After I post it occured to me that maybe I didn't understand what he was saying, so when I got home I looked it up in my copy of Cyclopedia of Engineering, cr 1912, boy would you love those books! Why didn't you go with a 120 VDC system, 5 more batteries would get you there, less current, less IR loses, easier to hook-up a couple light bulbs ect.?
We mount the stator so there's about a 3/32" gap between it and the back magnet rotor. I'm not an engineer but 6/32 of an inch in a 1.5 KW alternator don't seem outragious to me; in fact considering the construction techniques, they're probably push the tolerance limits. 32, 12.1K Gauss magnet does seem excessive, but they probably chose them for their shape rather than their strength.
for even colder, check out colder. Also you could aways dump the waste heat into the ground water, and pull it back out in the winter geo-thermaly.
Seems like you could do a small scale proof-of-concept pretty easily especialy if the desired effect is more for reducing temp peaks in mid afternoon rather than making the house an ice box
That's just too funny, I think you deserve extra karma for making a tim taylor' nutsack joke in a thread about a DIY project involving 32, 12,100 guass magnets placed only 2 sctotum skin's thickness apart!
The point is that the executable generated by the compiler for -686 w/o any MMX or SSE will execute different sections of machine code based solely on whether it's being executed by a pentium pro or an AMD such as if "Genuine Intel" move double word once, else move byte 4 times. if Intel is moving double words 25% faster than AMD good for them but they are saying we move faster than amd, but they are really comparing one double word move to 4 interations of a byte move on the AMD. I'm fine with one chip's pipeline being more efficient, or out-of-order algorythms being better or worst, that's honest competition
So your saying that if I'm shooting a tv commercial for volkswagon showing a 1600cc Volkswagon beetle racing a Porche 951, it would be OK to put restricter plates in the porche induction system and mixing 25% kerosene in the Porche's fuel because i wouldn't expect the Volkswagon people to understand the inner working of the Porche even though both designs are dirived from the same gut Herr Doctor Porche?
I would expect that if I compile code for a target machine of -686, that the same code path would be followed on any 686 class cpu. differences between mmx, sse, and 3dnow are to be expected but not generic 686 code
If the Intel compiler compiled code specificaly optimized to run faster on Intel chips, using specific intel features not found in amd chips, it wouldn't be a problem, they would be competeing on technical superiority of the Intel optimizations as appossed the code for generic x86. What the claim seems to be saying is that if the Intel compiled code detects a non-"Genuine Intel" chip, the resulting generic code path is purposely engineered to run slower than would be expected of generic x86 code. The machine code for a -386 should follow the same code path if running on a -386, a pentium, athlon or a Opteron. If the code -386 executes a different path based on if its running on a pentium or an athlon/Opteron then obviously it's not -386 code! The real test would be to compile a program with the Intel compiler, flagged to generate no Intel specific code optimization, -386 code, then run the code on an AMD chip that reported "Genuine AMD" and an AMD chip specificaly burned to report "Genuine Intel" to the code checks and see if the two identical processors run the same code paths at the same speeds. If they are different then Intel has been a bit naughty, there is a difference between optimizing code for an architecture, and sabotaging code for an architcture.
China is a country run by a dictatorship Of course it is; isn't that what Marx porposed would get countries through the difficult transition period on the way to achieve a true socialist utopia?
No communist would want to be a good capitalist. Of course they would; who owns the capital doesn't negate it's existance. If a communist government were filled with good capitalists, it would maximise everbodies ability to produce, to fulfill the needs of the collective whole.
Communism isn't an inherently bad thing(tm), it's just that it runs so counter to Human nature; when you take "from each according to his ability and give to each according to his need" people tend to lie about their need and perform less than they are able.
Evil is a concept that's hard for bussiness because it's a value judgement, what is evil varies greatly between cultures, and even subcultures and ethnic groups residing inside one country.
Here's a catch-22 for you, in a world where 65 thousand starve to death daily, isn't place artificial limits on agricultural production evil(TM)? Of course it is, but is it anymore evil(TM) than sending food which would subsidize a system that alows people to starve to death in the first place?
I usualy try to avoid posting to enviromental thread because my views usualy gets modded into oblivian, but here goes, 1. They are using petroleum now just because it's convienant; any organic chemical could be used anything from methane to shredded newspaper and municiple waste will work, actualy a company named Changing World Technologies is able to make oil out of garbage such as this article 2. when you produce the hydrogen in commercial scales the CO2 is very easy to collect and sell for commercial purposes rather than reacting limestone to get it creating a double whammy on the environment.
I don't feel that the CO2-global warmering thing is good science, but why screw arround when you don't have to, beside limiting the depndency on imported oil would also have political benefits.
A while back Byte magazine had a theme issue about knowlege engineering; the biggest difference that they reported between an expert and a noob, was the expert had a greater ability to recognise what was important to the decisions he had to make and to ignore trivial data.
In the past we used an app that first ran on Xenix, then was later ported to openServer, there are still plenty on microsoft copyrights in the machine, a lot of the scripts in there have copyright notices bigger than the actual code is!
sarcastic humor is a true artform, one mostly mastered by the British. It's rarely appreciatated by us americans primarily due to limited exposure to it; most recently we've seen the sarcastic humor of Anne, the british MC on the tv show "The Leakest Link" (she's now retired from the show). The contestants always seen to they'll enjoy jousting with Anne and quickly discover that she can deal the death of a thousand cuts.
Maybe part of the problem is Americans seem to think a society based on the least common demoninator is fairer than one based on the greatest common denominator.
brilliant piece of software "engineering" is brought to you by Microsoft Why is it that their system folder reminds me of a cesspool? I suppose it's because anybody can dump anykind of shit into it.
My wife bless her soul, was petrified of computer's. After much effort I finaily talked her into use my computer a nice SuSE Linux machine that brought up a KDE enviroment. She was always afraid of "Hurting my stuff" but I convinced her that she had her own sandbox to play in and at worst all she could hurt was her own stuff. Before long she was hooked on the Gimp, make pictures, her own brushes, and a lot of stuff even I hadn't figured out yet. After a while she became envious of her internet friends using specialty programs like incredimail, easy card creator. Eventualy she wanted her own computer and got a Dell running WinXP, the result was like she started taking stupid pills! I had to hold her hand all through a college course on Office 2003. It was easier for me to translate from Linux/OpenOffice to WinXP/Office2003, than it was for her to learn Office2003; and the few programs she wanted that actualy ran in WinXP, died with SP2.
I'm an old fogey, learned FORTRARN 66, RPG II, Basic, COBOL even did them "structured"; but I'm too tainted to really understand OOPs. Seems Windows is to computer usage as structured programming is to OOPs it tends to taint the understanding.
When I see Lack of vendor support,
it always registers in my brain as Vendors who don't want us to know how many CPU cycles their vampyric trash hardware realy sucks out of my machine. When I buy a killer CPU why would I want to waste my money by have it do in software, what I paid for my hardware to do?
I don't understand the mentality that leads people to believe that we need to replace several millions of years of evolution how about for most of that evolution, 21 years old was old, and 31 years old was ancient; would you want to hook up with an 18 year old widow with 5 kids, who has buried two previous husbands?
Here's an other one for up, since humans have evolved with the ability to absorb enough dioxins to kill any other animal and only get a mild skin rash would you want to drink the stuff?
I think we are at the point where a more long-term view of health is appropriate, and we have to get people to realise that any changes can have unanticipated effects in other areas of our health.
I know a guy that hooked up with a bonafide nymphomaniac who would argue that point; the story he told started out tittalating, but ended up sounding pretty gruesome.
drinking a gallon of water in a short space of time is supposed to be very dangerous Oh great now I gotta find a MSDA on distilled water! As most people know,
if enough is good, then too much is better; if too much is bad, then not enough is better!
First time i had my cholesterol checked the dr. looked at me with real envy in her eyes, my chelosterol was only 150, it's genetic, my father's is about 150, my mother's is about 240, thanks Dad. Now I'm one of those people who can eat a whole skin-on chicken, deep fried in dairy butter, and only have my cholesterol go up to 170!
our Gov. Jennifer Granholm (Democrat w/a capital D), elected primarily on the UAW union vote doesn't care about actualy helping kids, just the scocial engineering to help kids. It's much better to propose and sign a law to make spam ilegal than it is for her to instruct the AG to go after one of the nations biggest spammers who live in our state, an action that might actualy have a slight impact on the amount of inappropriate spam our kids actualy recieve.

he's too far out in the boonies to get commercial electricity; what he makes is all he gets!
If Athlons couldn't execute standard -686 opcodes properly, I'd expect Intel would be screaming the news from the roof tops.
The point is that the executable generated by the compiler for -686 w/o any MMX or SSE will execute different sections of machine code based solely on whether it's being executed by a pentium pro or an AMD such as if "Genuine Intel" move double word once, else move byte 4 times.
