 135 SPECint95 / 350 SPECfp95 ??? · · Score: 1

I've always knew that military didn't use the crap stolen by KGB from West (i.e. OS/360, VAX clones)...

Now I at least know the name :-)

If the soviet government wasn't so paranoid about their military technologies we could really have another Silicon Valley now..

  5. no problem on Ask Slashdot: Audio/Video Networking Solutions for Linux? · · Score: 1

Considering the amount of money you are going to spend on all your audio/video stuff, I think hiring a Linux hacker to write all the needed software wouldn't hurt your pocket much ;-)

  6. Nice. on FreeBSD 3.1 Released · · Score: 1

After installing a 2.2 on one of my systems, I was somewhat disappointed by the number of inconviences it introduced in the networking area, like no aliased interfaces in "route" and ipchains do not support interface IP numbers.
Also, 2.2 sometimes sort of blocked.. although I must admit it is much faster under HDD load.

Maybe its time to try one of the *BSDs again... Do *BSDs support routing by source/TOS/port well? portfw? Whats the packaging system used - is it as easy to use as RPMs/DEBs, i.e. dependencies, checkable PGP-signatures on packages (for automatic upgrades) and so on..

I always thought that the real reason of guys shutting down the UltraHLE site was that they realized the potential threat from Nintendo. They have Connectix as an example already.
