Duh.. how many reasonably intelligent people don't have multiple skill sets and wonder if their lives would have better if they had chosen career path B instead of path A.
Its really stupid to expect everyone to be the same even if they are the same. Who's job dosn't get a little boring after 5 years and your on top of the learning curve.
So lets have the clones have the excitement and challenges I had then I'll move on to something I'm passionat about, but will not support me and let the clones support me. We could live life as an tag-team event.
We could even replicate the memory RNA and sync, each entity cauld concentrate on a different area and donate to the rest!
I'm not a fiber guru or anything but as I understand it the biggest difference between an OC1 and an OC678 is the equipment connected on each end so therorecticaly given enough money for the switches I can connect two points with as much bandwidth as the entire internet backbone.
So with that much bandwidth it would just be a matter of leasing bandwith to enough other services, competeing telco's, cable tv, remote meter reading ect.
If they think they can get a revenue stream they'll lease. Imagine three or four utilities co-oping to install infarastructure. How about deciding between 3 POTS line from baby Bell or 3 bidirectional MPEG2 voice/vidio channels, 1 100Mbs ethernet internet connection and "cable TV" for your home? whos going to win when both cost $90.00 per mo.
How with things like.NET work without unbelieveable bandwidth. Java is patheticaly simple or unusable do to lack of bandwidth. I think that when Sun and Microsoft start pushing for bandwith, it'll happen and it'll happen for everyone. Actualy many rural and extreamly remote areas are in better shape than more urban because they were upgraded recently; they got fiber because they had it upgraded and upgraded right.
The stuff that's being developed for the next ten years with demand symmetrical high bandwidth; and any company that stands in the way is going to generate so much "bad karma" that they'll be locked out of the market.
It's like a real life episode of CatDog; Well if Linus can't code on the project, maybe they'll let him help keep the Microsoft people from saying some of the really stupid stuff that keeps everybody at slashdot rolling on the floor!
There are too many distro's anyways, so that's what Libranet should have done; i.e. start with the debian base distro installation, then buy our copyrighted non-GPL enhancements and install on top of the base.
As near as I can tell Red Hat, SuSE, Debian and Slackware are as unique as linux gets; the rest are just enhancements on these basic distro. If you took all of them; installed on different partitions, then piped the find thru diff, you would see how little difference their really is (or isn't).
If more than lip service was paid to the Linux Standards Base; one or more CDs would have the LSB, the rest the unique stuff. Now all of the distros are working their tails off on the same stuff; I thought the idea was to Not re-invent the wheel each time!
It would help developers too; I have been trying to get GnuCash to install for weeks now, sure it works on the developers machine with old developement libraries all over the disk, just try it on a clean installation.
Now if libranet was really different, say versions of the whole thing compiled with full Athalon or Pentium III Optimisation say all of the way down to the libraries and utilities, that would be a whole different critter. Let them download the base for free, just make the pipe real skinny say a 2.9Kb/s per user, then people would buy the distro.

Will this help our dental friends using a cobol program for office management, developed on Xenix and only recently ported to SCO OpenServer? We're using curses to display on terminals over serial lines.
Or how about the supply ordering system that runs on dos. We actualy bought a celeron based system just to run this one app and then found that the program wouldn't run because it had a stupid win-modem installed! Forget about using the ink-jet printer too.
The windows based version wouldn't load because the installer told us we had to up-grade from WindowsME to Windows 95 or better thought seriously about Linux/wine that's better isn't it?
SMT is not going to help anything we use run faster; so why should we spend the money? Why would anyone develope software for this technology? We don't even get Linux distros optimised for our athlons!
This is just blue smoke and mirrors to try to get the techno-junkies to shell-out a bunch of money for a new system that might actualy run their apps ten percent faster for four times the cost.
they're right but when you concider that most of the problems were require to make the hardware work on a 8008 cpu and every thing orthogonal to that it's not surprising.
Let the engineers make a bus with hardware interupts that are sane, not just something hacked to be compatable with an 8 bit interupt scheme.
Let the engineers make a comercialy viable cpu that has its interupt tables starting at low memeory and works it way up instead of down so we can add to the table and memory without software kludges.
Then let the engineers convince everyone to re-invest in all of their hardware and software.
let the engineers convince thier pointy-haired bosses of the wisdom of all the above.
When they've done the above I'll be happy to develope the software and do it right this time only don't try to get it before it's ready; we will not care if the fate of your world depends on getting something running fast, we have our quality control process to go through first!
It seems that they forgot that these machine evolved from a pocket calculator chip. (the intel 4004) I think we're doing pretty good for an over-blown pocket-calculator. Remember God didn't worry about supporting legacy hardware and software.
I'll bet just the thought of this would give Billy of Redmond a woody!
rotation can also be fast enough that the equator portion of a collasped object is outside the event horizon and the polar areas inside; resulting in a visable object that would look like core was removed. This object would radiate matter from the equators like any other object. Also if a massive object were to orbit a black hole the tidal effect from the second object could distort the event horizon enough for matter to physicaly escape.
If you take c and devide by Hubble's constant you get 18.6 billion light years, curiously close to the size of the observed universe which is in the 12 billion light year area.
does anyone know of a Microsoft product that is actualy compliant with published Microsoft standards? Home can GNOME comply if the standards creators can't
If there is one thing I've gained through using GPL'd software it's repect the copyright!
What I want is a Liciense to listen to the Music, I'll only listen to it on one device at a time ect; but what I demand is If I don't get to copy the original media, then I need to be able to obtain reasonably priced replacement media in the event of failure from any cause. When we get this then they will not have the piracy problem from us.
After I've purchased the original media, I feel that the Artists have been compensated and additional copies made by me weather for use as an archive, or for use on incompatable devices, isn't depriving the Artist of their right to compensation for their artistic product; but this will impact the distrbuters who have because addicted to getting full profit from replacement media sales.
In short Distributers may just have to adjust their bussiness plan to survive with out Robber Baron profits, or the Piracy market will put them out of bussiness.
Please don't use LOX, Liquid OXygen, almost anything burn if it gets enough oxygen and heat, If your computer should catch fire, very probaly even the steel case will combust, and burn through the floor, even if the floor is concrete! Metal fire require very specialized and expensive extinguishing equipment and typical Do Not Work Well! Other liquid gasses pose significant aphyxiation hazards; You should have an escape air pack for all personnel in the room where any significant quantity of non-oxidiseing liquid gasses are used.
Nothing is wrong with this, I'll just have to BLOCK the.au domain so my copy of squid doesn't illegaly cache copyrighted material.
We should warn all of our ISP about how they can avoid illegal operation by blocking the Aussie domain!
And we should find out who we should notify in the Aussie gov to let them know the meassures that we are going to have to take to respect their new law.
My web site specificaly allows local cacheing as a fair use; Mainly because I thought only the US Gov could pass something this stupid; Who would have the the Aussie's would have beat us to it!
My Boss said it well, "13X's better than pathetic is still not good enough. This is in responce to MS's infamious "Blue Screen of death" ad.
Microsoft's products are getting more reliable, due to Open Source competion.
I remember seeing credits for Berkely code in Win95, so even Microsoft uses open source code in their products.
What'll happen when MS says because DOD uses so many MS products, that their survival is a matter of National Defense Interests. I wonder if it was an application of Microsoft's that didn't see the japanese fishing trawler?
I was hoping that it was just my local dial-up provider and power problems in CA. Make you wonder what this is going to do to all of the ASP bussiness plans out there.
Haven't been able to get Data Units from SetiAtHome reliably for six weeks now.
Its being done now, to see the KFC restrant in Port Huron MI, US go to http://kfc.bluewater1.com, it works. All you need is someone to manage the DNS server.
What I don't understand is why some small time operators like bluewater1.com can do it so well, add new domains, why can't the top level do it? If I were ICANN for $50K and a percent of registration fees everybody would get one and the market forces would kill off the sickly ones!
None of that stuff will run in 16k main core and 16K Aux core; Core refers to ferrite core memory, the good stuff, non-volatle. And I don't have to cut and paste, just sort and shuffle.
All of you Linux bigots can use the dd command to convert the ebidic to ascii if you have a card reader else just type it in by hand, like I did twentyfive years ago. A GPL release is fine with me. remember this is fortran66, and it will not run under g77 without work. AS IS, NO Warrentees, milage may vary stuff here
every rocket scientist worth his/her salt invents the centripital space drive. The younger he does it the smarter he is. (the centripital force is used to retrieve the reaction mass)
My little brother's version invoice cyclotrons and relativistic mass changes, very original. Robert Goddard was very young when he invented his version. If anyone is interested I have a fortran program that simulates this, it ran ok on an IBM 1130/ IBM 360 OS/ Fortran 66 system I'll send you for a nominal copying fee - hey it takes time to photcopy all of the punch cards
perhaps the real purpose of carnivore isn't to colect evidence for the FBI, but to be so badly written and so buggy, and crash so many networks that the ISP's will do the collection for the FBI.
That way the FBI will have a neutral third party to testify
Use of someone elses resources for storage
and an implied responsibility for the content of user's traffic
They probably are very close to releasing, an improved Carnivore that will seem very tame compaired to the original, everybody will be pacified, and forget about it anyways.

Guess what in Michigan, USA aviation fuel does have road taxes included, as does fuel for agricultural use ect.
My phone line pays more in taxes than anything other costs. Actualy we have it good most of the world pays per minute charges on local telco connection time any. Thats really the limiting factor for internet pentration in most foriegn countries now.
Lets see them run over 2GB of ram reliably on a pentium class machine first. Many have tried all have failed. No one knows if its hardware or software, but it just isn't do-able.
And worst yet it'll still run x86 code! Get a clue if you got the bucks to run an itanium, why criple it with the sins of the past. better post this before the machune crashes!
This is convienant, just as the technology to put atmospheric scrubbers up there long enough to do some good starts to come on-line, the problem isn't a problem anymore. What's next, I suppose that global Warming is cause by termite farts ( big source of methane gas!) so we should get out the CFC propelled DDT spray can?
The truth is that we really can't destroy the enviroment, we can just change it enough to destroy ourselves and most of the enviromental activists will eventualy be shown to be as wrong about things as eveyone else is.
Example the Green-House gasses are Methane, Sulfur Oxides, Water Vapor and lastly Carbon dioxide and the majority of these gasses are released by naturaly processes that we have no control over.
Most Enviromental causes are thinly disguised anti-American, anti-technolgy plots that are almost terrorist organizations,
