Sorry Im so late on this.. and I'm sure that it won't be read... however... I use 2 hands to type. So even if CTRL+Q actually WORKED in Windows, I would be nothing to use my right pinky and left ring finger to do this. Personally, I think that closing an application should not be a super simple thing to do, just so that I have to think about it. ALT-F4 is fine for this purpose. Again, as a two handed typist, it takes minimal strain and it gives a sense of proactive effort akin to the feeling of turning off an appliance.

Your whole "hands flying across the keyboard diatribe" is no news to a Windows user who knows the interface. I personally have found much more utility out of the Window key than I have the Apple key.

Lastly, if you think that using a Linux Athlon box qualifies your remarks. I'm sorry to tell you but your CTRL-Q statement removes any credibility that this may have lent and then some. Call ME when you know what you're talking about.

Though it would have been nice to see the Kansas Board of Education overturn their decision on the discovery of the human Genome, it appears as if the change was fundamentally political:
"The 7-3 decision came after November elections that saw three board members ousted after voting to remove Charles Darwin's theory of mankind's origin from public school science standards and allowing alternative theories to be taught."
Though I personally think that evolution is the most likely of the origin theories, I don't really see a problem with allwing other theories to be presented as long as there is proper evidence presented (which pretty much wipes out biblical creationism). I also am a little skeptical is the absolute nature of this analysis of the human genome. Maybe because the religious leaders (the creators of the field) haven't used their "anointed" spin cycled in gear on it yet.

But maybe it could be because they can't spin it...

I would hardly call the MacOS interface "elegant," but I do like Be. Call me when Apple stops sticking all of their menus at the top of the screen and then we can talk about elegant. "Unwieldy" comes to mind in its current state.

Of course this is all IMHO

When I was 15, somebody called the cops on me and my friend when we were shooting a bb / dart gun at a target (that came with the gun) in a clearing at the corner of my neighborhood recreation center. The police officer pulled up and drew his gun on us. I dropped the gun (which he would later say in his report "looked like a real .45") as soon as he pulled up, but he was so convinced that we were armed (when our hands were up in the air) that he felt it neccessary to walk toward us yelling for us to drop the weapon. His gun was 2 inches from the bridge of my nose when another cop pulled up. He put down his gun but I was scared shitless. Buy hey... I'm a black male... just another day in the suburbs... X

Ummmm... The Netscape 6 Java engine is designed by SUN Microsystems. You know... the guys that created Java? Any applet that doesn't run correctly under that VM is not correctly coded. And let me put my hands up as somebody who has had IE take up to 40 MB of RAM on my computer. NS6 has gotten upward to 70 though. Also, as we all know, NS6 is a beta program. When Mozilla 1.0 hits, then you'll be able to complain about the codebase. For now though (I don't care what the NS browser version number is), you're not talking about gold code.

Ha... IE crashes 80% of the time when I get more than 5 windows open. I use nothing but Win2K at work, both home comps, and my laptop. I keep minimal software on my comps as well. This adds up to at least one crash today (3 today ironically).

I think that he's talking about stuff like the old Microsoft "inbox" and MSN which used to be very hard to get rid of. They aren't anymore... but under Win95 they were a pain.
